CSS - Working Around Online Software . . .
Hi, I am working on an online store for the company that I work for and they have me using online shopping cart software to generate the site. It is nice to have the software handle all the back-end work for me but the process of writing html and css is such a pain that I write my code in DW and cut and paste it into the online software. The software gave me one css page to call my own that is automatically referenced on each page.
Here's my site: http://www.nova-dataonline.com So, with that said, here's my problem. As you can see, the graphics that I have placed in the center of the page overlap the bottom runner of the software-generated page. I have tried to get the main part of the page to expand with whatever content I have placed there since these are not the only images that will go on this page. But since I am not super experienced, I have been stumped. Part of the problem is that I have limited access to my source html and css. This is the css that I wrote to layout the four images that you see: PHP Code: #container{ position:absolute; top:105px; left:185px; width:580px; z-index:0; height: 384px; } #top_left{ background-image: url(images/message/top_left.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; width:374px; height:150px; position:absolute; left:5px; top:25px; display:block; z-index:0; } #top_left_text{ text-align:left; vertical-align:middle; color:#FFFFFF; position:relative; left:0px; top:0px; width:auto; height:auto; padding:10px; z-index:1; } #top_right{ position:absolute; left:384px; top:25px; width:191px; height:150px; z-index:0; } #bottom_left{ position:absolute; left:5px; top:185px; width:191px; height:150px; z-index:0; } #bottom_right{ background-image: url(images/message/bottom_right.jpg); background-repeat: no-repeat; position:absolute; right:5px; top:185px; width:374px; height:150px; z-index:0; } #bottom_right_text{ text-align:left; vertical-align:middle; color:#FFFFFF; position:relative; left:0px; top:0px; width:auto; height:auto; padding:10px; z-index:0; } .header{ color:#FFFFFF; font-size:medium; } and here's the markup: PHP Code: <div id="container"> <div id="top_left"> <div id="top_left_text"> <span class="header">Linksys 54Mbps Wireless Router</span><br /><br />Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products. Since both standards are built in, you can migrate to the new screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. </div> </div> <div id="top_right"><img src="images/message/linksys_WRT54G.jpg" alt="Linksys WRT54" width="189" height="150"></div> <div id="bottom_left"><img src="images/message/netgear_WG311.jpg" alt="Netgear WG311" width="189" height="150"></div> <div id="bottom_right"> <div id="bottom_right_text"> <span class="header">Netgear 54Mbps Wireless PCI Adapter</span><br /><br />At 54 Mbps, this wireless 2.4 GHz 802.11b/g PCI card is much faster than existing 11 Mbps wireless networks and will supercharge the delivery of media-rich content to your desktop PC as never before. It easily handles huge digital video and MP3 files, firing them through your network at blazing speeds. </div> </div> </div> I am rather lost and would like to find a way to make this work. The kicker is that I cannot edit the main stylesheet for the page! Any help would be awesome! Similar TutorialsWhat software do you use for css? Is there an official site for css software, I tried looking for one, but all of them are tutorials For a project I'm currently doing I'd like a set of quick reference sheets that I can print out of all the Selectors I have created in the various style sheets the site uses. I'd like to know if there is any program out there that can do this automatically for me, I really like the way TopStyle does it -- see attached image -- but there is no way to print this easily (other than doing a screenshot and making it fit on A4 in photoshop). I know I could do it by hand as I go but it would be sooooo much easier if there was something to do it automatically for me. Any help is greatly appreciated. -D Hello, hope to ask in the right place. I just created a website locally in CSS and it works fine when I open it locally (i.e., from my harddrive) in either Firefox or IE. But when I upload the HTML, images, and CSS to my webserver, the formatting breaks rather badly. I've checked that the files are exactly the same, so I do really don't know what the problem is. Here is the disfunctional online version: http://www.forma3.com/fs/jmf/index_v0.1.html And what it looks like locally: http://www.forma3.com/fs/jmf/local.png i have been trying my hand at css recently and done this page with some css in it but some how it does not seem to be working.my main problem is the fact the two divs one holding the navigation table and the other holding the texttable are not able to use the css properties in terms of font size and font alignment.i looks like that i have made some serious or stupid error here.i would appreciate any help with this.thanks.the code of the page is given below. <html> <head> <title> WORKING CSS WITH DIVS.................. </title> </head> <style type="text/css"> div.banner { POSITION:ABSOLUTE; TOP:0; LEFT:0;RIGHT:0; WIDTH:750; HEIGHT:100; OVERFLOW:AUTO; BORDER-LEFT: 5PX SOLID #454545; BORDER-TOP: 5PX SOLID #454545; BORDER-BOTTOM:5PX SOLID #454545; BORDER-RIGHT: 5PX SOLID #454545; FONT-FAMILY:ARIAL; FONT-SIZE:48PX; TEXT-ALIGN:LEFT;COLOR:WHITE; BACKGROUND-COLOR:BLACK; } div.navigationtable { FONT-FAMILY:TAHOMA; FONT-SIZE:10PX;TEXT-ALIGN:LEFT; } div.navigationtable { POSITION:ABSOLUTE; TOP:150; LEFT:10; WIDTH:150; HEIGHT:200; } div.texttable { FONT-FAMILY:BOOK ANTIQUA; FONT-SIZE:10PX; TEXT-ALIGN:JUSTIFY; } div.texttable { POSITION:ABSOLUTE; TOP:150; LEFT:190; WIDTH:560; } </style> <body bgcolor="#ffffff"> <div class="banner"> Hello.com </div> <div class="navigationtable"> <table border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=150> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.yahoo.com">Yahoo</a></td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.rediff.com">Rediff</a></td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.bbc.co.uk">BBC</a></td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.ebay.com">EBay</a></td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.w3schools.com">W3Schools</a> </td> </tr> <tr> <td><a href="http://www.cricket.org">Cricket</a></td> </tr> </table> </div> <div class="texttable"> <table border=1 cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 width=560> <tr> <td> Viswanathan Anand kept himself in the race for the title by keeping the gap between him and leader Veselin Topalov to just half a point with one more round to go in the Category 20 M-Tel Masters chess tournament at Hotel Grand Sofia. In the last game to finish in the ninth round, Anand squeezed out a fine win in the endgame against a tired looking Michael Adams, who at various stages had even seemed slightly better with white, but it was Anand who seized the chances he got. Anand's win carried him to five points from nine rounds, and a clear second position and Topalov is half a point ahead at 5.5 points. In the final round, Anand will have white pieces against Judit Polgar, who drew her ninth round game against an off- colour Vladimir Kramnik. If Topalov and Anand end up with same points, they will have to have a play-off in rapid, where Anand will have a definite advantage. But for that situation to happen Anand must win against Polgar and hope Topalov does no better than a draw. Example: style for td is working but not for ul or li. Syntex is correct, cause I pulled the styles from another one of my sites. Is there something that can cause a partial reading of my main.css file? Why does this css style work only in firefox and not IE : Code: .showhide {font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Geneva, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: 12px;color: #EA6D67;cursor: pointer; onMouseOver:text-decoration: underline;} Everything in the style works apart from the last section: {onMouseOver:text-decoration: underline;} Any ideas? Cheers Hey, it's me again, I was wondering if there is a way to make any header tag (in my case, it's H3) so that the text appears as normal? Essentially, make it so that nothing changes with the text. eg- 'Hello <H3>everybody</H3>' would appear just the same as 'Hello everybody.' I've tried multiple things using CSS, but can't seem to make it work. style.css body { font-size: 80%; font-family: 'Lucida Grande', Verdana, Arial, Sans-Serif; } ul#tabs { list-style: none; margin: 30px 0 0 0; padding: 0 0 0.3em 0; } ul#tabs li { display: inline; } ul#tabs li a { color: #42454a; background-color: #dedbde; border: 1px solid #c9c3ba; border-bottom: none; padding: 0.3em; text-decoration: none; } ul#tabs li a:hover { background-color: #f1f0ee; } ul#tabs li a.selected { color: #000; background-color: #f1f0ee; font-weight: bold; padding: 0.7em 0.3em 0.38em 0.3em; } div.tabContent { border: 1px solid #c9c3ba; padding: 0.5em; background-color: #f1f0ee; } div.tabContent.hide { display: none; } ---------------------------------------------- <html> <head><title>tab2</title> <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen"> </head> <body> <ul id="tabs"> <li><a href="#about">About JavaScript tabs</a></li> <li><a href="#advantages">Advantages of tabs</a></li> <li><a href="#usage">Using tabs</a></li> </ul> </body> </htlm> i haven't created any div tag but it should at list work on the ul tag. whats wrong???? Ok, I have a design and it works how I want it to in firefox. http://www.eng.nene.ac.uk/~bf04thbu/ However, In IE there are two problems. 1. The graphical border doesnt go all the way around the content area. View it in firefox to see how it's supposed to look. 2. There is a small gap between the first #maintable and #maintable2. Does anyone know how to fix these? I've been trying for a while without success. It appears that the #maintable2 div is on top of the two side images in #maintable2. Thanks for any help. Hello, Simple page trying to get the black line to be at the very top of the page. It works in all browsers (for me) except IE. http://www.gypsydev.us/css/ Any idea what else I need to do? Thanks, GuruGeek Code: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>Title</title> <STYLE TYPE="text/css"> a:link { color: #808080; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; text-decoration:underline; } a:hover { color: #A0A0A0; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; text-decoration:none; } a:active { color: #000000; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; text-decoration:underline; } a:visited { color: #808080; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; text-decoration:underline; } version { color: #939393; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-decoration:none; font-size:11px; } pagetitle { color: #969696; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; text-decoration:none; font-size:16px; text-transform:capitalize font-weight:700 } </STYLE> </head> Any help is welcome, I am not well versed in CSS. Well, not this CSS. None of the properties are workign in IE. it is frustrating. Code: .mainnav a:link, .mainnav a:visited { font-family: tahoma; color: #9b9999; font-size: 15px; line-height: 37px; font-weight: bold; margin: 2px 0 0 0px; text-decoration: none; } .mainnav a:hover, .mainnav a:visited:hover { font-family: tahoma; color: brown; font-size: 15px; line-height: 37px; font-weight: bold; margin: 2px 0 0 0px; text-decoration: none; } i wrote them for the mainnav class tags but the links arent effected? i'm using IE7 and targeting the IE7 users with those codes... What's wrong? I checked there is no duplicated implementation... Hi all for some reason my css just won't work: http://www.milztech.net/area51/ Css: Code: body { font-family: verdana, geneva; font-size: 52px; background-color: #CCCCCC; } Any ideas?? Hello, I have an odd problem. I do some websites as a hobbie so I'm no expert. I have created several sites using css with a linked stylesheet and never had a problem using: link rel="stylesheet" href="styles.css" type="text/css" Today I opened Homesite (old version 4.5) for the first time in a few months and began a new project. My problem is, I can't seem to get the stylesheet to work when linked. If I use it inline or in the head tag it works, just not linked. I'm using the same code I have always used. I even copied from other working pages to be sure I'm not missing something. I have also opened several other existing projects stored locally and they work fine. Just nothing I code now will work. I must be overlooking something simple. Thanks for any ideas! |
