CSS - Css/positioning/source Code/search Engines
Ok, so I have been reading that it is best to place text as far up in the source code as possible for search engines. That being said, is it feasible to write code that uses DIVS extensively, and by doing so, place a div for the very top of a web page at the bottom of the source code, and a div for body text at the very beginning of the source code? I hope this makes sense...
Similar TutorialsHi everyone I was thinking about making a navigation which when an element was clicked on it would show (display:block) subsections of that element which would then be the end links. Until a navigation section was clicked on its relavent block would be set to display:none. My question is does / will google and others have a problem with this or would they be able to understand a link which would be like the following: <a href="#" onClick="idofelement.style.display=block"> and then would they be able to follow the regular links which this link creates. Thank you for your help. I am trying to do this: PHP Code: <div ID="greenpaid" style="position: absolute; font-size: 12px; left: 803px; top: 160px; background-color: #339933; margin: 0px; padding: 5px; color: #fff; visibility: hidden"><b>PAID</b></div> <div ID="redunpaid" style="position: absolute; font-size: 12px; left: 803px; top: 160px; background-color: #cc0000; margin: 0px; padding: 5px; color: #fff; visibility: hidden"><b>UNPAID</b></div> Both divs are set visibility: hidden and a javascript then makes one visible depending on a value from a database. Further down the page I have a check box which toggles between these 2 divs, making one visible and the other hidden, and vice-versa. Now, when I view this page on my computer it looks fine (in both IE 6.0 and Firefox), but when a client looks at the page in IE 6.0 she says the javascript toggling all works fine but the divs are on the top left of site page, overlapping some other text on the web page. Have I written any CSS incorrectly in either of those divs that might cause this? Any idea how I might make this work. I mean, I've heard of bugs in various browsers and browser versions, but in the same browser on different computers (both PC's)? That's hard to work around. Hello, I've almost got this css image gallery done for my website, but I can't seem to get the main image to be positioned where the gallery thumbnails are. The main image seems to be only position-able from the top of the page. I'm trying to get the image to line up with the top of the first thumbnail image, the thumbnails being arranged in a column to the left of the main image. The page where you can view this is: WWW OLDFOUNDRY DOT COM - I'm a new user, and am not allowed to post links yet. You'll see the gallery in the new product called "Bugatti Test" That link is on the left hand side of the page. Echo I have the need to have the footer at the top of the source code (as near as possible), but display at the bottom of the content as one would expect for a footer. I don't want it 'fixed' at the bottom of the page, I want it to flow and scroll -- just be the last part of content that displays. May sound like a stupid request but it is for SEM/SOC. What am I missing? There has to be a simple float solution to solve this? I have easily been able to have an element at the bottom of the source float to the top, but not the reverse. Unfortunately there are some icons built in the css that are rather ugly to look at. Would any one of you know how to hide them? thank you and regards, schnauzer Hi, Can you please let me know the meaning of "mso-height-source: userset" in the css styles? I have searched in the google but I couldn't find it. Thanks, Sridhar. anyway to disable a user from viewing your css source? not particular for me but, i think there might be a way with php in the css file, but it still displays the code when i go to the file Error: Material "debug/debuglightmap" uses unknown shader "LightmappedGeneric_dx8"Warning: using WorldTwoTextureBlend on a non-displacement surface.Support for this will go away soon. - Material : de_dust/groundsand_blend - Surface center : -912 64 -16Warning: using WorldTwoTextureBlend on a non-displacement surface (material: de_dust/groundsand_blend). Support for this will go away soon. (THESE ARE THE REASONS WHY MY CSS IS SCREWING UP REALLY BAD) any help please i have no idea what this means Hi ... I'm new here. I hope someone can help me. I've taken a Dreamweaver CS3 3-column template and added a fourth column. Everything looks okay until I move the "main content" column above columns 2 and 3 in the source code (so that it will load before them, because they have external content). Then I get float drop with columns 2 and 3. Since I'm a new user, I'm not allowed to post URLs, but I think if you go to my profile you can see my home page address. Then just add the following paths: Page without float drop (before changing column order) /new/index.html Page with float drop (after changing column order) /new/about.html I tested this on the basic DW template that I started with, and it has the same problem. I ran my page through the CSS validator with only two errors that I can't figure out. However, I get 75 errors when I use the XHTML validator, and I think I'll have a nervous breakdown if I have to try to fix all that. I know it's probably something to do with margins or floats, but I've tried everything I can think of and I'm at wit's end. Thanks in advance. On a CSS tutorial page, I saw an element for an "include-source" command that you can put into your style sheet. It's something like: include-source: url("test.html"); My understanding from that site was that you can put this into your style sheet. Therefore, you can have another page's contents (in my case, only text) display. In other words, whatever I had in the test.html file would display in the <div> tag on the index page where I had called it. It's not working, so what am I missing? I'm using PHP; would that be easier? What I'm trying to do is have a standard layout for all of my pages using css. Instead of having to go into each page and edit it, I'd rather have it in files that I can get into and not search through all of the PHP, HTML, CSS code. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks. Tim thanks for taking the time to read my question. I have a div that I want to float right, but it is staying on the left side, and I can't figure out why. I've created a site with a static background.gif "body" element, then a container (div) where I'm putting my stuff. I want the container to roll up and down against the nice static background in the body margins.(there is an example of what I'm trying to do at CSS garden http://www.csszengarden.com - check out Gothica #027)The problem is that when I use absolute positioning for the elements - the container ignores the content and doesn't size properly. But when I use relative positioning, I can make everything work out OK - except it generates tons of extra space that gets dumped at the bottom of the pages. So my question is - does anyone know how to get rid of the space? BTIA ok Hi, I can't figure out why my top nav won't stay in place in ie. Here's what I have for my nav. Works everywhere but ie, its position (just the height) it's off. Thanks much for any help. Simone div.navigation { position: relative; left:160px; top: 140px; line-height:0; border : 0 solid #000000; overflow : auto; width : 50%; font-size : 20px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0px 0 0 0px; } div.left { width : 45%; float : left; } div.right { width : 30%; float : right; } a.navigation { border-bottom : 5px solid #99c37f; text-decoration : none; color : #4c2110; font-size: 20px; } a.navigation:hover { border-bottom : 5px solid #99c37f; text-decoration : none; color : #4c2110; font-size: 20px; } I'm trying to create a new site based upon a semantic layout. However, I'm running into two problems that I cannot overcome: First, I want my footer div to be below the content div. However, the content div is postion:absolute; ad I can't get the footer to display below it. I've tried position:relative; for the footer and a hunder other things which would not work. If someone could guide me, I'd appreciate it. Second, my content div is going under my ads div, so that a large portion of the content is obscured. How can I correct this? I've tried margins and padding, but they did not work. You can see the layout he http://what-is-what.com Thank you in advance for your assistance. hi! how to make footer similar to header? e. g. i need it to look as it's in .main class. http://fti.com.ua/lng/ thanx! I have inputted some css popup text on roll over for some social bookmarking buttons on a new blog skin. (pkevan.blogspot) The problem I am having is placing where they pop-up. I can't use an absolute position because who knows where a post will be along with multiple posts. Right now there floating underneath the icons at the left hand side. I want the text to appear to the right of the icons inline with them. I'm having trouble positioning them there though. Any help, or properties that might be useful will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Heres what I have applied so far. div#socialbookmarks a span {display: none; } div#socialbookmarks a:hover span {display: block; float: left; position: inline; top: 0px; left: 0px; width: 20px; padding: 0px; margin: 0px; z-index: 0; color: #4AAAFA; background: transparent; } G'day all, I am hoping some here can help me with a problem I am having with positioning. I have a content div with dynamically generated text, next I have a side-bar div that i'd ideally like to centre vertically but this seems to be bad practice so my other thought, if possible would be to have the side-bar position itself relative, x position from top with the dynamic text to wrap around the side-bar div. What I have currently is: Code: <div id="main-content"> <div class="side-bar"> <div class="side-bar_header">Content Header</div> <div class="side-bar_content"> <ul> <li>Side-bar info</li> </ul></div> </div> {dynamic_content_tag} </div> Code: #main-content { height: auto; width: 630px; } .side-bar { background-color: #CCC; float: left; width: 180px; position: relative; top: 50%; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 20px; } .side-bar_header { background-color: #666; text-align: center; padding: 5px; } .side-bar_content { padding-left: 5px; } Any help would be much appreciated. Hi all, hoping someone can help me with what feels like it should be a simple problem, but one I can't work out. Apologies if the problem seems too obvious to you, I'm a total noob at this. I basically have two div objects within a space beneath the header. These are a video player, which is fine, and a scrolling menu. Presently the menu (navigation.php) is off the bottom-right, beneath the video, and I simply want to force it to the TOP right, parallel with the player. My code is below, and I'm looking for an elegant css solution if possible. Any more info needed, just ask. I took a grab, but the forum won't let me post links. Cheers in advance. </style> </head> <body bgcolor="#B94F1F"> <div id="container"> <div id="header"><?php include("header.php"); ?></div> <div id="wrapper"> <p id='preview'>The player will show in this paragraph</p> Words here? <p>Paragraph <p>Paragraph <script type='text/javascript' src='swfobject.js'></script> <script type='text/javascript'> var s1 = new SWFObject('player.swf','player','640','380','9'); s1.addParam('allowfullscreen','true'); s1.addParam('allowscriptaccess','always'); s1.addParam('flashvars','file=xxx'); s1.write('preview'); </script> <div id="navigation" style="width:300px;height:430px;overflow:auto;border-width:1px;border-color:000000;border-style:solid;"> <font size=2> <div id="header"><?php include("navigation.php"); ?></div> </font></div> |
