HTML - Html Help Different Browsers, Different Results.
I took an HTML class which covered the basics and some CSS and Javascript. I got a few questions about some problems I'm having with a website of mine.
Site: www.lugify.com 1) I'm using: #main { position: absolute; } to Position my logo at the top, and the other box with the comment area in it. Now when I view this on different browsers and computers it comes out distorted. What my best bet of positioning to simple areas like my website would contain. (the logo and the blue rectangle below it). 2) We never covered sending form information to a .ASP page? I think its something like that. I want to be able to get the form information that people enter into the form, sent to another page that can be viewed by anyone who goes to it. (Kinda like a blog format, so each form posts is printed neatly by time). But I want them to be redirected to a page that simply says "Thanks for ordering blah blah". This way my employee can go to the other page and view the orders. Thanks for any help received! Anthony Similar TutorialsI'm a designer with a working but by no means expert familiarity with html and css. My products are bundles that include photo slideshows, video and audio clips, text and links to pdf and tif files. They are distributed on dvds and thumb drives. I've been using Flash to assemble them. I understand that Flash is on the way out, at least insofar as HTML 5 is already able to do the many of the same things without the need of a proprietary browser add-in. I understand it is already capable of doing everything I currently do with Flash. My question: which if any of the current browsers are capable of performing all of these functions? I currently bundle Flash Player with my products, but I'd much rather bundle a browser. Thanks in advance, P Hello, I tried searching on the internet for my question, but strangely have yet to find anything. Hopefully something will turn up soon - but here is my question in the meantime: I have a webpage that has a flash sequence that you must click on to take you to the rest of the site. But for browsers that don't have flash (like phones), I want that flash sequence to be replaced by some html code - like an image that you can click to take you to the site. I feel like that's a pretty basic question - so if you know the answer, I would really appriciate your help! Thanks!! I have created a custom html dropdown menu for my site. The thing is it looks perfect in Firefox 5.0 (for me it does anyway) and works just as expected but in other browsers such as Opera 10.60, Chrome 5.0.375.125, it doesn't work properly. and it works semi ok in IE 8. For example if I hover over one of the menu buttons in opera or chrome there is meant to be a drop down box, this doesn't show in Opera or chrome but does in IE? You can view the menu on my test site - http://www.themidwiferysanctuary.com/testsite/ There is more to the menu, you can use the following log in - Username: Jade Password 130489 Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get the dropdown compatiable with all (or most) browsers? I would post the code but it won't let me even when using the code tags.......... If you want to see the javascript code then please just let me know. Im not sure any of the above makes sense?? Thank you, Jade Hello there, My index page validates completely since I tidied it up using html tidy, but when i run it through browsershots it is still completely broken in firefox, opera, etc. basically anything other than MSIE it displays incorrectly. If anyone could shed any potential light on the situation it would be greatly appreciated. As you can no doubt tell, I'm no expert on creating web pages using html and css and if a page validates but still doesn't work I can't even begin to try and work out what is going on I did run my css through a validator and it came up with 30 or so instances of the same error, I hadn't ended a dimension value with px, i had just left the number, could this be the culprit? I have since corrected my style sheet so that it validates completely but I cannot upload from my FTP on the PC i'm currently using to see if it affects the browsershots results. I just wanted to put it out there and see what the ideas were of people who know a lot more about website building than I do. Bottom line: if i have an html page and a css page that validate 100% using the w3c standard is it guaranteed to work in all browsers, or are there quirky little things I need to be aware of when wanting my site to display correctly in less popular browsers such as safari etc.? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. :-) Sincere thanks in advance, Alex Browser screenshots - http://browsershots.org/http://www.alexhaines.co.uk/ HTML Validity results - http://validator.w3.org/check?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alexhaines.co.uk%2Findex.html&charset=%28detect+automatically%29&doctype= Inline&group=0 CSS Validity results - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alexhaines.co.uk%2Fstyle.css&profile=css21&usermedium=all&warning=1&l ang=en My site - http://www.alexhaines.co.uk Hi folks! I'm learning HTML so that I can eventually design my own website. While I'm creating code, is there software out there, or some way to view the results of my HTML without having to upload it to my host first? Thanks! Hi, I have a jsp page, in which i have a search button. When i click on the search button, it should display the results in a table format in the same jsp page. I am unable to find a solutuion for this. If Anybody knows, please help me. Thanks in Advance Regards Venu I am trying to create a form where I can check boxes of skills to return results of how many "departments" i have checked have those skills. It would look something like this: Check box - Description of skill1 Check box - Description of skill2 Check box - Description of skill3 SUBMIT BUTTON Department | Skill1 | Skill 2 | Skill 3 | Total -------------------------------------------------- ABC________1_______1______0____2 XYZ ________1_______1______0____2 So I need a code where I can check the boxes that apply, hit the submit button and have a value box display in each department instance if there was a match of not (1 = match 0 = no) So if i checked box skill 1 and skill 2 there would return a 1 under skill 1 and 2 for each department and show the tally of that under the total. Can someone help? thanks! Hey everyone, I am attaching a picture of something happening to a friends website. Is there any way to fix this? I slice a 1 pixel image of the right side of the image to set as my background (repeat x). So I also set the top margin of the whole layout to 0 pixels. But it seems different browsers have a difference view of what 0 pixels is. Does anyone no away arround this? What would the script be to check which browser you are using. Can someone please help me with this. www.pricedrightcleaningequipment.com thanks so much I just read a link from a web mag, and found a pretty smart service: 1. Go to http://browsershots.org/ 2. Select the OS/Browsers you want to check against 3. Select the "user" options 4. Submit your site 5. Get a set of images for each browser to see what it looks like Pretty cool, huh? Now you don't have to install every browser known to man First I want to thank you for letting me be a part of this great forum. Now about the problem. My site looks good on IE browser but with firefox it looks strange, if you look at http://www.akuttpost.no/psykoseschizofreni.htm you may notice that the menu is lower than the middle page. How do I fix this? Is there a way to adjust this so that what looks on IE will be the same with all sorts of browsers? I use dreamweaver and claris 3.0 I have this login on a website i'm doing, in Firefox, Opera & Safari the two text fields and the login button are aligned to the very left of the page but in IE the text boxes only stay about 15px further to the right. This means they are out of line with other elements on the page Can anyone tell from this code below what i'm doing wrong or do you need more code to go on. <form name=login> <table width=200 border=0 align="left" cellpadding=3> <td><input type=text name=username></td></tr> <td><input type=text name=password></td></tr> <tr><td colspan=2 align=left><input type=button value="Login!" onClick="Login()"></td></tr> </table> </form> cheers I am having some problems. I am redesigning a site and It looks good in firefox, but when viewed in IE the spacing is off. I like the way it is looking in firefox, but not in IE. Any ideas?? http:// www .integratedpeaksolutions.com/New/Site/ Hello Everyone, I am new to web design and i designed a website which is good with all browsers except the new Internet explorer 7. Can anyone advise me on what do to so that it will be compatible with the explorer 7. What happened is " The menu of my web pages should be showing only when you click it but because it is not compatible with the new explorer, it open up and display all hidden menu. Can you help pls. Mainly IE. I've created my first site using HTML and it displays fine for now using Firefox, Chrome and Safari, however I can't get it right with IE. I'm testing it with IE8. I've done a ton of googling and have tried Transitional and Strict doctypes, but regardless I can't seem to get my page to look the same in all the browsers. I've done the site in Transitional but when I open it in IE a few graphics are out of place. So I then tried changing the doctype to strict and the graphics matched the out-of-placeness in IE with the other browsers, but then something else in IE gets messed up that isn't in the others. So basically, whether I use strict or transitional I can't get all the browsers to work. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
