HTML - Uploading Swf Files To Host

Hi all,

Please excuse all of my ignorance. I am teaching myself (and being taught by nice people like yourselves) on html and website building. Mods, I was unsure as to where to put this and apologize if I am in the wrong section.

This will be a semi long post as I have lots of questions for all of you. I will organize it into sections in hopes to get a more detailed response.

The Background
I have experience with basic html and have (until now) only used free web servers with web site building tools and just used html for templates and buttons etc. I run my own fish/aquarium supply business and wanted my own .com name instead of a sub-domain. So my better half bought me a a domain and basic hosting package from godaddy.com

-I am running OS X on a powerbook via safari and firefox.

-My host is at godaddy.com

-I am confused and in need of help.

The Problem
Well, so far for me being "good" with websites what a joke that was. Without a web site editor software like the free sub-domains come with I am lost. I understand a html editor would be the best and easiest way to make pages for my site?

-My main problem is I cannot get html documents onto my website. I understand I should be using FTP? I have tried with no success, I am unsure as to which folder to even move the page to, I dont even know which one is my home page *Blushes*

-I am very new to FTP and would like some advice for the best way to transfer HTML to a site.

-I also dont know how to name the page i.e.: mypage.com/AboutUs.html
(How do call the page "about us")

-I have tried looking around on go daddy for some answers and havent found much info besides it telling me to use FTP to upload files. I must not have done it right because i am still getting the "oops this site isnt up yet" message.

If you couldnt tell I need a lot of help. I really just need to know how to get my first few pages up and running....I just dont know how to get the files from where they are on my computer to my site, since the package I have doesnt have a website builder/software. If your willing to educate me, Im willing to learn. All help is appreciated and feel free to laugh at my ignorance. Im doing my best.

My requirement is to write a piece of HTML code that will give me the server name / host name of that particular environment. I am trying to pass on the server name to another application which will run in different environments. Any idea will be appreciated.

Hello, I am trying to hose just a single splash page with a background image, a logo & a couple of links.

I only need this free/cheap hosting for 1-2 months.

Any ideas who would work for this?

I'd prefer free.

There may be a lot of traffic at some point to the splash page, but the only thing they will be able to do from that page is email or go to the myspace page.

So I dont think I need a lot of disc space, but not sure how the bandwidth will be used since there techincally isnt anything there but a logo and a couple of links?

No nudity will be on this particular splash page, so I assume I can host the file(s) any where.

I am trying to get some information out of an html string and I am not getting any luck and preg_matching is a little new to me.

I have plain HTML on the main page and <iFrame> tag on it, inside tag i have URL to other page that using some script that forces host page to reload and show page from frame instead of it.

Can i somehow stop it from messing my entire main page?

I wasn't exactly sure which category to post this question in, but I am having problems uploading a completed website. All of the files have been uploaded to the "www" folder on the server. When I type in the web address on the computer I upload from it appears to be live and working. When I try to view the site on a second computer I get a "server not found" error. Is there something I am doing incorrectly?

I'm just about to upload my website and was wondering how it works. I'm going to be using filezilla. What i'm not sure about is how do I define what page shows up as my home page. Do I need to put the web address inside the HTML code, or name the file before uploading.

I was also unsure about what I need to write at the top of my HTML pages, I;ve copied and pasted an example form a webpage I have open at the moment:

I m facing a serious problem in uploading my sites page. the problem is, whenever i upload a page that page show an error in uploading that file and the is " cannot put index.shtml. Access Denied. The file may not exist, or there could be a permission problem. ". i tried many times to re upload it but it didn't worked. I also tried to do it from file manager in cpanel but its also not working. i don't know what to do... please help me.....

I want to make an image upload like the one in facebook that you can choose multiple images to upload and it also shows the directories. I'm not sure what it's called and how to do it. Hopefully someone can help me

I want to upload the contains of the text file on jsp or html page . I can able to do it on desktop application using File handling function in java but not getting how to do it to upload the contains of text file on html page . And the contains of the text file is getting updated at every hour which also need to be reflected on the page . I want that all the contains get visibled on html page as it is in text file , without changing format

Hello everyone. I'm new to HTML and experimenting...
I have a domain www.thomgreg.com linux hosted by godaddy.
I've started going thru "Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML"
and am in chapter 2. On my local computer the pages displayed fine
but after uploading to the server the text displays but the images
do not. I have all the images and html files in the same directory,
a directory called "html" directly off of root.
the img src element I'm using is: <img src="drinks.jpg">
and, again, drinks.jpg and index.html are in the same directory.
The home page displays without the image though...!!
Also if I try to show the drinks.jpg directly by using
www.thomgreg.com/html/drinks.jpg I get a page cannot be found error.

Any ideas...? Thanks...!

Is there somewhere I can upload code so that it can be seen by forum members? Im trying to fix my layout for ebay and I don't really have anywhere else I can put it besides posting all the code here.

Hey everyone, I'm the owner of a small business who had a website made recently. Unfortunately, I felt the style of the designer wasn't what I was looking for so we parted ways. So, basically I am left with a mostly done website, including code for a sliding bar of pictures (sorry for the non-technical phrases) for the online shop section of the site.

My problem is I don't know how to upload pictures to the bar! Right now all it has is a "coming soon" picture. Can anyone help? URL is:

hi! Firstly I would like to state my first impression about this site. Judging the activity of members by the amount of posts I can see that this is the best place to discuss anything website-related. So I hope I enjoy my time here

Now, onto my question. I have all my files stored on my computer (.htm + graphics + other junk), and have already purchased a domain. I was wondering how to upload these files onto my site, and get my site going. I understand that I need to purchase a hosting service. I tried that, and didn't understand what to do. I uploaded all my files with the uploader provided, including the index.htm files, and nothing happened. I was then sent to filezilla - some kind of FTP someting (I don't even know what FTP is), and I had no idea what to do with that software.

help please?
