HTML - Intermittent Problem Loading Webpage
I have just built a web page this week in HTML using Kompozer, and we thought everything was fine, until I got an e-mail from a friend that the page wasn't displaying. The short story is that it seems that the page (www.cpromptcomputers.net) does not always load for people - it gives a 403 error. The strange thing is that it comes and goes - it is not always consistent.
I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with my friend who is hostiing it for me this afternoon, and he is as mystified as I am. He has been hosting his own web server for several years, and is certainly not a novice at this, but he can't find the problem. Here's what is happening: 1. It does not seem to be browser specific. This evening 4 different people have messaged me after testing - two on Firefox, two on IE - one of the firefox users and 1 of the IE users loaded successfully, and the others did not. Furthermore, this afternoon my friend downloaded and installed Opera 11 on his laptop and it would not load the page, and I downloaded and installed Opera 11 on my machine and it DID load the page. 2. If a user types www.cpromptcomputers.net/index.shtml, it seems to load every time. It's only when you don't put the index.shtml at the end that problems sometimes come up. 3. Testing on my Android phone, I found that some browsers work and some don't. However, if I have a browser pointing to the page that gives the 403 error, and then turn ON my wi-fi so I'm using my local network instead of Verizon, and then refresh the page it loads fine. If I then turn OFF the wi-fi, so I'm back to Verizon, and refresh the page it often does not load again. 4. This evening at another friend's house, who uses a different ISP than I do at home, I checked both IE and Firefox and neither of them loaded the page. 20 minutes later, both of them loaded it fine. 5. We tried creating a default.html file that re-directs to the index.shtml file, and it worked fine for me, but not my friend who is hosting the web site. 6. My friend temporarily took out the include files in my index page but it did not resolve the problem. 7. This evening, my friend called me at it was working for him again. He had made not changes on the web server. As you can guess, this is driving us crazy because it does not seem to have any consistent pattern. If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate them. By the way - the web server he is running is the latest software from Microsoft. Thanks! Similar TutorialsHi, I've got a problem with a pre-existing webpage not operating correctly with Internet Explorer. The website is in development to be replaced, but until then I'm stuck keeping it updated and working. Normally I use Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox for browsing, and didn't notice until today that the page doesn't load correctly with Internet Explorer. The website's basic structure is the header/navigation bar across the top, a left column navigation bar, and then the main/body column on the right. Website: www.hfhsouthcentral.net Issues in Internet Explorer (most likely all related): The site's homepage doesn't load correctly from the base url The links don't operate correctly-instead of opening in the current tab, they either open in a new window or new tab depending on browser default settings The "Home" link simply opens the main body frame for the site home page, as opposed to the complete home page I've tested and verified that the page works incorrectly with IE on different PCs, and displays correctly with other browsers on both PCs and a Mac. The links do work in the primary header/navigation frame as intended with other browsers, but visitors using Internet Explorer receive simply the header/navigation bar when going to the default site. Other things I've attempted to do to fix the issue Using IE's compatibility mode Lowering the security setting Making sure active X was allowed Running IE without any add-ons running Turning off my anti-virus, firewall... I've also flushed the cache and have been testing each change by reloading in IE9 (shift-F5) to verify the problem was still present, and tried running the index.htm file through validator and fixing what it returns as errors (having tested / fixed all of the errors that it returned failed to solve the issue). Tested OSes Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Windows 7 Professional x86 Mac OS X 10.6.3 32-bit Website works with: Google Chrome (12.0.742.122 on Win7 x86 & x64, and OS X) Google Chrome (13.0.782.107 beta-m on Win7 x64) Mozilla Firefox (5.0) (32-bit on Win7 x86, x64) Mozilla Firefox (3.6.18 on OS X) Opera (11.50) (32-bit on Win 7 x64) Safari (4.0.4) (32-bit on OS X) Seamonkey (2.2 on Win 7 x64) Maxthon 3 (3.1.3.2000 Final on Win 7 x64) edit: Seamonkey and Maxthon verified working, though really don't care about supporting them... People must register for this event. For some reason, when we click on submit during the trial run, we're sent to a "problem loading" page. It's supposed to go to a confirmation page so people can pay via paypal. I've compared the form code against the club registration page and another event registration page and everything looks the same. Where is our mistake? I can't find it. Here is the URL: http://www.houstonparrotheadclub.com...gistration.htm Thanks Hey, I've just recently up-loaded a new site i have put together, and i'm having a wierd problem with some of the images on the site. Whats happening is that when i view my site, some of the images don't appear, i just get the right hand corner red cross box. And a friend of mine who viewed the site had exactly the same problems, with exactly the same images. But two other people who viewed the site had no problems with any of the images not showing! The other wierd thing, is that i will have an image which works on one page, but then won't work on another page, even though it's exactly the same image file. This is only the case for one image which i'm aware of, all the other images which aren't working are consitant throughout all pages. I have contacted my hosting company and they have mentioned it's most likely something to do with my site coding. I don't understand what i could have done to have made this happen though. If one image works, the others should too... or so i would have presumed. All my images are in the same image folder and they are all either jpg or gif files. My website is feedthefitness.com i hope it's ok i mention it on this forum. I think it would be good to be able to have a look at the site to see what i'm talking about. Any ideas of what could be the problem would be greatly appreciated. I've tried up-loading my site a few times and it's made no difference. Thanks in advance. I can view the result perfectly in explorer. Now I mailed it to my own mailbox (via explorer) and in outlook (and also in hotmail) the swap image effect doesn't appear.(the second photo is not shown) Is there a possibility to see this in my mailbox? I tried to paste the code into my outlook, but that doesn't work with the regular outlook, I only can view the source, not edit it. Thank you very much in advance! Im no pro and most of the stuff ive been using to build has been through layouts/generators/help of others such as yourselves. So ive been stuck on finding/making this code for the past couple of days. So all my listings are on my agencys website, not my personal agent website. Is there a code i could have where in the listings page my my personal agent website, i could have a window maybe 600x900 of the listing page on my agencys website? To kind of clear things up, you know how when you google something you have the magnifying glass, how it gives that preview. How can i have that preview coded onto a webpage, but me say what webpage to preview and how big to make the preview box? Tried to explain it as best i could. If you dont know the code, if you can tell me what its called so i can try to narrow the google searches. So far everything that has been coming up in the search restults has been preview boxes to preview html codes you have already written. Fail Blog Thanks http://www.heresmary.com I just finished uploading my site, and I noticed that when I click on a link the page loads then loads again a split second after. Does this happen to anyone else? If so can anyone give me any advice about it? I'm a novice compared to the pros here and stuck on a couple issues. My website is uspsrealty.com There is some "empty" space on my home page below the horizontal line. I want to remove the horizontal line and have the ability to use that empty space without throwing my borders/margins off. I would like to add about 3-4 sentences in that blank area. Can this be changed so I can add a few sentences? I know why this is happening, just don't know how to correct it. Also want to change the copyright.jpg to 2010 from 2009. Might as well make up a few more jpgs with the years 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015 Willing to paypal you money for your help. Okay that most probably didnt explain it very well but I am looking at putting a page together that will display a specific image at the top of the page dependant on where the visitor came from So if they came to my site from a link from abc.com then they will see the ABC logo on our page however if they came from 123.net then they will see the same page but this time with the 123.net logo. If we cant find where they have came from or we dont have an image for that forwarder then it will show a default image Anyone know if this can be done?? Hell everyone. ?> Thank you ! I want my webpage to fit any resolution, and I am doing something wrong, could you help me with the right coding? thank you Hi, I'm new to the site and I'm just here to ask a question. I've been having trouble with my webpage trying to center everything. The problem is that at home my webpage is centered (When you zoom out everything stays centered) but as for school I zoom out and everything stays to the left and I'm pretty sure I left all the code the same from computer to computer. I don't think it is the resolution because I had changed my resolution to the same as at school. This is my coding (I'm an amateur at Html and don't know CSS):
Home - WebBanners

 Welcome To WebBanners!

H ere we make special just-for-you banner.

Every banner is unique to the person who have ordered them.

They are sold at a reasonable price and if you don't
like them then we offer full money back guaranteed.

We also have an interactive department where you can
talk to one of 'us' through the microphone so we can help you.
All you have to do is ask through the E-mail.

We can make tons of banners for your website such as the one above
or see more Here

We have prices for your special needs.
All of the banners we offer are your ideas.
Ask and we can do it for you!
