HTML - Shrinking Load Time: Where To Start?
Hello, I need help shrinking the loading time of my website.
I think the main problem is the javascripts, ive managed to compress as most images possible, they shouldnt be a problem. I just dont know what to shrink else? Have no idea how to to the .js and .css? Advice needed, thanks. website here Similar TutorialsI have a marquee control which i am using is my Asp.net application. But marquee starts after 7 seconds of delay.... But what i need is to display the first item and then scroll after 7 seconds of delay I am using this control in my code behind like this: Testmarq.Controls.Add(new LiteralControl(@"<Marquee OnMouseOver='this.stop();' OnMouseOut='this.start();' direction='up' scrollamount='200' scrolldelay = '7000' behavior='scroll' bgcolor='#ffffff' width='100%' >")); Any idea.. what i am missing.... Thanks in advance Kunal Uppal Hello, I am designing a site for a friend at: www.vintageparlor.com I am fairly new to HTML, but I know FTP and how hosting works. Something I have noticed is that the site seems to load a bit sluggish... I am guessing that this is due to the images on the page, specifically the background image. What should I do? Or is that not the problem? Thanks! -Jordan okay so i have tables built with images set as the background property of the table sections to created a rounded graphical appearance to the tables. the problem is that when the page loads without being cached on the clients end for the first time it builds the site in a choppy method. you see each image come up one at a time and it builds the tables, after its cached that goes away until you dump your cache in your browser. so what im wanting to know is, is there a way (other than server side compression) to reduce or remove this choppy load time, so its just like.. blank page then BAM! full page, like a way to force precaching or make it so fast that you cant visually see the tables being built before they are cached? www.wiffleague.com/main.php so heres some things i tried: - making the images as small as i know how (they could be smaller i guess, im not sure how to do that though) - reducing the amount of images to the bare minimum required to render the tables properly - removing redundant html code from the tables such as 'width="100%"' from some of the td fields when a prior row already has the width set properly, thus the columns still align properly but there is less code to process some things that are not suitable solutions: - get a faster server - put less content data on the page - only use _____ browser - use apache's gzip compression to force the images even smaller than they already are during transmission then the browser decompresses and renders them Hey guys I'm new here, as I found this forum on google. I've run across a little problem or big problem so to speak. I have coded my website and it will load in FF, but not Safari or IE. It had an php function wrong the other day, but I have since fixed that and now I just a white page. Here's a link to the site(don't mind the simple, crappy layout) http://s2roots.com/random/done/ Please any help would be great, this is a project due by Wed. Hi, please tell me what should I start learning to create an interactive website like facebook.com and photobucket.com . I have good knowledge in HTML and CSS but I want a website where people could register, have profiles, upload pictures, post comments to others etc. Just don't know how to start and what to read Please help Thank you Hi, I'm not too sure if this is the right section for this, so forgive me if it's not... I am about to embark on designing a new site, I have some experience of HTML and general design, but not too much beyond that. The site I am aiming to develop is to be a lot more dynamic than anything I have done in the past. I am not too sure on the best methods for acheiving what I want, so I will list the desired features. It would be really helpful if someone could tell me which languages I need to look at. I am prepared to learn for this (already started looking into very basic xml and php), but the main goal is an easy to use, well presented site in a relatively short time. The features I require are as follows: 1. A news/post section for only selected members to log in and add content (including the odd graphic). It would be useful if each post could exist as an independent 'module' and, for instance, appear on its own embedded on another site. 2. A music player (probably flash, this on itself is not an issue) that can also be embedded in another site. 3. A user forum (I have a MySQL database, but have no real experience of using it) - possibly using PHPBB?. 4. A number of linear comments sections that can exist below posts and other items (that does not necessarily require login, but can include a name and comment). 5. A site design which remains the same page for page but where the content can be entirely different (so the title and links etc. remain the same). Once again, I am not looking for detailed instructions on how to acheive this, just what I need to start looking at and any tips or problems I am likely to run into. I would be extremely grateful if someone would take the time to indulge me. Thanks in advance! <embed id="VideoPlayback" src="http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=5893249792876905264&hl=en&fs=true" style="width:400px;height:326px" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"> </embed> Here's my question, what do I need to do to make the player from above, to start playing as soon as the web page downloads ? By the way, I am a certified HTML newbie. Another word, please be easy on me. Thanks. So if you are starting a new page from scratch and don't really have a fixed idea in your head of a design do you just strt of with a template from DW(assuming you use DW). After that, adding a menu seems to progress things quite well, then working next on the footer also seems to work quite well. But it is so easy to get into a right mess with divs and tables here and there and no fixed goal as to what you are doing How do you guys do it??? Also do you ever download a page form the net and change the graphics a bit to make it look a bit different but basically keep the layout and i suppose pretty much reporduce the page with different graphics? So first off, I am looking to build a website that will incorporate a CMS. Do you have to use certain type of code types so that it will work with different CMS's? Read somewhere that certain dropdown menu's and such only worked with certain CMS... So I guess, if I am looking to build a site, do I need to know what CMS I am going to use from the start? Ok, I'm not a developer by any means, I've been seeking help on this forum for awhile, for little things. I'm basically going to attempt to learn this all on my own with help of course from this site, books, and others. I have designed the basic mock up for my site, and want to see where and how I can start from scratch. I'm trying to do this entirely in dreamweaver/css (is it possible) here is the mockup Now I'm inept in this stuff so bare with me... My main question is, whats the best way to divide up this layout as far as div tags go? It's wierd because I have the right hand side which incorporates a "header" (design part) and a journal, news, blog thing. And then the left hand side I intend on being static information that holds the content. Any advice? I know this is a mess, sorry, I'm a print guy Thanks Ive had this code before back when I was in school. It simulated the windows start bar in the explorer where if you clicked the start button a list of directories came up and you could select a htm file within that was linked in it...and it would have a tab in the bottom next to that start button that would allow you to switch between them like tabs essentially. I was wondering if anyone happened to have that code by chance its been a long time and I couldn't seem to find it by searching. Thanks in Advance Well ive been coding games for BYOND (Build your own network dream) for a while it wasnt that dificult to grasp the coding style and i just recently started coding for windows phone 7 XNA games. Well as i was talking about coding for wp7 me and my friend came up with a really good idea for a new social networking website nothing like myspace or facebook so hey, what do we have to lose? Well the past 2 days ive learned basic HTML coding but i have no idea where to start. I really need help. Where do i run the HTML code i make to see how it would test as a web site is one of the main things i cant seem to figure out. I also need to know how to make different pages within the website Please help it would be greatly appreciated. What is the first thing you do, do you do it from scratch in notepad or do you use a wysiwyg editor, or do you use a template? Is the first thing you do make a table of div for the header and work from there or do you draw out the design you want? Hi, I recently got myself my new laptop. I got a MacBook. And Mac's are great for web site design. I have very little design experience, just playing around with DreamWeaver. I am 13 and want to pursue a career in Web site design. What do I need? Where do I go? What should I learn? I am not too keen on coding a page, I would like to do it visually. Is this right? Thank you, all help is much appreciated. Nick. Hi all, My roommate is looking to create a e-commerce website that consists of a hundreds of scrollable 'pages', left to right. Each 'page' will consist of a picture on the right side and a product offer on the left. The intent is to allow the user to easily scroll the 'pages', browsing through different types of products and pictures. She would want to use a platform or theme that is fully expandable and customizable, as she is eventually looking to implement social networking and magazine-like content and functionality. Again, she has no real design or coding experience. The only thing she is somewhat familiar with is Wordpress. So, what would be some of your suggestions for getting started? Thanks in advance Is it possible to start a page scrolled down a certain amount automatically? Not through a link, just so that whenever someone visits the site, it is scrolled down that default amount? Thanks! Hello guys, I'm not sure how to start this design out. If you'll take a look at the image below, I would like to design a page that just has text where the page is on the right hand side. What would be the best way to go about doing this? I want to be able to scroll if there is a lot of text (this is the light grey area), plus have the red tabs link to different pages. This isn't the final design, as I just wanted to highlight different areas for you to be able to see it better. Anyway, any suggestions you have on how to do this would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!! Hello. I just joined the forums because I want to start making websites again. I used to do it about 3 years ago ( nothing hardcore), but i knew enough to make basic websites. Now, I want to learn the more indepth stuff. Such as Mysql, perl, css, java, javascript etc... i dont even know what someof those are. So heres my question. WHERE SHOULD I START? I want to start from scratch. I dont even rememeber some of the html stuff, so where do you guys think i should start? what are the fundamentals i need to know in order to move on to the more difficult stuff. One last thing, can someone tell me the difference between html/xhtml/xml.. im kinda lost... Here's my CSS-code for an item in a list: li { margin: 0em 0em 0em 4em; padding: 2px 0px 0px 2px; font-size: 9pt; } Now when I try to make a sublist, the problem is that the items in the sublist start from the same horizontal position than the items in the "main" list. Anyway to fix this? Should a make a new CSS item but with different margins and padding? How is that going to work since there's only one "li" available? How should I name it then? I used dis below script, which wil ask my visitor his name,n den wil display it in the corresponding page. But i dont know, where i went wrong,n its not working in my html page. Someone please rectify it n give me its working script for an html page. Please... Ok here is the script.. IN HEAD TAG, <script language=JavaScript> <!-- script supplied free by hypergurl.com http://www.hypergurl.com --> <!--- start of javascript hide var Firstname=prompt("Enter your Firstname :","Firstname"); // unhide ---> </script> IN BODY TAG, <script language=JavaScript> <!--- start of javascript hide document.write("<center><h1>Welcome" + " "); document.write(Firstname + " "); document.write("</h1></center>"); //unhide ---> </script> |
