HTML - Multiple Layouts For One Site

Hey, I have made a layout in Photoshop CS3, and would like to start coding it into a website. Anyone have a tutorials that they can point me to inorder to achieve this?

I'm currently working on a Web Design assignment for College, and I'm having a hard time trying to find the second way of building a lay out using HTML. We have done the table way of doing it, and I have got that way down, but i can't find out the other way.

Could you guys maybe give me a little help, or at least a push in the right direction?

Recently one heck of a lot of stuff about why you should use tabless layouts, but I have yet to find any reason to use tabless layouts, apart from their fashionable and W3C say so.

However I have found several not to use them. Let me start with a plain simple myth about:

Tabless layouts are more browser compatibly.

Right? I frequently seen Mozilla Firefox, and IE process tabless layouts in quite different ways. Yet every time I have seen a table based layout, virtual browser has processed it exactly the same. The only exception I have seen is a percentage height on a table.

Positioning

Also has anyone here found with nested div's, a reliable way of positioning a nested div and still keeping firmly fixed to the parent? Ok, you can use the absolute position and make sure the div is within the area of the parent, what happens if you move or resize the parent div? I have yet to find of way of making sure the child stay in a position relative to is parent, apart from not using positioing at all. If their is a way of reliably positioning a div relative to its parent, then I would be very glad to know.
Fixing a 'div' to another div.

Secondly, if you got a multiple column layout, without using JS, I yet to see a way of fixing two or more divs to together to make sure that they are always the same height.

With a table layout, you just had three columns in the table, and they will be fixed together, no faffing about

Overflowing Content.

Anyone here ever had a content div nested in a parent div, What happens when the content divs hot taller than the parent. In a very large number of setups, the contents of the content will flow straight out the parent. To sort the problem out you resize the parent.

With a table, whats in the table stays in the table. I have yet to see it happen any other way.


This is how things are my experience, I have yet to see any article that tells any way of doing that completely avoids all of these problems. If you know a way of avoiding these problems please, if not, and I ask the question, what is the practical point of tableless layouts?

viewing the site with chrome or safari doesnt work yet as im still trying to figure out the css for both sets of browsers, but any help you could afford would be greatly apreciated!

Ok so here I am yet again with another mess on my hands. I know tables are tales of yore so I have recently dived into the world of divs. Well now I find myself with a coding issue that I could easily achieve with a table no problem.

If I was using a table I could set a BG image and then I could put text over the image or another transparent image over that. I am wanting to achieve the same effect but with divs. If I am not mistaken all I have to do is create a div and float another div on top of that div however this I am finding is not as easy for the CSS beginner. Mind you I am not new to programming. So how is it done?

I am wondering if it is possible to create an INDEX.HTML to redirect to another website?

I would like it to display the redirected site, but if possible keep to the original address..

e.g.
A site named www.mysite.com, with an INDEX.HTML to redirect to www.othersite.com, which displays OTHERSITE with www.mysite.com in the address bar.

Now, obviously with business cards there many different options. I need something to calculate on the side the total after picking each drop box option, or if easier, after hitting "calculate total." (preferably with the numbers in a table so I can make it appear by itself right underwear the send button) . Example: 1000 business cards in blue, say, would need to come up at 50 dollars if they pick 3-1, but if they pick 3-22 it needs to come up 60 dollars

if they pick the other color, green, and pick 3-1, the label would need to turn to $55.00, if they pick 3-2 with the color green the label would need to say $65.00

how can i do this please?

Hey guys and thanks in advanced for helpin' me out with this one.

Anyways, I'm building a sort of "Advanced" search functionality.

I want to give the user the ability to select multiple checkboxes in different categories (forms) but to be able to account for each checkbox even though they are in different forms.

For example a Newspaper might have a search for an article by:

SO looking at the above...If the user "checked" (I placed 'x' in there) those boxes...and clicked ANY of the submit buttons, I want to be able to pull-in EACH of the checked items from ALL THREE of the forms.

What is happening now with my code, is I'm only getting the results for the form which I clicked the 'submit' button in.

I know you might ask, "why not just put them in one form?"... but I have them in separate forms because I want the user to have the ability to "CHECK/UNCHECK ALL" for each category (i.e. Paper Type, Location, Article Section...)

Is it as easy as just wrapping all of those forms in one GIANT form, and supply each submit button with the name of that GIANT form?

I hope this makes sense, and let me know if you need anything else at all...it's the last piece of this search and I just want to get it out of the waY!!

I have designed my site using firefox as my default browser. My site looks exactly as I want in all of the following; Firefox, Chrome and Safari but IE 8 shifts my navigation links.

this part positions left ' var StartLeft=-8; ' - if I set that to ' var StartLeft=0; ' that aligns it in IE8 but knocks it out of line in the other 3.

HELP I've tried all but everything and I can find no way to get it to align in all!

Ok, I have a big serious problem. I codded my whole page on Firefox, not on IE or Chrome. So when I use it in Firefox, there is not a problem. When I do it in IE, everything is not in the right position. Then I tried in Chrome. The footer goes beside the sidebar. Is there a certain CSS or HTML code I have to add for it to work in IE or Chrome?

I am not using Wordpress, I codded the whole site.

1) i want to get the buttons at the top and bottom of the page to not have any space between them and the tabe so the run hard up against the table

2)I have the table border at 0 but thier is still white space between the tabe edge and the photos on the side and top - i was hoping to get the photo so the run to end of the table with no white space

3)also not sure if i am inthe right section for this question but i will try anyway - the buttons at the bottom of the page which designed in fireworks are working correctly but the ones at the top of the page the roll over does not work not sure why or how to fix this ..........thanks in advance for any help
