HTML - Content Isn't Showing Up On Website
Hey All,
don't know if you can help but, my website address is: http://glycemicindexandweightloss.com if you look at the source page you will see that all of the coding is there but the website site states that it is formatted incorrectly. and none of the content shows up. If anyone can take a quick look at this and possibly see something off I would really appreciate it. thanks in advance. Anyway I know a few things about HTML and CSS... Also about Photoshop... I have been making some not awesome but good designs for blogs. I stopped a while ago since I kind of got bored at the time. Anyway in the ideas I'm thinking of making a blog whos picture will be randomly selected among some of the ones I uploaded somewhere on then net. So I'm actualy looking for some type of a script that I could insert somewhere in the code that will somehow randomly select a link of lets say 3 links and then insert it somewhere else in the code. Or in more simple way ( i tend to complicate things ) I'm looking for something that will select a random picture from thoes to which I have links added in the code and then show it on the desired place as a backgraund and so on. I am no web developer, but I have done some for my degree and other various bits/bobs. I produced a very simplistic website for a client, however the website is showing up different, on different PC's and I cannot get to the bottom of it. Now, I know this is down to my own inexperience in coding, but I followed various books, online suggestions for layout (relative, margin) positioning techniques, and the website looks fine on my PC, on my mrs work PC, even on the clients PC in his office (this is a mixture of IE8 - Win7, XP). However, I get an email from the client, and his understudy, last night saying the website looks terrible. All the text the 3rd column looks out of line (maybe because I used line:height?). As you can see, without having a clear understanding of the backbone of HTML coding, I am going to suffer. The CSS validates, the HTML validates with W3c. The website is: http://www.fpcuk.co.uk The issue is with IE7 and IE8. I coded the website in IE8, but it looks different on IE7. Could you have a look at it for me, and let me know where I have gone wrong. or give me some tips on making it compatible with both IE7 / IE8. There is only about 20 lines of code. It is mainly the right-hand column. I'm tearing my hair out with this. I just cannot get the website to look right in IE7 and IE8 - its driving me fking crazy.. I have just reuploaded my site, which contains 3 image flips, and I am only seeing the outline of where the images should be in both Safari and Internet Explorer. Hello. I just want to start off by saying that I have never made a website before; I am a film maker. Well, I had a project in mind that I wanted to fulfill, and I didn't know how to do it, so I came across this forum because it seemed like a knowledgeable resource. All I want my website to have is a name of my production company on the top, and a list of text that, when clicked, opens each respective video up in a new window below that. And that is all. Recently I've been really frustrated with IE's script blocking feature. I have been using onmouseover feature that triggers the buttons to change image. I have the script all working and tested in FrontPage, however, any time I go to view the web page, Internet Explorer gives me that little message saying: "To help protect your security, Internet Explorere has restricted this file from showing active content that could access your computer. Click here for options..." I have gone to other web sites which use plenty of onmouseover feature however, and I don't get this message. How are they doing it??? Is there a way to tell IE that the script is harmless or something? Am I using some method that IE says is dangerous? I have all my files stored on my computer (.htm + graphics + other junk), and have already purchased a domain. I was wondering how to upload these files onto my site, and get my site going. I understand that I need to purchase a hosting service. I tried that, and didn't understand what to do. I uploaded all my files with the uploader provided, including the index.htm files, and nothing happened. I was then sent to filezilla - some kind of FTP someting (I don't even know what FTP is), and I had no idea what to do with that software. help please? I know I'm probably going to get ridiculed for this being my first post, but I can't seem to find any help elsewhere. I browsed the forum a bit before posting but didn't really know what to look for. Anyway, onto the point... I want to make an area to put all of my content like text and images and what not in that main area but I don't really have any idea how to do it. Also the background image isn't showing up in firefox, so if you have any idea how to fix that let me know. But for now I guess you have to look at it in IE. Also, I will be having galleries under the evergreen, perennials, etc. tabs, and I think I want to use lightbox, but I don't know much about it. So any tips with that would help. I'm writing my web site in Notepad++, using XHTML (source: w3schools tutorial) , and also getting into XML. This is my website. What I want to do is like this: 1) Move all the text content of my website to mywebsite.xml, organized in text blocks corresponding to each web page E.g.: I cut the text content from the HMTL of the "my profile" web page and paste it to the XML file as a text block under a suitable heading. By text content I mean all the text that is viewable, like "Autodidact. Freelance English-Spanish translator and style proofreader..." 2) Mark each text block in the XML E.g.: I mark the above mentioned text block with an id, "profile" 3) Place a link in the page's HTML to the corresponding text block in mywebsite.xml, so it calls the text when the page is loaded E.g.: where the original text content of the "my profile" page was, I place a link to the corresponding text block marked "profile", so the text is called and viewable when the page is loaded That way I'd manage text content more easily. For example, the text of my menu entries is the same in all pages. I want that when I need to modify the text of a menu entry (e.g. replacing "graphic design" by "visual art"), I can just do it in the XML file and that's all, instead of making the change in every web page. I have a list within a table and much of the content has links to two different javascript codes. One is a popup javascript to so that I can control the window size and the other is a toggle.display javascript to show/hide specific details about my list. The scripts run fine, but for some odd reason the content in my table gets cut off randomly towards the end of the list. I went through to make sure that I didn't have any div tags nested.. etc.. and i'm now at a complete loss as to why my content within the table gets randomly cut off. Hi, Im trying to make my footer content align correctly to the main content when a window resizes. I was just wondering how I can replace a word or number with a specified word or number. What I want to achieve: I've got a forum with a couple thousand members and it's picking up in activity and I want to make some names stand out for being helpful. I want to replace their names with an image. But to do so, it'd have to be a code made and added into the footer template. Because obviously I can't edit a username for html image code. Hope you get the idea. So what i want is to have a bar on top that is my homepage (like the google bar in the link), but the rest is the actual website that has been linked. I don't really care much about the url. It doesn't have to be my homepage url, it can be the actual website url. Google has been able to do that somehow, so it is possible.
