HTML - Grabbing Links From A Main Link Page To Allow Easy Update?
Hi guys,
Is there a way I can have a page of links sat in a directory which I can call from via other pages on the server? I think I'm thinking of something that can be done with PHP, but the idea is: On main page, for example, links: 1 2 3 All call to 'links.html' Which has a list of page URL's, each with their own ID. So the links on the main page call to the ID's, which extracts the link listed at that moment in time. So if I later want to change the link, I have only to change the link.html and not every related link on the site. I know I could maybe use inline frames, but the layout I have makes that not possible, and it's still not a great solution. I'm sure someone must know what I'm talking about. As an example, if someone were to click on Characters, there would be a page of short profiles, and a list of links on the side ever present while you are in the character section. I was wondering if there was an easy way to have this update without having to go though every character page and copy-paste a new link in every time a page gets added? On that same not, I've seen sites with the expanding and contracting menus with the click of an icon (usually a '+'). How does one go about that? okay so I'm using tables, (please don't lecture me on CSS) I'm doing this for a friend, and you would probably woun't do much for how much it pays. anyways so I'm using old fashioned tables in dreamweaver, I'm using a template and applying it to the html pages. In Dreamweaver, the links are the color that I want..grey,,,but when I upload them to the web, they go purple? or maybe it's the default blue. This is what I've done: 1) change them in the page properties in the template page -no good 2) attempt some basic css, with the automatic css selector in dreamweaver, uing a:link, a:hover etc, and applying it to the text --no good so can I change it in the code somewhere? or what??? no rebuilding and doing it in CSS is not an option, I don't know enough about it yet, Please help: www.altmedschools.com I am attempting to use google analytics on a website someone else developed. I am now in charge of updating this site but am having a problem finding the home page so I may add a google meta tag which would verify me as site owner. The site is at http://www.vandam.com However when I look at the directory on my ftp site and open the file labeled main.html, it looks nothing like the source code I see via the web. What is going on with this. Which file should I be looking for? I'm getting rid of my index.html file, and replacing it with a brand new index.php file. But I have a problem... I have a forum which has an index.php file... If I rename my websites index.php file to homepage.php, am I able to have that page load up when someone visits my website, or does it have to be named index.php? I have wordpress installed at mydomain.com/blog and I want a simple splash page to show up at mydomain.com. I've created the page in html and it works the way I want it to but I can't get it to show up at mydomain.com. When I go to mydomain.com it shows up as INDEX OF and I can click the splash page file but I want the domain to point straight to the splash file. Thanks for any help you can offer. I have a web page that has a gap between the main content page (lower) and the header piece(upper) and I can't figure out how to close this gap. If you're interested in taking a look at it. Hi, I am trying to figure out how to restrict users (guests) from browsing straight to a page within my site. I would like to ensure that all users must access the site via www.mysite.com Example: User- browses to www.mysite.com/pages/interestingpage.php (or .htm) I would prefer to force the "User" to click their manually via the links on my main page. I imagine some sort of session would be required for this. However I do not wish to require users to log in. I've heard that .htaccess or Apache's config file can be used but so far I have not been successful. I do have full access to the server/configuration. Hoping someone can assist. (hello) Thanks Hi Guys really hope you can help I have a site which runs off a couple of templates and what i need to do is add some code into one of the ditable regions so that it will pic up the Page title and drop it in the body off the page. e.g. the page title is 'Monkey23' and i require 'Monkey23' to automatically show up in the Body of the page. I have hundreds of pages all with different titles and therefore manual titling is not an option. Anyone got any awesome code to help me? On my main website homepage i have a splash image which when clicked redirects to the main website, also in another folder i have a phpbb3 Forum. Below the image on my homepage i have a login box for the forum as well. What i would like to do is to hide that login box unless a keyword is entered before hand, and make the domain.com/forum URL inaccessible unless you login through this route. basically hiding the forum completely so people dont actually know its there. I could do this through .htaccess however i was hoping there was a "cleaner" way to do this. So when then user moves the scoll wheel only the text are will scroll. I dont want there to be any border or scroll bars around the text, so the only visable scroll bar will be the browsers... any ideas? So I'd like to have a 160*600 box with hyperlinks displaying only a headlines I select. I would like the bottom of the box to have arrows for navigating between sections of links that fit in the box with a place to enter a page number in between them. I would like it to begin with displaying the most recently posted links starting on the last page number with that being the first page it displays. I want the bottom of the box to include below the browsing chronological browsing feature an arrow facing left with the word "search" that would open a box with a place to type in text for it to search link headlines. At the bottom of the search box I would like an arrow facing down with the words "search by label". Yes, I would like to not only select a headline for each link but also categorically label them. If I could also select images for it to automatically fill the empty space with when a new page number is started that would be great, even better if it selects ones that fill the most depending on how long the headlines are. If it repeated headlines in extra page space instead of showing images that would be cool too. I'd also like it to automatically expand in height past 160*600 to make a new page number just for a headline that doesn't fit in 160*600. I need this in HTML. We have a page that shows when certain production jobs have run and the last time i had to update it i had to actually change the HTML code and that was a pain. Is there an easier way to maintain this HTML page? I'd like to work with something like WORD where i just deal with the content on the WORD page and let WORD generate the HTML, but this particular HTML page has custom layout, but i'm figuring since WORD can do it there must be another tool that can handle this custom layout and content like a WORD HTML page? This file is being loaded from a frameset and when I load it in IE it doesn't update, I have to wipe all the temporary IE files in order to see the updated content. Thanks in advanced. I want to update the header/footer on each page of the site I'm working on without having to manually edit every single page. So I've been told to use sitetools - in that folder is a file called "makesite" in which I input all the pages that I want these changes to be on. Then I login thru PuTTy, an SSH client, and type in these commands: "cd sitetools" and then "makesite." Except when I type in "makesite," it says "Command not found." I've never dealt with sitetools before - I just took over the webmaster job for my professor as a (VERY) part-time gig so all I ever do is edit, I don't know a whole lot beyond basic HTML. If anyone can offer me any guidance, I'd really appreciate it! My current web site is at "CAVAglass.com" I created "http://www.cavaglass.com/gallery/1.GORMENGHAST.htm" and want it to be my new Index Page. All the links work fine here. Lets say i have 20 pages and want to add a new button called "Contact" on top of every page. How can i do that in a smart way? So you create a site for a client and that client has to update the page with whatever area they work in, maybe they work in real estate and have a new house on the market to add to the site etc.. Well i could easily write a php script that would add their content to the site, but i can image there could be errors somewhere down the line, what happens then, they phone you up to complan etc...? So what content modifying tools/script do you use? I have a folder which contains over 1000 songs on my server Artist-Song.mp3 format. I want to create a links page with my own template and such, but not have to sit and copy/paste the urls 1000 times. I need a program or script that would just recognize all the files in that folder so I can make a page to display all the songs. See what I'm saying? |
