HTML - Newb Question
Hi all, first time poster. I'm taking an html/css class and have gotten a little stuck on one of the assignments. The instructions say to "Style the address element to display as bold and Arial text. The text should be all uppercase letters as white text on a navy background. Make sure the background color does not extend from the left edge of the screen to the right edge of the screen."
The bolded part is where im having trouble. Everything else is fine but the backgorund color is extending all the ti the left, and I can't figure out how to make it be only the background of the text. I styled the address tag in a css sheet. Here is the css code: address{ font-style: bold; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-seriff; text-transform: uppercase; color: white; background-color: navy; } And here is the html code:
Women's Council on Entrepreneurship in the Americas
23 Butler Blvd.
Suite 400B
Hamilton Creek, NJ 35688
Sorry for the long post. Any help would be much appreciated. Similar TutorialsGreetings to all! I am in the HTML & CSS game for about a week now.. I been looking at online Tutorials for days and trying to understand everything...I am not a Book learner...More of someone trying to show how to..I guess I pick up on that way easier...lol My Question is I need to learn how to do Internal links!!..I am making my first website...I do not understand how to set-up the code in HTML to connect pages together... My co-worker was working on it before I took over this is what they put:

HOME

ABOUT US

SALES

QUALITY

CONTACT US

I have created a new page for the "sales" page and saved as a JPG File...How do I go about making it a clickable link now from the home page to the "sales" page?? Sorry for asking a dumb question too...LoL! ok so lets say i get one of these free css/xhtml templates that have columns. And i have link on the left: home about us contact us blah blah blah.... and in cpanel i have index.html which is the first page. (home page) now, for contact us, do i created a new file in cpanel and call it contactus.html and just copy paste everything and change the body to our phone numbers and emails? or is there an easier way to accompish this? If the explanation is too long, my aim is pballa818, so IM me and we can talk there. Thanks for all your help guys!! Hi. I was wondering if there were any generous souls in this forum that could help me out? I am new to HTML (et al) and am trying to test something here at work. I need to try and identify all the tags\attributes that might contain a URL (absolute path - Eg. http://mycompany.com ...). I am aware that links in HTML contain an href attribute. So I think I am all set there. However, there are other attributes that I might not be aware of. For example, an external javascript file etc. I believe that CSS, XML (et al ???) might also contain absolute URLs. I am just not sure if that's true or not. Would anybody be able to come up with a list of of languages and tags\attributes that might contain a URL. Or point me to a source that would have a consise list (versus having me spend a week researching all the possibilities). Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is a major PITA. I am very new to using HTML, I have looked everywhere for a way to make an icon change when you roll over it with you mouse but I could find nothing by Google it. I pieced this code together But I have read that Google will drop your ranking on them if you have bad coding on your site. I am just wondering if this is an OK code to use, and if not is there a better way to do this. It is working on my site the way I wanted it to so I am hoping it is OKO to use. Any and all help is appreciated BTW this is the site so you can see how the icon looks http://www.getfreepsncardcodes.com/ Hello I'm assuming I'm in the right area for this. http://hiatus.5u.com/index.html I'm wanting to position a box on this website with HTTP links that open a new browser. I've tried using custom drawn boxes, but my website doesn't like it, it's chewing up the links and wont link them. If you look at the website link there I posted, to the right side of the page there is a box that is empty, below it says something like "links will open a new browser" I want to set links there. I don't know what style of scripting I need to accomplish that. I'm starting to feel like html isn't cutting the mustard. And frontpage isn't cutting the mustard over there. I also have another question, about setting up an html password. I have this setup here ~ Code: I want it to work like this, if you put in a password and it's incorrect, it'll send you to an error page. This somewhat works, however not accurately enough. If you leave it blank it will spit out an error site. But if you put any random thing, as long as the box isn't empty it will work. I don't mind if the password is in the page source code, that's not a big deal. Most people I know don't have a clue you can even look at source code. So as long as I can ring a few in doing it this way I'm fine. ive done it now nvm, google ftw Hello everyone, I've been racing to learn html/css in the past couple weeks to throw up a website, and so far so good. But: I've searched the internet and I cannot find an answer to my questions. The page in question is: http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/jonmille/projects.html style sheet (relevant section is in the "Programming: List Settings" section) http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/jonmille/style.css You can see that the gray borders under the text/images have a small break in them. I assume it has something to do with the fact that I'm using two columns. How do I fix this and make a solid border (in a non hackish way)? Note: if you say "use css/divs," I wrestled with those for about two hours before I gave up and made a table. Secondly, in IE7, all the images/text are completely flushed left, ignoring the table padding. How can I fix this? Note, I've never checked this site in IE6 or below, and never will, so if it looks wrong in IE6, then the user doesn't deserve to see my site anyway. Thanks for your time! Jon Hi I've built a website for my karaoke show, and would like to add a blog page to the site. Rather than 3rd party, I'd prefer to have my own blog on my own domain to increase traffic for the SE crawlers. I was wondering... - what some good options are ie what blog software to use - if I can have a blog that somehow incorporates Facebook and Twitter (i've seen Facebook connect, but I'd like something that posts my blog messages to my Facebook and Twitter pages) I currently have a Typepad blog on there, but as I said, I'd prefer to have my own blog code, not third party. The site is www.billygoatkaraoke.com.au , and I'd really like the blog to stay on the site - I'm thinking that I'll have a blog page open up over the goat when someone clicks on the BLOG link. Cheers Shaun What exactly is XHTML. how much different from HTML is it? and, do I have to re-learn a whole bunch of stuff to write valid code with it? _________________ Golf Communities visa credit card review On my website, all of the images I've posted, have been created using Photoshop. How is it possible, in order to create clickable links on top of existing images? For instance scattered around the existing image? I guess that this is possible using Dreamweaver CS3, although I am hand-coding, therefore I was wondering if there was another way, and if so, how? Thanks a lot guys. I am using a div relative to place text on top of an image. The problem that I am having is in Firefox when a dropdown list is overtop of this div tag, the div tag shows up on top of the dropdown. I do not want this to happen. It does not happen in IE and it allows the dropdown to show up on top. How do I fix this My code looks like this:
Example Text
Thanks. Jeff M Hi guys! Im new to this forum so don't expect much. Im wandering is it possible to load html document without your browser or an html editor. cheers Connor Hi. Here is my problem: I want a div layer with transparent background, but on the div-layer I want a table with no transparacy covering about 90% of the background. Is it possible to make just the background transparent or am I forced to use two layers, one for the background and one slightly smaller for the table. Parashurama I have a real rookie question. I am new to CSS and I was wondering if I need to upload my CSS files to me web server, and if so do they need to go into a special directory on that server? Thanks Hello, I have a small customer list, maybe 70 customers, and i want to display on my website in a table with hyperlinks to their website and i want to sort them alphabetically. I entered all the information in MS excel, but when i import the data into dreamweaver cs3 i only get the names and not the hyperlink. Any ideas on how i can do this? I also don't have much knowledge on databasing, so i don't think thats an option unless its the only way, then i'll have to learn it. Thanks Hi there, great website! been browsing the forums and searching and havent found what i am looking for, so here goes a post. I have my own website, and I also have a webmail account with my hosting company (ixwebhosting) what i want to do is make 2 little boxes on my website, where you put username and password, and have that then take you to the ixwebhosting webmail login and go in directly to my webmail, can that be done? any ideas or links much appreciated! thanks 4 ur time! Hello! I am new to this forum...sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place. I'm contructing my own jewelry website. I put in my ALT tags, and when I view the pages in my browser (I'm using Dreamweaver), the ALT tags don't show up. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Here's a sample: Am I doing something wrong? I would really appreciate knowing. I'm just about done with my website...this is the last thing I'm working on. KathyK27 Ok, how would I go about getting a margin around several frames, but not between themselves, hence there's no gap. Say I wanted the page to fill only 75% of the height and only 50% of the width. I would then center all the framsets. If it helps, like this website has random blankness around the edge, and let's presume they're my 3 frames in the middle. Here's my code for the html file that says how big the frames will be and stuff.

Wills Music

<frameset rows="15%,85%" border="20" frameborder="0" framespacing="0"> <frame src="title.htm" name="title" noresize scrolling="no"> <frameset cols="25%,75%" border="0" frameborder="0" framespacing="0"> <frame src="menu_bar.htm" name="sidemenu" scrolling="auto"> <frame src="welcome.htm" name="mainwindow" noresize scrolling="auto"> </frameset> </framset> <noframes> Your browser does not support frames. Please visit the frameless page. </noframes>
thanks, I would help other people but I'm sooo new to coding I don't know naffin' Hi, I was wondering if it is possible to create an image that floats where ever you put it on the page. For example, it would float above this text, blocking it out. Basically I want it to ignore anything around of underneath it. I would also like it not to use scripts, if possible. Oh and one more thing, is it possible to do this between the body tags only? Thanks!
