Hi, does anybody have a link that could point me in the right direction of learning about a drop down menu that is used as a search option? Such as in this site here-
click me!

So basically the viewer can enter one of two fields to bring back the relevant info, in this case either a designer or price range option. I've not done one of these before, but think it would be useful on my site! advice appreciated, thanks!!

First off, this forum seems great! I've been stressing over this for a while now and hope someone can point me in the right direction... I'm not looking for a freebie, just some guiding light.

I'm making a homepage for myself, and to avoid visiting a thousand search engine sites individually I'd like to make my own drop down menu to search from.

I have it set up with a text box, drop down menu and a submit button... I'd like to be able to enter my text, select the search engine I'd like to use and then click submit and have a new window open with the search engine site and the search results (pretty much cut out the search engine main pages)...

Has anyone done this? Any info will be greatly appreciated... Thanks! Jim.

Another idea that I've had is to be able to select multiple search engine and have multiple windows open up... Save some time... Anyhow, Thanks so much...

Hi guys,

Have a question regarding searching on a page. Basically I have a tabbed content section for our intrasite - Currently, our setup is a knowledge base derived from Lotus Notes - We are moving out of that and I'm making an HTML driven database - My boss won't approve MySQL, he want's to use access, but we aren't at that point yet.

What we are shooting for is for our employees to be able to hit CTRL-F and type in a string of data (within the tabs) and have it open the tab (shift if necessary) and highlight the string listed.

Currently I have the following files created - but I'm not sure how to make it searchable. Is this possible? or is there another way of going about doing this? Thanks!

Need Help With Multiple Option Search Form

I am trying to create a FORM with multiple option radio buttons. Basically this is a ready script I found on the internet. I have tried to customize it but there is a slight problem which I have been unable to fix after a lot of tries.

In the below code, I am trying to open the following URLs on submit.

http://www.pixmac.com/pictures/"searchterms"?a=kcalpesh
http://www.crestock.com/image-keyword/"searchterms".aspx/112582/

In both the URLs the "searchterms" is dynamic and will be picked from the input box present in the form.

PROBLEM PART!

On submission, the URL that opens is only up to http://www.pixmac.com/pictures/"searchterms" and the affiliate ID after that gets missed.

Same with the other URL on submission, the URL that opens is http://www.crestock.com/image-keyword/"searchterms" and again the affiliate ID gets missed out.

Below is the complete page code for the FORM. Any help will be highly appreciated.

I am not a coder and have very limited knowledge of HTML / Javascript!!

Hey all, I've been looking all over the net for a tutorail about this, but I can't seem to find one.

What I'm trying to do is make a drop-down box where you can select an option, press a submit button, and it'll open up a new window *or tab for firefox users* pertaining to that information, such as a site that I choose to link to it. This is the code I'm using for my option box

Hello Everyone,

I have two pairs of jsp + servlet. The first jsp asks user to select an option from the drop down box and then on the click of submit button, passes this info to another servlet, who processes the data from db based on the input and displays the requested data in a table using second jsp page.

My code is working but I'm trying to make my code look more appealing.

Here is what the problem is:
1. The first page just has two drop down boxes with rest of the page blank.
2. Once the user selects the choice from first page, second page is displayed which does not anymore display what user chose in the drop down.

What I want:
is that initially the first page contains only drop down but as soon as the user hits the submit button, instead of loading a whole new page, the requested data is displayed right below the drop down boxes.

Will this require to combine two jsp pages into one.....if yes, how do I make the table disappear the first time until some input is chosen.

I know this is very basic html but as this is my first time, will appreciate the help.

Hi All,
I was told to correct some basic mistakes and if I still needed help, to ask for help.

Well, 1 month later I was able to correct some errors and now 5 from the 8 Options Choices are working. NEED HELP WITH THE DEFAULT/WHEN TYPING THE URL AND 2 MORE OPTIONS WHICH DOESN'T WORK.

I am a beginner, so I believe that the intermediates and experts can help me.

The site works fine from here, since it filter errors. Actually it works with all browsers except Internet explorer 7-9.

Hey all,
New to the forum here, looks like a great place! Anyhow, need some help / direction. I've been given the task to create an intranet search engine at work, but the level of coding is a bit over my head, so any help would be much appreciated.

Long story short - I need to make a search with drop downs and I can't figure out how to make all three drop downs dictate what is searched for. Take a look at the two drop down set up KBB has for an idea of what I mean: http://www.kbb.com/kbb/NewCars/defau...=41&ModelId=23. I'm pretty sure this can all be done in HTML, but if I'm wrong tell me.

Can anyone help on this or atleast point me in the right direction? Thanks a bunch!

this gives me 3 drop down box's (YEAR,MONTH,DAY)

The problem is when i click search it only searches for the year. instead of combining all the selected data (e.g. 1996+JUN+23) it just searched for 1996.

The second problem is if someone managed to get this form to work, would it search for "1996JUN23" or "1996 JUN 23". The reason i ask this is my products descriptions say "this single was released on 23 June 1996"

I hope ive made all the above clear!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) rim size,
2)brand
3)offset
4)bolt pattern.

but they dont have to have all 4 criterias to seach so they can search all the 20 inch rims no matter what brand. i was thinking this is something similar to the one on cardomain.com (towards the middle of the left side. it says browse community and then has 2 boxes and a go button).

So I'd like to have a 160*600 box with hyperlinks displaying only a headlines I select. I would like the bottom of the box to have arrows for navigating between sections of links that fit in the box with a place to enter a page number in between them. I would like it to begin with displaying the most recently posted links starting on the last page number with that being the first page it displays.

I want the bottom of the box to include below the browsing chronological browsing feature an arrow facing left with the word "search" that would open a box with a place to type in text for it to search link headlines. At the bottom of the search box I would like an arrow facing down with the words "search by label". Yes, I would like to not only select a headline for each link but also categorically label them.

If I could also select images for it to automatically fill the empty space with when a new page number is started that would be great, even better if it selects ones that fill the most depending on how long the headlines are. If it repeated headlines in extra page space instead of showing images that would be cool too.

I'd also like it to automatically expand in height past 160*600 to make a new page number just for a headline that doesn't fit in 160*600.

Hey guys, I need help making a drop down menu.

I know how to make a basic one, but this is what I need...

I want to have 4 drop down menus, with about 4 choices in each one.

Under them I need a 'Submit" button.

Basically, I need it so that any combination of the 4 choices in the 4 menus will open a specific page.

For instance, lets say in menu 1 I pick the word "cat". In menu 2, I pick the word "dog". In menu 3 I pick the word "car". In menu 4 I pick the word "tree".

Once I click submit, a page with a picture of a cat, dog, tree and car would open up. (I would provide all the possible different pictures).

So how would one do this?

I have the following drop down menu.

Here is a screen capture of what the menu looks like. It's at this point I want no action to take place when "go" is clicked. As it is now (above code) it refreshes current page.

My question is how do I change this so that the first "option" has no action when chosen and then "go" is clicked. As is is right now it refreshes the current page being that between the quotes <option value=" HERE ">title of menu</option> there isn't a link because I don't want this option to do anything. Basically when the drop down menu shows "title of menu" and I click on "go" I want nothing to happen instead of a refresh.
