HTML - Basic Html Problem
I have started making a simple website with notepad which me and my friend could use. I've got a bit of a problem though. I know basic HTML but don't know how to get around this:
In the folder I have two files: Lauch(Which opens the website), and a folder called Pages. In the folder 'Pages' I want the other pages for the website, but as his system would have different names, I can't exactly put: C:\My Files\HH Tool, if his is C:\His Files. Get me? I tried linking to: \Pages\Information.html . But it didn't work. I'd appreciate and answer ASAP. Thanks for whoever replies or answers. I have created a very basic page for practice(the code is below) using text edit on a macbook. The file is saved with the .html extension. The problem lies in when i try to load the page with a browser(i have tried both safari and firefox), i double click it and the browser opens the file, but it looks exactly like the source file. It shows all the tags and everything that is written in the source code. I have been trying to figure out what i have done wrong for hours now, have tried all the variations of 'doctype' tags and none fixed the problem, have also tried it without a 'doctype' tag and same thing happened. Can someone please look at the source below and give me any help possible? I am very new to this, so maybe it will make complete sense to someone out there. Thanks a lot in advance. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>Title</title> </head> <body> <h1>Header</h1> <br> <p>Paragraph contents will go here.</p> </body> </html> Hi I am trying to add some custom text below a frameset. Basically can anyone add just a simple header below the frameset in the following code> Code: <html> <frameset cols="25%,*,25%"> <frame src="frame_a.htm" /> <frame src="frame_b.htm" /> <frame src="frame_c.htm" /> </frameset> </html> The code comes from this page: http://www.w3schools.com/tags/tryit....tml_frame_cols and I've tried the usual ways of adding a body tag and added a h2 tag below it, but i can't get it to work - either i can get the h2 tag to appear or the frameset. Can anyone help? Thanks hi, i have just decided to make my own web site! Please could you tell me some bacis things like marquee effects etc. Many thanks , Hey there! I'm new to this! I just started learning HTML like week ago and I doing pretty good. but anyways, I was wondering how long does it take to learn HTML, XHTML, CSS and so on to create a social networking like facebook at least? HI, im trying to self learn HTML, things were going ok until i get to FRAMES. I have an INDEX.HTML, which splits the page into 3 frames. Each of the 3 frames then load other pages(banner, main, and menu .HTML). I have my 3 frames, but there is nothing in then, I think its the path I have wrong, but tryed main alternatives. This is a very basic problem, im sure someone can tell me what ive done wrong. Of course im loading these HTML pages from the same folder on my desktop. HTML files attached.. Thanks in aDvance! Hi, newbie here, Say i have a table how do i set the margin on each side, probably without setting the table width, so by setting the margins the table automatically sizes itself to the width of the page -(minus) the width of the margins at each side? I think you can do this in css but i want to learn html first, what is the best way of doing this, so this code below gives a table of no width and height... HTML Code: <table> <tbody> <tr> <td></td> </tr> </tbody> </table> This is what i want, and thanks for any help, Hi I need some help please. I am very un-educted person when it comes to anything www related but could design a bridge from scratch....: I have selected view source from a website and had a look at the HTML that makes it all tick. I have changed a few things (text size and colour) and would like to preview it and see if I have managed to change anything and see if I understand the basics of html. My problem is I copied the source file and pasted in into word from where I changed it. Can one preview the site with any word function or would I require other software?? When I select the "webpage preview" it still comes in html formatt. Could someone please explain (IN PLAIN ENGLISH) how to go about this..... Thanks Can any one tell me that what is the basic difference between html and xhtml? I have done a lot of stuff already, but I have a question if what I want to do in the diagram below is possible just with HTML. It is basically pretty simple, except that I can't seem to get the code to work to make only part of a page (specified area/rectangle) a certain background color or image and then still be able to embed a couple image URL's (buttons) on top of it, as well as formatted text I choose. Does it have something to do with using <div> code? If I can get the images (as buttons) mounted against that area/rectangle, I'm pretty sure I know how to make them hot links to another site. However, the final kicker is I want the buttons to be a default image normally, but then switch to another image of the same size when someone mouses over it, and that when clicked is also the hot link to the URL . That is the part I know little about. Is anyone here genius enough to just look at my diagram and write me the code, and just substitute generic values for where I'd put the specific image URL's, text formatting and parameters I specify? I hope this diagram helps, thanks a lot to anyone who can do this for me!!! Can anyone recommend a good tutorial site for learning HTML? I'm just starting out. Free is good, but I know you get what you pay for, so if the tutorials are good, I wouldn't mind paying for something of good quality. I don't want to get in over my head too soon and get discouraged. I'd really like to find some video tutorials. Thanks. Can someone please help me? How do I move the entire image up on following index page: www.AndyG.com Note that there is a one inch gap between top of computer screen and top of image...I just want to move image way up to top... Thanks a lot! Andy I need a basic form to submit for a html web page. Can you provide one with a two seperate fields, one text area, and a submit button? Thanks Hi, i am developing an embedded webserver on a microcontroller to perform low level hardware monitoring. My webserver got the GET, HEAD and POST methods. I need to moniotor some inputs of the microcontroller. For now i am using a GET method to every 200ms to check its status and the server retreive the information of the inputs. Thats is consuming too much of my band as i have to constantly poll the line with GET. Is there any possibility to creeat a webpage where a webserver can update some data (without reloading the whole page) when the webserver wants and with no need of some request from the webpage? Inside the microcontroller side this is kind easy to perform with interruputs. But i dont know how to implement that on a WebPage. Thank you Hi Guys on this page www.thepullmanlodge.co.uk/weddings.htm the top 3 pictures are meant to slideshow into each other. When I preview the site in frontpage it works, but now I've uploaded it online it won't work and just shows the three pictures in a block. Can anyone help me get this working as it should? Thanks alot John Okay, it was all working great until I wanted to add another column to make the center logo clickable. Now I am having the problems with the little images being slightly out of alignment again. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I checked the source code and this changes color: <? echo "<p> While everything else remains black and is displayed. I tried putting a </p> at the end and it reads it and sends everything after that to another line but it stills displays it. I also tried <h1> and others, everything time i open < and close> it stops reading and just displays everything after the > Simple ' instead of " don't change anything either. Any help or advice is appreciated. I want some links to be different colors than others. I tried making a new class and the new links are now colored perfectly, but even though the links changes to the correct color when hovered over, it doesn't actually link... The arrow doesn't turn into a hand to click, it just changes colors, all be it correctly... I know this is very basic and i'm missing something very obvious. I had the standard a class links, and I created a 2nd class called c2... Here's what I have in my css siheet... Code: a, a:visited { color: #a8a2ee; text-decoration: none; } a:hover { color: #ff0000; text-decoration: none; } a img { border: none; } a:focus, a:hover, a:active { outline: none; } c2, b:visited { color: #ff0000; text-decoration: none; } c2:hover { color: #0c00ff; text-decoration: none; } c2 img { border: none; } c2:focus, c2:hover, c2:active { outline: none; } When I create a link like this... Code: <c2 href="http://itunes.apple.com/" target="_blank">download from iTunes</c2> It does not link... I think it has to be A and maybe have a sub class? I can't call links c2 maybe? So how would I do it? Thanks! |
