HTML - Newbie Gap Problem Ie7/8/firefox - Sample Code
This very simple html is showing differently in IE8 and IE7 and FireFox:
HTML Code: <img src="" style="border-style: solid;" alt="No Pic" /> <table style="border-style: solid;"> <tr> <td> Model Name </td> </tr> </table> With IE8 and FireFox 3.013 there is no gap between the img and table, but in IE7 there's a gap???? (although someone else I asked can see the gap in IE8 but not FireFox) Similar TutorialsCan anyone explain the rule to me which is governing this behaviour: If you move the attribute style="float: left;" from one table to the other it affects the way the whole div renders. With the attribute, there is no silver background, without it the div renders across the whole page with a silver background. Why would floating a table within the div affect whether the div renders with or without a background colour? HTML Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Untitled Page </title> <style type="text/css"> .ItemFill { background-color: Silver; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="ItemFill"> <table style="float: left;"> <tr> <td> Hello World </td> </tr> </table> </div> <br /> <div class="ItemFill"> <table > <tr> <td> Hello Two </td> </tr> </table> </div> </body> </html> I have been trying to make a web page with a table that will let you put some small amount of text in it. I want the table to be fixed where it will be locked down so the frames don't move in the table. I plan on hooking php echo statement to it and I don't want the table frames to move. Is there a place on the internet where I can find information on this particular topic or subject area? Or can somebody give me some code or something. Chris Hi I'm sure this is simple, but this page http://www.janitorman.net/blueskies/index-1.html shows up OK in IE but not in Firefox. Have I got something wrong? Newbie welcomes some help. I am trying to design a site but everytime i keep gettin an error related to me not closing one of my statements and i jus cannot find it. Wat i will do is paste the code here which is alot (i'm sorry) but any help at all would be great. Thank you in advance, anyone. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="en-us" /> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; I have created a website using Dreamweaver and uploaded the pages to my hosting company - 123-reg.co.uk. The problem I am having is the code I have created in Dreamweaver for the Title tag is not showing in the code of the uploaded page. I guess the software being used to upload is altering it...? Anyway, I have tried going in to edit the uploaded page via the platform/portal 123-reg provide but although the code adds in a page title upon saving and exiting, the next time I go to view or edit the code, it is no longer there!? If I edit anything else on the page and not add that code in every time, the title will disappear when the page is next loaded in a browser...! The code I am pasting in is this: <html> <HEAD> <TITLE>INSERT TITLE TEXT HERE</TITLE> </HEAD> The rest of the code is he http://www.eveinteriors.co.uk/Children.htm Please help, it's really frustrating and 123-reg "support" are telling me it's a coding issue and they can't help....what am I doing wrong!? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Pete Hi, I'm a total newb. I'm trying to help someone build a basic site. The problem I'm having at the moment is that I don't understand why there is a large gap at the bottom of this page underneath the background image? I want the page to only be able to scroll down as far as the bottom of the background image (1200px from the top) Here is the page: http://helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/about_helen.html Here is the code for the page: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="doctitle" --> <title>Helen Stow - Chartered Psychologist</title> <!-- TemplateEndEditable --> <!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="head" --> <!-- TemplateEndEditable --> <link href="oneColFixCtr.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <style type="text/css"> <!-- body { background-image: url(images/Background_Image.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat; } --> </style></head> <body class="oneColFixCtr"> <div style="text-align:center; width:896px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto;"></div> <div style="text-align:center; width:840px; margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto; height: 1200px;"> <img src="images/Background_Image_Bottom.gif" alt="" width="840" height="352" hspace="1" vspace="628" border="0" align="top center" usemap="#Image-Maps_6201103231219146" id="Image-Maps_6201103231219146" /> <map id="_Image-Maps_6201103231219146" name="Image-Maps_6201103231219146"> <area shape="rect" coords="736,244,818,326" href="mailto:helenstowcpsychol@btinternet.com" alt="Email Me: helenstowcpsychol@btinternet.com" title="Email Me: helenstowcpsychol@btinternet.com" /> <area shape="rect" coords="172,244,290,326" href="http://www.bps.org.uk/" alt="http://www.bps.org.uk/" title="http://www.bps.org.uk/" /> <area shape="rect" coords="34,245,152,327" href="http://www.hpc-uk.org/" alt="http://www.hpc-uk.org/" title="http://www.hpc-uk.org/" /> <area shape="rect" coords="638,7,818,27" href="http://helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/about_helen.html" alt="About Helen" title="About Helen" /> <area shape="rect" coords="586,47,816,67" href="http://helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/services.html" alt="Services" title="Services" /> <area shape="rect" coords="526,87,816,107" href="http://helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/appts_fees.html" alt="Appointments/Fees" title="Appointments/Fees" /> <area shape="rect" coords="475,128,817,148" href="http://helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/faqs.html" alt="FAQs" title="FAQs" /> <area shape="rect" coords="422,166,816,186" href="http://helenstow-cpsychol.co.uk/links.html" alt="Links" title="Links" /> </map> </div> </body> </html> The other thing that I don't understand (but is of lesser importance) is why the 'image map' section of the page doesn't quite line up (horizontally) with the background image at certain magnifications (100%, 150%) but seems ok at others (125%, 200%)?? Would be really grateful for any help. Best Wishes, Tom how come i cant get my site to look the same in both browsers, im setting the margin, so the browser know then it changes between ie and firefox ie renders it how i want www.mynightclubs.co.uk css www.mynightclubs.co.uk/css/main.css Hi All, im new here so go easy. this might be an easy answer. i am making this website and am positioning items around the site using div tags. the site looks just how i want it to in Firefox but when i open it in IE it has different sizes everywhere and does not match up. also i have a logo in the upper right of the site. how do i get this to resize when the browser size is changed? here is the sites code. <html> <head> <title>Maroondah Trailers</title> </head> <body BGCOLOR="807a7a"> <div style="background-image:url('pictures/bg.gif'); background-repeat: repeat; position: absolute; left: 0%; top: 0%; width: 16%; height: 97%;"></div> <div style="background-image:url('pictures/bg.gif'); background-repeat: repeat; position: absolute; left: 84%; top: 0px; width: 16%; height: 97%;"></div> <div style="background-color: White; position: absolute; left: 16%; top: 15%; width: 68%; height: 82%;"></div> <div style="background-color: ff3600; color: white; position: absolute; left: 16%; top: 15%; width: 68%; height: 4%;"></div> <div style="position: absolute; left: 60%; top: 3%; width: 30%; height: 40%;"><img src="pictures\logo2.gif"></div> <div style="background-color: black; position: absolute; left: 84%; top: 0%; width: .2%; height: 97%;"></div> <div style="background-color: black; position: absolute; left: 16%; top: 0%; width: .2%; height: 97%;"></div> <div style="background-color: black; position: absolute; left: 0%; top: 97%; width: 100%; height: .2%;"></div> <div style="background-color: black; position: absolute; left: 0%; top: 97%; width: 100%; height: .2%;"></div> <div style="background-color: black; position: absolute; left: 16%; top: 15%; width: 68%; height: .2%;"></div> <div style="background-color: black; position: absolute; left: 16%; top: 19%; width: 68%; height: .3%;"></div> </body> </html> heres what they both look like thanks alot Matt firefox ie what am i missing in the css to make firefox look like ie thanks Hi Guys. I have to start by saying I am considered a newbie when it comes to html so please bear with me. Here is where I am having the problem: http://www.fbdopewars.com/eddie/print.html As you all can see the images have spaces around them. Now this was all written in notepad so I need specific assitance in the html code. My dillema is 2 things: Why does my page have these horrible gaps between the images even though I THINK I entered it all right? Is there a more efficient way to write the code then what I am currently doing and how compatible is it on cross-browser (This is mostly experimental so I dont mind hacking it up and starting again). Thanks in advance for your time and help! I have been experimenting with a new page setup and I've got a problem I just can't figure out. Anyway, I have an image mapped for navigation on the left-hand side of the page/table. It seems to work fine and everything is fine up to this point. Now I am trying to add another navigational map to the image at the top of my page and when I code it, the map seems to work fine, but either the images or the table gets thrown off and I just can't figure out why it's doing it or how to fix it. The code for the top image map is as follows: <body bgcolor="#000000" text="000000" topmargin="0" leftmargin="0"> <div align="center"> <table border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" width="600" height="770"> <tr> <td width="600" height="150" colspan="3"> <img src="http://vance.thebams.org/junk/images/new images/topbg.jpg" usemap="#topmap" border="0"></td> <map id="topmap" name="topmap"> <area shape="rect" coords="51,98,107,119" href="index.html"/> <area shape="rect" coords="121,99,218,119" href="bookkeeping.html"/> <area shape="rect" coords="232,99,357,119" href="payroll.html"/> <area shape="rect" coords="371,99,457,119" href="web.html"/> <area shape="rect" coords="474,98,607,119" href="personal.html"/> <area shape="rect" coords="621,98,710,119" href="contact.html"/> </map> </tr> The page that shows exactly how I want the page to look without the map at the top of the page can be seen here. When I add the image map at the top of the page it ends up looking like this. You'll notice that the area around the pen's tip is off. If anyone has any suggestions as to what I did wrong and how to fix it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, Vance I am a newby. I am using a Wordpress theme. "Sample Page" tab is invisible. When you mouse over it the words "Sample Page" shows up. How do I fix this? I do know how to add code and have searched through the html to change words that I did not like. That is all I can do with html. I think I can fix this problem if I knew what to do and where. I tried to find the answer to this in html tutorials without success. My blog is here http://www.yourmlmmarketingadvisor.com The "Sample Page" tab is located in the upper left portion of the blog just above and to the left of the word Successful Please help if you can. I've been through hundreds of themes and this is the only one I've liked. I don't want to change it.... Thanks Tons..... Would anyone have any idea why the following HTML works perfectly with Firefox but not with IE: <IMG src="http://cash2u2c.ipower.com//Photos/Map3.jpg><align=center> (i.e. the map displays perfectly with the Firefox browser but does not display with Internet Explorer) Thank you for your time. I have designed this HTML home page with a table and it is coming up different in IE8 and Firefox but comes in fine with Safari and Chrome. The navigation area labeled "testing" in navy blue should have a width that reaches from each side. When opening in IE8 or Firefox, it comes up short and I cannot figure this out. Can someone look at this simple code and tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks, Tim http://www.clickgraphicsonline.com/p...ar/index3.html This is for a myspace layout (yes i know those are dreaded words to any web developer) . As the title says it works fine on firefox but hangs up severely on IE This is the only block of code i've added. If anyone can help i would appreciate it greatly! <style type="text/css">body{background-image:url("http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y146/RyanVessell/myspacebg-1.jpg"); padding-top: 625px; background-attachment:fixed; background-repeat:repeat; background-position: center; }table, tr, td {background-color:transparent; border: 0px; padding:2; }</style> <style type="text/css"> table table tbody tr td { background-image:url(http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/b.../tablebg.png); background-position:top left; background-repeat:repeat; padding: 2px; } </style> <style type="text/css"> td, a, body, table,p {font-family:Verdana; font-size:10pt; color:4f4f4f;} .blacktext10{color:b30000;} .blacktext12{color:b30000} .btext{color:white} .lightbluetext8{color:6f6f6f} .nametext{color:b5b5b5} table tr td font strong { color: ffffff; } .orangetext15{color:890303} .redbtext{color:silver;} .redbtext12{color:b30000;} .redtext{color:b30000;} .redtext8{color:white;} .text{color:890303;} .whitetext12{color:620202;} .redlink{color:890303;} .headlinetext{color:ffffff;} a:link{color:ffffff} a:hover{color:b80000} a.navbar{color:b30000;} a.navbar:link{color:7b7b7b} a.navbar:hover{color:620202} a.redlink:link{color:7b7b7b} a.redlink:hover{color:620202} a.searchlinksmall{color:FF4500} a.searchlinksmall:link{color:ADD8E6} a.searchlinksmall:hover{colorAA520} </style> <style type="text/css"> .contactTable { width:300px !important; height:150px !important; padding:0px !important; background-image: url(http://www.corvuscreative.net/images/contacttable.jpg); background-attachment:scroll; background-position:center center; background-repeat:no-repeat; background-color:transparent;} .contactTable table, table.contactTable td { padding:0px !important; border:0px; background-color:transparent; background-image:none;} .contactTable a img {visibility:hidden; border:0px !important;} .contactTable a {display:block; height:28px; width:115px;} .contactTable .text {font-size:1px !important;} .contactTable .text, .contactTable a, .contactTable img {filter:none !important;} </style> Hi, I ran a code validation on my site (www.improvizations.com), it came back with 11 errors. Also, my site looks fine in IE but awful in Firefox. What's going on? Any help would be greatly appriciated. I'm a newbie with all of this. Thanks!! Hi, I'm just learning html and I'm creating my website in Frontpage 2003. I looked in IE6 and my individual pages are exactly how I want them to look. However, viewing the same pages in Firefox presents me with a problem I'm not sure how to correct. It has to do with the center table. I originally copied and pasted the contents from Excel into the table (which I think was a mistake now). My workaround to this was copying and pasting the contents in the table into Notepad; and also shortening the length of each line; and then re-pasting the contents back into the table. It looks o.k. in Firefox but the alignment is no longer "justified". Can someone please tell me what I should be doing in the html code here? To see what I mean please open the link below in both IE and Firefox. http://www.prosperityteachers.com/ne...ew_thought.htm Much appreciated! Here is the code: EDIT: I missed part of the code: <id class = "vision"> CLEAN is founded </class>on the belief that education is the essential foundation for global climate change solutions. CLEAN is a program designed to supplement existing elementary (1st-8th grade) science education. First, children learn the fundamental scientific background they need in order to understand global climate change. Second, CLEAN provides them with the tools and support they need to take positive action. Particular emphasis is placed on climate change as a concern that is not only individual and local, but equally collective and global. This emphasis is supported through the development of communication and collaboration between classrooms locally and internationally. The problems presented by global climate change can seem overwhelming, often leading to apathy and inaction. By combining practical information with a fun, engaging, play-based learning environment, CLEAN fosters a positive attitude that empowers children to take meaningful action. and the "Vision" code in my css is very simple: .vision { font: bold 25px Tahoma, 'trebuchet MS', Sans-serif; } In firefox it renders like this: while here it is in Explorer: Why the difference and how do I fix it? I have read that Microsoft doesn't follow the "rules" established by the web boards about how code should be done. Is this the problem in this case? Thanks!
