This very simple html is showing differently in IE8 and IE7 and FireFox:

With IE8 and FireFox 3.013 there is no gap between the img and table, but in IE7 there's a gap????
(although someone else I asked can see the gap in IE8 but not FireFox)

Can anyone explain the rule to me which is governing this behaviour:
If you move the attribute style="float: left;" from one table to the other it affects the way the whole div renders. With the attribute, there is no silver background, without it the div renders across the whole page with a silver background.
Why would floating a table within the div affect whether the div renders with or without a background colour?

I have been trying to make a web page with a table that will let you put some small amount of text in it. I want the table to be fixed where it will be locked down so the frames don't move in the table. I plan on hooking php echo statement to it and I don't want the table frames to move. Is there a place on the internet where I can find information on this particular topic or subject area? Or can somebody give me some code or something.

Hi, I hope someone won't mind helping w/ this: this code will not display and I can't understand why? It's short, please help me out? Newbie Code Disappearing - Please Help!

Hello all,
I'm a bit new to this so please forgive my obvious mistakes...

I have created a website using Dreamweaver and uploaded the pages to my hosting company - 123-reg.co.uk.

The problem I am having is the code I have created in Dreamweaver for the Title tag is not showing in the code of the uploaded page. I guess the software being used to upload is altering it...?
Anyway, I have tried going in to edit the uploaded page via the platform/portal 123-reg provide but although the code adds in a page title upon saving and exiting, the next time I go to view or edit the code, it is no longer there!? If I edit anything else on the page and not add that code in every time, the title will disappear when the page is next loaded in a browser...!

The other thing that I don't understand (but is of lesser importance) is why the 'image map' section of the page doesn't quite line up (horizontally) with the background image at certain magnifications (100%, 150%) but seems ok at others (125%, 200%)??

Hi All,

im new here so go easy. this might be an easy answer. i am making this website and am positioning items around the site using div tags. the site looks just how i want it to in Firefox but when i open it in IE it has different sizes everywhere and does not match up.

also i have a logo in the upper right of the site. how do i get this to resize when the browser size is changed?

Hi Guys. I have to start by saying I am considered a newbie when it comes to html so please bear with me. Here is where I am having the problem:

As you all can see the images have spaces around them. Now this was all written in notepad so I need specific assitance in the html code.

My dillema is 2 things:

Why does my page have these horrible gaps between the images even though I THINK I entered it all right?

Is there a more efficient way to write the code then what I am currently doing and how compatible is it on cross-browser (This is mostly experimental so I dont mind hacking it up and starting again).

Newbie's Problem With Image Mapping

I have been experimenting with a new page setup and I've got a problem I just can't figure out. Anyway, I have an image mapped for navigation on the left-hand side of the page/table. It seems to work fine and everything is fine up to this point.

Now I am trying to add another navigational map to the image at the top of my page and when I code it, the map seems to work fine, but either the images or the table gets thrown off and I just can't figure out why it's doing it or how to fix it.

When I add the image map at the top of the page it ends up looking like this.

You'll notice that the area around the pen's tip is off.

Can't See "sample Page" Tab Excet When You Mouse Over It

I am a newby. I am using a Wordpress theme. "Sample Page" tab is invisible. When you mouse over it the words "Sample Page" shows up.

How do I fix this?

I do know how to add code and have searched through the html to change words that I did not like. That is all I can do with html. I think I can fix this problem if I knew what to do and where. I tried to find the answer to this in html tutorials without success.

Hi,

I ran a code validation on my site (www.improvizations.com), it came back with 11 errors. Many of them look like this:

Line 9, Column 31: there is no attribute "leftmargin".
<body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginwidth="0" rightmargin ="0" marginheight

and this:

Line 15, Column 43: required attribute "alt" not specified.
<div id="logo"><img src="images\logo.gif" /></div>

How do I fix this?

Also, my site looks fine in IE but awful in Firefox. What's going on? Any help would be greatly appriciated. I'm a newbie with all of this. Thanks!!

Hi, I'm just learning html and I'm creating my website in Frontpage 2003. I looked in IE6 and my individual pages are exactly how I want them to look. However, viewing the same pages in Firefox presents me with a problem I'm not sure how to correct. It has to do with the center table. I originally copied and pasted the contents from Excel into the table (which I think was a mistake now). My workaround to this was copying and pasting the contents in the table into Notepad; and also shortening the length of each line; and then re-pasting the contents back into the table. It looks o.k. in Firefox but the alignment is no longer "justified". Can someone please tell me what I should be doing in the html code here? Why the difference and how do I fix it? I have read that Microsoft doesn't follow the "rules" established by the web boards about how code should be done. Is this the problem in this case? Thanks!

Hi,

Ive got a bit of a problem with the website im creating. This is the bit of code thats affecting the browser (I believe).

For some reason It works perfectly in safari, but not in IE or firefox. I wont post all the source code here as there is quite alot, but the website is alesofdevon.com/betatest/mysql.php?id=1 if you need anymore info from it.
