HTML - Css Rules Not Showing Up Live?
Similar TutorialsGreetings all, i have a site that i've tested on my servers, and everything looks great in IE, FF, Eudora, etc... but then when i post it to the client's server, it appears fine in IE, but in FF (through Netscape), it gets these funny characters everywhere (see attached). Like 'A's w/ carats over them at the spaces and such... i don't know if this is something correctable in my code, or if it's a difference in hosting environments. Any insight would be greatly appreciated... and just for reference, this is the encoding at the top of each page in case it matters: Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8" /> TIA ok im building a website for xbox live game Project gotham racing 4 i want to build a league for the game on my website so when people racing it will add points to the league i would like it targeted only to the people that use the website and not the entire world any one point be in the right direct or help me out with this www.forumsg.co.uk Hi, I'm having a basic problem with a HTML table. It displays exactly how I want on Firefox 3.5.15 but on Internet Explorer 8 is does not. Can anyone point out what I need to do to get this table displaying in IE as it does in Firefox? Below is my HTML table and I suspect IE 8 is ignoring 'rules = rows'; <?php echo '<TABLE bordercolor=#000000 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=10 border=0 rules=rows frame=box width="90%">'."\n"; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td><B><font size=1>Test Name</font></B></td><td><B><font size=1>Date</font></B></td><td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td><font size=1>Test Number 1</font></td><td><font size=1>01/01/2010</font></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td><font size=1>Test Number 2</font></td><td><font size=1>02/01/2010</font></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td><font size=1>Test Number 3</font></td><td><font size=1>03/01/2010</font></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td><font size=1>Test Number 4</font></td><td><font size=1>04/01/2010</font></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '<td><font size=1>Test Number 5</font></td><td><font size=1>05/01/2010</font></td>'; echo '</tr>'; echo '<tr>'; echo '</TABLE>'."\n"."\n"; ?> Thanks! YAY SOLVED THANKS TO COOTHEAD This thing is driving me nuts... over the last 36 hours i, along with a helpfull member of this community have been trying to fix some SIMPLE code that wasnt broken in the first place. It displays fine, when tested in Dreamweaver, tests fine in IE, FF. The several adjusted codes even display fine inside the test previewer of the mail program on www.yourmailinglistprovider.com ! The trouble starts when the email HTML code gets sent to the Gmail & Hotmail inbox. Both my inbox' are stuffed with test mails.. and it isnt going to end any time soon I have CODE 2 that wont load up the CSS image tags. And CODE 1 that wont display the text in its right position, not on top of the image, instead it shows it way down, like so: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/2625/frustration.jpg So finally... i discovered, why.. the Gods have put me in this misfortune. Google Mail is in BETA, and that means the following: Quote: Google Mail, LotusNotes, and Outlook 2007 present special coding problems. The good news? If you code to account for their oddities, your html email code is more likely to display well in most if not all email software. Because Google cannot control how senders will code CSS and HTML, they have to take steps to ensure their application displays properly regardless of the code quality of the html email that is displayed. As a result, Google Mail acts like an artifact of the mid 1990s when web standards were primitive. It takes some work, but it is possible to crack open a Google Mail page and see just how convoluted their approach is to rendering html email. For one thing, Google Mail deletes any CSS style reference to a set of styles, no matter where it appears in the email. And fonts displayed in html tables have the odd habit of appearing larger than intended no matter how the html email is coded. &#^&%$@3(*(2@#*&y#!!............................. Why Now all my work ive put into this could be all for nothing,.. since I believe the solution given by the website is too far fetched for this amateur. The solution: Quote: Here are coding techniques that appear to work well in Google Mail and older email softwa * Define the background color in a TD cell with bgcolor=, not the CSS style. * Use the background= attribute in the TD cell for background images, not the CSS. A corollary is that the background image can be made as tall as needed. If the content of an email template might be short or tall depending on the email content, using an extra-tall background image this way lets the email layout height shrink or expand based on the height of the copy from one email to the next. Note, however, that Outlook 2007 ignores background images. * If it works better, use the padding style to control margins within a TD cell. The margin style does not work in these cells. Padding does work. * If a border around a TD cell is needed, Google Mail displays a border when defined in a DIV but not when defined as a border style in a TD tag. * If a light colored link against a dark background color is needed, put the font definition in the TD cell (so it applies to P and A tags equally) then add a color= style to the A tag. * If the P and A fonts appear to be different sizes, wrap the A tag in a P tag. * Google Mail aggressively uses the right column of their interface which squeezes the html email into the center panel. Be sure the padding style in the content TDs is set at 10 pixels all round so text does not smash against the left and right edges. * When testing an html email with a Google Mail account, it is likely one or more missing font styles in the TD, H1, H2, P, A, and other tags will be found. Inspect every font carefully to make sure Google Mail displays the fonts correctly. SOURCE I need either of these two amateuristic codes (they are basically the same) re-coded with the rules up above. Could anyone who can do this fluently without breaking a sweat help me out? I am near desperation and willing to transfer a fee to whatever paypal account. I just need this mail template sent out asap. Thank you for reading. Hi. I'm trying to replicate an old app that used to be in the App Store. It let you log into xbox.com, and take your friends list and various other info, and put a nice interface over it. Right now I'm having real trouble even logging into xbox.com, or live.login.com. You can see my webapp here. For some reason it doesn't work. I even tried using all the HTML which doesn't seem to work either. Does anybody know how to fix this, OR another way to login to xbox.com to get the info. Thanks. Please can someone help, I am looking at designing a new website for my rugby club and wanted to put a league table that auto updates as the Rugby football union page up date for example the Page is :http://www.rfu.com/FixturesAndResult...oupID=70002199 and all i want is to paste the table on my front page so that when they update the league table it will show the uptodate table and not need me to update it each week Hope you can help James Hi I've been reading and searching through here for a while now, but this is my first actual post, so go easy on me, won't you I have a history web site of my own which has been undergoing some upgrade work recently, and I'd like to add a couple of features that I've seen on the BBC home page at www.bbc.co.uk. Specifically, I'd like to be able to show on my home page the last three searches that were conducted through my search engine, and perhaps something else, such as showing the most-read page on the site, as a kind of encouragement to new visitors to go and have a look. Unfortunately, although I can manage with html and css, I'm no programmer, so anything beyond those two needs to carry clear instructions before I can make it work. Does anyone have any leads on producing this kind of stuff? Any help would (probably) be useful! I want to put a simple live clock on my page, but many useful tags are restricted by the host (mocpages.com). MOCpages' documentation on disallowed HTML: http://mocpages.com/help/disallowed_html.php The restricted tags that I know of are <style>, <script>,<object>, <embed>, and <iframe> My URL, http://mocpages.com/home.php/1516, suggests that php may be acceptable as long as it doesn't use the restricted tags. The only other way I know of is to use the <img> tag with a server hosted clock. I have searched the internet and can't find one. If it helps, I can get away with inline css styles, since it isn't the <style> tag. Any other ideas? Anyone know a server hosted clock? hey guys i'm makin a web page for an art project. what steps are needed to set up sort of a live video feed off a web cam? I want to be able to position the webcam feed on the page wherever i want on the page. I'm gonna try to google it some more, but so far nothing great has come up and i just wanted to try some direct advice if anyone knows how. thanks, you guys never disappoint. Hello, im just wondering if someone can help me with a little problem i have, im currently building a website using dreamweaver 8, and i have got a gallery page that when i load the page using the f12 (browse file localy) it shows the page fine with all the pictures, yet when i load the page onto the host and then view the page live it will not show any of the pictures, it does not even mention it cannot pic them up. I have tried both ftp the page to the host and also copied the code from dreamweaver into the hosts site creation tool. The page is not exceeding the hosts limit and i have barely used the memory i am currently paying for. The page is www.grangefarmairsoft.co.uk/031206.html, or the code is: <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>Grange Farm Airsoft</title> <style </html> Please can someone help me, i presume it is just a scripting error on my side as im not a verry good at html. Although i have done both the script and used the user front end to try and make this page, the problem is still there. Final note, the web site is for a combat simulation sport called airsoft, it is a lot like paintballing but uses replica guns that fire rubber pellets at a low velocity which is totaly leagal in the uk (well at the moment), just incase anyone wonders why the pictures are of people with guns. Thanks for any help possible Hi: I have a Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000 webcam mounted on my monitor (for Skype) of my development machine in front of me. I also have my own Apache Server sitting on another Dell desktop beside me, and a Dell Laptop completing the set of three XP Pro machines connected together on my little local intranet. I would like to gently test the waters of live video streaming from my camera thru my local intranet to my Apache server and out into the wide web world ) You folks have already helped me get started in web page design, and my site is now operating very nicely. Now I'd like to add video to my site. I would consider this a startling success if, in a few weeks, I could visit my website and click on a link and see live video of me typing on my keyboard here ) I would appreciate some starting tips please. Software, guidance, hardware, etc Thank you ! -Mel Smlith Hi, I'm hoping you guys can help me. I'm very new to all this so i apologize if my questions seem dumb. I'm starting a new business and selling on Ebay. Instead of doing all my listing in HTML code I'm doing it on Photoshop, then hosting it on Photobucket and then putting the HTML code for it in the Ebay HTML code box etc. This is all fine and works. I'm doing it this way as I know what I'm doing with Photoshop but don't have a clue with HTML tbh. I also need to get it all up and running asap. The problem is I want live links on my listing so that when the text is clicked on, it will take customers to my website, other products etc. Obviously i cant embed the HTML code for the links as its just a jpeg hosted image. Does anyone know a way I can somehow overlay the links over the image using HTML in the Ebay HTML code box? Is there some kind of code to overlay the text over the image, position it accurately and as a live link? Any help or guidance would be really appreciated. Thanks, Chris. i want to display wave height data from a noaa buoy that is available and updated via a txt file. how can display this data graphically on a web site instead of just displaying the raw data from the text file? How do I get rid of my automatic golive meta description and write my own? Here is my current source. <title>Watch It Mister! Following website www.blaizekitchens.co.uk Looks fine in Mozilla But goes horribly wrong in iexplorer Can't work out what the hell is causing this! Can someone please point me in the right direction Cheers Damon Could someone tell me what's involved or suggest a way that I could have a table full of info made up of store names, state/province, address, phone numbers etc. that could instantly be sorted by one of these categories. Hi, We have a large (over)complicated business website - I'm only testing it, so don't have any input to the code (I do have some html experience as I design my own websites, but nothing as complicated as the business one). The live site works OK, but as soon as we work on the test or the live-contingency site, when we click on a link we are taken to the live site, so I think the problem is that the site is using absolute URLs rather than relative ones - I can't see all of them as they are off in the javascript somewhere, and the pages are so complicated I don't fully understand them anyway. As far as I can see the options are - keep it as it is and put up with the fact that we can't test a lot of the functionality (not very good) - build a host file so that we are sent to the correct url (not very good because we're not properly testing the links) - replace all the absolute URLS with relative ones - sounds good, although how we get the developers to rebuild the whole site (3000 pages!) I cannot imagine! Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks all John I have a blogger blog he http://entpalace.blogspot.com As you can see there is a link ad unit right at the bottom of the screen. I want to put that ad link unit underneath the NEWEST post. it has to only go under the newest post automatically. So can you view my website(above) and view the source code, and tell me what adsense code and where i need to put the adsense code. For example, tell me the adsense code, then do i put like this: <meta content='true' name='MSSmartTagsPreventParsing'/> "ADSENSE CODE THAT WILL MAKE THE LINK AD UNITS GO UNDER EACH NEW POST HERE" <meta content='blogger' name='generator'/> I have very limited html experience so i need u to tell me exactly how to do it with my site.
