HTML - Switching From Html To Dreamweaver
Thus far I've used Notepad, vi, and UltraEdit to code websites. However, my client uses Dreamweaver, so I need to build a website that he can easily edit in Dreamweaver.
I am finding out Dreamweaver's "style" little by little, but can anyone here give me a few pointers? For example, I prefer to use div's, not table's, for layout. Is this going to make WYSIWYG editing difficult or buggy for my client? I prefer to use external stylesheets (in a separate .css file). But if my client tries to write new paragraphs with different font-styles, etc., won't Dreamweaver define new internal styles, e.g. "style13" in the <head/> section? Is this just an annoyance I'll have to deal with? Or is there a way to force the client to use the styles and classes I have specified? One thing I'll do for sure is set up his workspace so that the website conforms to HTML 4.01 Strict. That should help a little bit, I think. God help my feeble mind if <font> tags infect my beautiful code. Any tips are well appreciated! Is there any way to store the constant layout components in one file, referenced by each separate page in the site, so I wouldn't need to go through each page to edit the design after I've built it? Put another way, is it possible to use template-style files to apply to HTML pages, without using the Dreamweaver's built-in varieties? I can view the result perfectly in explorer. Now I mailed it to my own mailbox (via explorer) and in outlook (and also in hotmail) the swap image effect doesn't appear.(the second photo is not shown) Is there a possibility to see this in my mailbox? I tried to paste the code into my outlook, but that doesn't work with the regular outlook, I only can view the source, not edit it. Thank you very much in advance! To have multiple images in on folder and each time a user logs in just randomly pick one of the 5 or so automatically so they have a different view each time... Not even sure this is possible. Probably a simple problem, but I can't figure out how to do it. I am designing a site where some of the pages need to be secured via SSL and some don't. I would like to switch between the secure and non-secure pages, but I would like to do it with relative links. Can't remember how I did this the first time: I need some jpg images to go into my images folder. I created a folder for my website on my hard disk (local root folder)...and I defined my site on Dreamweaver, with an image folder....but when I try to add images to the folder, it won't accept them on Dreamweaver. Currently the code represents the lay out of sliced up images for the web banner and some map tags surrounding the locations of where a button would link you to something else. ok, so since i've switched over to Div i felt like there was no more needs for Dreamweaver anymore. Does anyone feel like this? I mean, maybe i just don't know how to use DIV in Dreamweaver, becuase i've been doing it all by hardcoding by hands. becuase when i try to align a div to the right or left, there is no button in the property that lefts me do it, so i have to get into the code and change it. and when i do use it, seems like the only feature to use is "layers" ( i think this "is" div ). so currently i'm thinking that dreamweaver is built for tables. is this correct? Shoot, now i feel like i've spent so much money and now is barely using the program anymore( execpt for the typing tool tip). When you are using dream weaver for a website, do you have to install it onto the server I was going to use it because I think it's a nice layout for HTML coding. Greetings, I am working on a site for my screen printing business. I am momentarily stumped by the way Dreamweaver is displaying my layout. I have set up a standard two column layout with a header and a footer. With that being said, I needed to have two images appear in a precise location in order to blend properly with the background. I therefore used the AP Div from the layout menu. When aligning the image in Dreamweaver, the image is perfect, however, when tested in the browser, it drops down about 50+ pixels. To remedy the situation, I moved the image up to the point that it is covering the text above it, and when tested in the browser, it worked (because I accounted for it shifting down). I am thinking that there is something I'm missing, but I am not sure what. Every once in a while, my brain falls asleep and I can't see the simple error(s) staring me in the eye.
