HTML - What Tools Do You Give Your Clients To Update The Page?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, i have a feeling it is.
So you create a site for a client and that client has to update the page with whatever area they work in, maybe they work in real estate and have a new house on the market to add to the site etc.. Well i could easily write a php script that would add their content to the site, but i can image there could be errors somewhere down the line, what happens then, they phone you up to complan etc...? Basically, I've been making an awful lot of websites lately for final year art students as a portfolio of their work. The majority of them want something extremely simple, typically with a collection of thumbnails linking to larger versions of work, a page of links, an about page etc.. The issue is, unless they're proficient with HTML and FTP, they can't update them that easily by themselves. So, on a hosting package without PHP, what's the best way I can automate the process of them being able to update their sites? Are there any good CMS platforms that don't require PHP? Thanks in advance, Jez Hi: Currently, I'm making my web pages 'by hand'. That is, I use an editor, and laboriously crank out and test my pages on IE, safari, FireFox and Opera. But this is agonizingly slowwwwww ! What tools do *professional* webbers use to build sites ?? What would you folks here suggest as a useful tool for web-building that would speed up my building, but result in clean editable pages ? (btw, I'm an expert database man, but quit a neophyte in web design.) My 'forte' is building Windows business applications (Inventory, Accounting, etc, etc) using xBase database software (i.e., the xHarbour language). I can hardly wait until I can get 'behind-the-scenes' and do database work to back up my (pathetic) designs. Hi, I am new to HTML and web programming, trying to learn things. I came across the Developer tools in Microsoft Explorer and I opened the main google page and yahoo mail log in page, but there was lots of lines, I thought it might be shorter than that cos there is not much going on the page, a search bar, a button and few links. Also, there are tags like css and script, does that mean they have use many scripting/languages to make that page, and how can u really write few hundreds of line just for an almost empty page (i.e. not much details), there must be something to make writing that script easier. We have a page that shows when certain production jobs have run and the last time i had to update it i had to actually change the HTML code and that was a pain. Is there an easier way to maintain this HTML page? I'd like to work with something like WORD where i just deal with the content on the WORD page and let WORD generate the HTML, but this particular HTML page has custom layout, but i'm figuring since WORD can do it there must be another tool that can handle this custom layout and content like a WORD HTML page? This file is being loaded from a frameset and when I load it in IE it doesn't update, I have to wipe all the temporary IE files in order to see the updated content. Thanks in advanced. I want to update the header/footer on each page of the site I'm working on without having to manually edit every single page. So I've been told to use sitetools - in that folder is a file called "makesite" in which I input all the pages that I want these changes to be on. Then I login thru PuTTy, an SSH client, and type in these commands: "cd sitetools" and then "makesite." Except when I type in "makesite," it says "Command not found." I've never dealt with sitetools before - I just took over the webmaster job for my professor as a (VERY) part-time gig so all I ever do is edit, I don't know a whole lot beyond basic HTML. If anyone can offer me any guidance, I'd really appreciate it! My current web site is at "CAVAglass.com" I created "http://www.cavaglass.com/gallery/1.GORMENGHAST.htm" and want it to be my new Index Page. All the links work fine here. When I rename "http://www.cavaglass.com/gallery/1.GORMENGHAST.htm" as "index.htm", and open my "CAVAglass.com" website this home page looks fine, but no links work. Any suggestions? Best, Joseph Hi guys, Is there a way I can have a page of links sat in a directory which I can call from via other pages on the server? I think I'm thinking of something that can be done with PHP, but the idea is: On main page, for example, links: 1 2 3 All call to 'links.html' Which has a list of page URL's, each with their own ID. So the links on the main page call to the ID's, which extracts the link listed at that moment in time. So if I later want to change the link, I have only to change the link.html and not every related link on the site. I know I could maybe use inline frames, but the layout I have makes that not possible, and it's still not a great solution. I'm sure someone must know what I'm talking about. Hi, I have a project that I am working on, where I have a Default page where I have links to various pages which contain various product information for products which I QA. I have on the default page a link to a master sheet where a person could see the information from all of the sections on one page. What I would like to be able to do is update the various sections and then be able to click the link for the Master sheet and see the updated information. Is this possible? Then I have suffered the Internet to look for some information about the W3C standard. And I found it is very difficult for me to solve the problem.Is there any easier way you can provide us? I am off to have a go again Need help with HTML can anyone give me code for this? ok i sell usb modems here in India and i have made a php link to enter its warranty, where the buyers type in the serial number, IMEI , address, phone number, contact details etc and when they submit it i get an email of that .. and i just make a PDF file of that and save it now iam planing to build a page where in the users can check their warranty status.. i have saved all those pdfs in the corresponding serial numbers, in my web directory as a folder so what i need is I dont know coding.. i just use scripts from net and use it on my site a text are and a submit button.. in which the user will type the serial number and when they click submit button, the pdf with the serial number as its name will open in a new window.. thats all can anyone help? |
