HTML - Im Stuck?!?! (hosting Files)

I am looking for a hosting site that lets me use Wordpress Multi user (WPMU). For whatever reason, fatcow.com doesn't allow me to use WPMU. I am looking for price and ease of use for my coders.

My newspaper's TownNews web hosting format gets REALLY screwy when I use the title attribute. Can anyone help?



I write for a weekly newspaper that utilizes the TownNews web hosting company for the paper's site. Posting the paper's stories to the web for each edition is my responsibility, one that I take seriously and would like to develop.

TownNews uses its own in-site software to post stories, with built-in text fields for "Insert Title Here," "Insert Byline Here," etc. You can use standard HTML within these fields, but based on the pre-made structure of the site's layout, certain features cannot be used. Or at least it seems that way. I'm hoping I'm wrong about this.

The main trouble I'm having is the title attribute in HTML. I know now, thanks to friendly and helpful responders here, that it's as easy as "title=..." within HTML code.
But if anyone else out there knows the TownNews format of posting stories, you know it doesn't like the title attribute because of its own site structure.

Is there any way around this? Has anyone else encountered similar dificulties?
I desperately want to use the title attribute.

ok im messing around with cpanel (just got hosting from inmotionhosting.com)
and i downloaded a layout and im uploading the index.html, images, and the css file to cpanel but when i go to view the page, the pictures dont show. what am i doing wrong?

Not sure where else to post this, but here it goes:

I have free web hosting from limewebs.com and I bought a domain using register.com I'm able to redirect my website url from register.com to my free limewebs domain, where the stuff is all hosted, no problem.

However, I need to do this for email too. I don't have email on either one. Does anyone know of a similar solution? Or do I need to purchase additional stuff?

I've set up the free gmail business account, but I guess I need hosting? So lost, any help much appreciated. Obviously I'm a newbie, sorry if this isn't the right forum. Help!

I was wondering how to get rid of some pesky html code 000webhost.com puts at the bottom of my site. They insert it when I upload the site. When you search the site in google is comes up "Free Hosting", and I have my own domain. Is there a way to override this?

K so a while back ago I created my website using microsoft frontpage 2003, but since then my harddrive has crashed (got one up and running now) and I cant find the CD to install it again on my new formatted harddrive.. So I took the source code off the website that was up and worked with that in notepad. Eventually figured out what I needed to do to get it to do what I needed (basically I just wanted to add more pictures in my gallery, was easy to figure out just by looking at the source code).

So now I have, what appears, to be working html code (when I open the .html file in internet explorer, all the links seem to be in working order). But I'm not sure how to get the new source code applied to my website. When I was using frontpage, I was able to 'publish to web', and that seemed to take care of all the file managing. So without that 'publish to web' button, I'm at a loss. My web hosting is omnis. I figure I have to do something with the file manager when I log in.

But, for instance, I'm not sure what to do with the actual source code to apply it, and exactly how to set up directories and whatnot manually.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated (or atleast has some links to some good tutorials/help websites. I've been looking around and can't seem to find what I need. )

Recently our web devolper for our karnival group has stepped down. He gave me the user name and password for the ftp and for strato.de . I want to create a database but I can not figure out how to becuase I do not know what my web hosting software is.(IE Plesk)

Is there a way I can find this out because I can not contact the old web master...

_private file hosting

I use to use the _private folder on my old website (netfirms.com) to hide files i wanted only privileged people to access with a direct link, because _private could not be searched or accessed without a direct link to the file or page you wanted to access. I would like to do the same on my new host (000webhost.com). Ideally I want a totally secure place to put files outside of the publics ability to see or access without being first given a direct link to. _private has thus far proven to be searchable and not an option here. this system uses a /public_html folder. i tried adding a /private_html and /_private neither was accessible. so how do i post secure files in my site? what are my options?

If you were looking to host a blog, and nothing else on that domain, would you go for one of the companies that only host blogs and that are semi set up with templates and so on? Or would you just go for your own hosting and set it all up yourself?

Ok I've always been told with the age old myth of "you should never keep your domains and hosting with the same company."

It was something about if they change their rules they can lock you in or something weird?

Because of this I have always had all of my domains with godaddy and bounced around with hosting & now I have my hosting with hostgator.

Whats the real scoop on this?

It works locally but once uploaded to there servers I get a "page not found" after clicking a link. The link to the index page works but not the others. The people at fatcow where completely useless and just kept saying it was a scripting issue. however, if it were a scripting issue it wouldn't work locally.

Any insight?

Hi, I'm new to this forum and would like to apologize in advance for the "general" nature of this question. I am a new moderator for another Forum type website. The website has for years had no image upload feature and had users place in their posts external links to free photo hosting sites.

Recently, the website added a feature to upload images directly onto their server, allowing them to be locally archived rather than remotely linked to the other photo hosting website.

Now, 99.9 % of the Forum users have never purchased prints from the photo hosting site, including myself. Though the host site has never sent me any notification on my account, the older picture links on my posts have ceased to work, displaying only red X's instead. This is now beginning to happen all over the Forums, creating a slow errosion of images from the older posts.

It would be ideal to create some type of program or utility to "saveas", then convert all of the older images to the new local hosting, thus eliminating the problem. This would solve the problem for the newer eternally linked images - unfortunately the older ones are probably lost.

Does anyone have any ideas or sugestions on this? (I did a search but was unable to find anything)

First, I want to remove the yellow. Note how I want to make two tables at the bottom separated. If you can think of a more user friendly way of doing so, I'm all ears.

The red block I want to make into a php include, but I can't figure out what I need to yank out of the HTML to make it happen. This is a templatemonster.com layout.

Im making an auction site and everything seems to work fine. When I went to a site that checks my html and such it looks like a wreck. Im not sure im checking it correctly or with the correct type validation. It shows 100's of errors. That's one concern. Other things like appearance and form fields being inserted in my html pages is another area I am lost at.

Where I am stuck the most is, I know there is a better way to make everything work. Im really having trouble with the idea portion and then of course the execution may or may not be within my abilities.

The auction script is hosted on the owners servers and I basically just create an html page and split it in between the head tags and insert it inside the site and the program integrates it into the php auction script. In the end the log-on page (calender) is my html page. Once you enter an auction the html I inserted into the auction script takes over.


The kind of things I was wanting to do I think are easy I just dont know how to explain in a short way.

For example the auction script is pretty much self contained. It could run by itself. Or it can be edited in different ways. Everything is just fill in the blanks and once published it is a basic ugly layout.

Or I can turn off the feature and manually create it myself in the html pages. This is tedious and could cause a lot of mistakes to be made. The script owner just says keep it simple and basic. This is good advice for most. I just want to keep it easy not so much simple. If I could get the text fields I enter into the auction to show up on my html main page (calender) and have my css control the looks that would be ideal. The calendar page is just what it says a calender of auctions with descriptions, dates, details about the up coming auction. All of that is typed into the backend of the auction script and it will make a basic text of it on the screen if I allow it to be seen. Instead I just dont refer to it in any of my html and manually type the data into my calender page. So for starters it would be great if all of that could come from the auction and automatically update the html page through a cron job or something.

lol.... now Im really trying to get carried away.


This is one of those scripts you would just have to look at to fully understand. It is called Maxanet. It looks like it has a lot of editing options, its just the instructions never say what you can really do as far as editing goes. All of their sample auctions are bare bones. I can fin examples of what it can do or what I can put in my html to take advantage of it and create a professional look.



Back to my initial concern. when I try to validate my css html it looks like not a single line is correct. I dont know if I am doing the validation correctly. Im ure there are a lot of errors just the ones it says so far dont make any sense to me. Like it wa written in another language to me...grin


If anyone is interested in looking the site is nexusonlineauctions.com I welcome any advice good or bad. The html is something I did combining differnt things from differnt places. The drop down menus would love to know if there is a way to make them match up to the actual auctions. So auction one will automatically make that drop down say Auction 1 and so on for each auction. Completed auctions and such anre archived in such a way that they will stay named the same forever once theyare completed. Active auctions are put into what they call a work space and the work space is re-used after the completion of the auction and has a fied that contains the auction name.

Gosh I could go on for weeks trying to explain this stuff. SInce my knowledge is so limited I am never going to explain it properly.
