HTML - Transfer Html Code From One Page To The Next
I can't seem to figure out if there is a name for what I am wanting to do. I am wanting to create a website that has a menu bar on every page. The home page will have a menu bar. On the menu bar will be links such as "Home" and "About Us". Once you click on each link, it directs you to a new page which again has the same menu bar on top of the page.
If I decide to Add, Modify, or Delete anything in the menu bar, I would have to go to every page that I have created and change the code from there on, creating a tedious task. Here is what my idea consists of: On a central "hub" document on the server would be a document with the following code: <Link Name= John> <a href="home.htm">HOME</a> | <a href="aboutus.htm">ABOUT US</a> | <a href="mediation.htm">MEDIATION</a> | </Link> On a completly separate page, I would write the following anywhere in the code: <Reference Link Name = John> And it would copy the code Name = John which is saved on another document and transfer it over to this new page. I would want this so I can write <Reference Link Name = John> so if I wanted to Add, Modify, or Delete anything in the menu bar, I could simply do it from one central place, rather than doing it 40 different times on 40 different pages I have created. I hope I drew out a picture well enough for what I am trying to accomplish! How to? Thanks I'm currently updating some online forms using HTML. When the page is refreshed (either manually, or by pressing a button) the page redirects to the top. Is there any code that will refresh the page to the last position before the refresh. Ex: If you are half way down the page, and click an "Add" button, the page will refresh back to that same spot. I have never been happy with the layout and feel I could make it better by instead of having to parse each command into html to use text files. I have put some example code on pastebin and hoped someone could help me in getting the basics working, I know little about iframes and java. I would really love to have the items on the left to be clicked on so they expand and allow me to choose a more granular menu system that allows the items clicked to open in the right hand iframe, a bit like the IBM / HP ilo screens. I copy the page source of the login page of journal and change login and passwd type to hidden and enter the value..in the form.. In Chrome it looks ok, except for the horizontal scrolling photo gallery isn't working. I have a horizontal scrolling photo gallery on both the index page and on a special gallery page. I am not sure why this is disabled, everything looks perfect when I preview in both Chrome and IE out of Dreamweaver. If anyone could help me, I would GREATLY appreciate it! I already made the site live because in the live preview it worked. I believe I moved everything over and into the correct place (.css etc). Again, I would love it if anyone could help me out. I attached both a screen shot of what it looks like in IE and what it's supposed to look like (taken from a chrome preview shot). I have a basic page, when the page loads I want people to see the top of the page for a few seconds while a flash starts to load but then I want the page to scroll down a bit so the visitor can see the flash load progress status. It's been a good 6 years since i have worked on a website. My biggest accomplishment so far was getting the contact form to work properly on the site. It does, i feel like i've done alot lol. Anyway, the current design is a rough layout (suggestions are welcome). It still needs a lot of little touches to make it look more "full". My biggest concern now is when your clicking from page to page the table jumps around. In firefox, the Contact Us and Services page are perfect, nice and centered. The image i'm using where the navigation buttons are is in place as well. When you go to the other pages though the table moves a bit and it looks like the image i'm using where the navigation buttons are starts to repeat. In Internet Exploder, everything doesn't look centered. There seems to be more space on the right than on the left, but the image i'm using for the navigation buttons seems to be fine, it's not repeating. I dunno what's causing this. I know different browsers display stuff in different ways but i'm far from having a good understanding as to why (that's why i'm here). I even copied txt from one of the messed up pages and pasted it on one of the pages that is ok and that didn't work. I assume it's a CSS thing. Also, try and avoid saying things like "Table designs are for teh n00bz!11!" or "This is why CSS is better than using a table design!!!". This is how i did it. I write HTML lessons and I want to put just the pure code in my posts, but they appear as a regular html document... How do I make the code to be shown just as text (code), like we do in the forum boards (code tags or whatever)? I have a website where I want to make a drop down menu that will bring you to different pages. It is a very basic, sort of old-fashioned website that relies entirely on html. What I'm trying to do is make a drop-down menu that will be used as navigation for a section of a website and I want to have it in each internally linked page in that section, but I'm going to be adding more pages to it over time so I want to be able to put the drop-down menu code in a separate text file and then substitute it into the pages that I make that the options in the menu link to and then just edit the code in the text file when I add another page so that I don't have to go back and edit the code every single individual page whenever I add a new one among them. Basically all I'm asking is how I can put html code in a text file and then substitute that code into an html page by referring to the file. Thanks in advance for any help. |
