I'm currently helping out a family friend's company with general IT stuff, wether it be designing things for them or website stuff. Now I am by no means an experienced web designer, hence why I came here. They asked me today if I can make some changes to one of the sites they run, really simple ones at that. All I need to do is update some of the text on the site, change the dates etc. I have access to the ftp, using filezilla, and for the life of me I cannot find the html files I need to change. Now I obviously don't expect you guys to tell me where they are, but is there a method you would use to track them down? Right now there seems to be a ridiculous amount a folders and files for what seems to be a relatively simple site! By "interactive", I mean "you get a list of the top 40 (or top 100) songs, and if you click the songs, you'll hear them play". I'm thinking that, in order for this to work, I need to find a online radio site or something. But I know nothing about streaming websites...so I'm not even sure if there already is a "Top 40s Billboard" station, or a "Top R&B/Hip-Hop" station. And if those stations do exist, I don't know how to add them to my website. Would I need something called RSS/XML??? What do I do??? 2) I want to add a sports ticker to my website. I'd love for it to be similar to this (I wish I could just pay them for the ticker, but I can't afford $130/month. You can get info on national sports news (Michael Vick, etc.) and you can also get specific news based on individual sports teams (San Francisco 49ers, Detroit Tigers, etc.) You can also click on each individual link (located on the left side) and read more information on each topic; it's really really cool. <3 Is there anyway to reproduce this effect? If that ticker involves too much work, then how do I at least get the NATIONAL/MAJOR sports news for each sports category (NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, etc.) to show up? 3) Also, what's the best way to keep my sports ticker and music charts up-to-date (or even better, have it update by itself)? Hi, Found these forums on google whilst searching for the answer to my question. I currently have a site with 320+ pages and have recently come to a point where I need to change a section of code which is identical on every page, does anyone know of an editor or program where it is possible to edit this section of code on all of the pages at once or am I going to have to edit each page one by one? I would like a good software program where I can create templates in html format so that I can email for marketing purposes. I've tried a few online services and their limitations have me beating my head against the wall. I don't know html code. And I don't need to build a website. And I don't want to spend an outrageous amount of money. But I do want to create a template that will get to someones inbox, not junk mail, and arrive without attachments. I'm computer literate, both Mac and PC, but I know nothing of coding. I ashamed to say this, but nevertheless I'm willing to learn a little if any of you will hold my hand through some changes I'd like to make to my Tumblr theme. Here's a link to my Tumblr page. Currently, the code is written to display a certain number of recent posts (for my purposes, tweets from a Twitter account). The default setting displays anywhere between 1-9 of the most recent posts. The issue is that I am using the ticker to display a list of daily announcements. The number of announcements we tweet varies from day to day, and become irrelevant once the day is over. Is there a way to rewrite this code so that the posts (tweets) displayed are based on the day they are posted rather than the number of recent posts? For example, instead of displaying my 5 most recent tweets, I'd like to display everything I've tweeted today and only things I've tweeted today. I hope that makes sense. I've been trying to make an HTML program that opens programs I direct it to. Now I have the layout all correct, it looks almost like a control panel with my most commonly used programs. Thanks a lot. hello, I'm having a little trouble trying to find a solution, maybe I'm just searching the wrong key words as ive spent a hours trying to work this out, what I'm after is a way that once I have created a website, I can add some form of coding or software that allows the website owner/end user to change the content or add pictures easily with out the need to have any knowledge in HTML etc. I know this should be possible as many website company's offer this service and it's also used on the web site building software offered by most hosting providers. Many thanks Julian I've made my email newsletter using html and uploaded it to my server. I only need to get the html coded newsletter into the gmail client. After searching on google for a couple hours I've gotten frustrated not being able to find the correct method of doing this. I tried clicking and dragging from the uploaded html file in my internet browser, which sort of works except I then lose all the hyperlinks (text and image) in the transfer. Thanks Hello, I'm trying to create a little page that auto updates itself whenever new files are added. The system is layered such that I have the top level index.html file, then in the same directory, I can add new folders that contain other index.html files. What I want to do is have the top level index.html file pick up every sub directory, grab the name from the directory, and then create a link to that directory's index.html file and then display it in the top level index.html file. So what I have right now is this: HTML Code: <body> <a href="myFirstDirectory/index.html">myFirstDirectory.html</a> </body> There is other stuff, but this is the part I need help with. As you can see, I also want the name that is displayed to be the same name as the directory. I do not know how to automate this if I have other folders in there like directory2, directory3, etc. Can anyone show me an example of how to do this or walk me through it? Thanks in advance. |
