HTML - Scaleable Webpage Has Some Problems

It turns out to be a lot harder than I thought to appropriately deal with different screen resolutions, so I've come here for help. I want my navigation menu to stay fixed left, the ad fixed right, and the center area to shrink with the screen. Additionally I want a lower resolution limit, at which point you have to sidescroll, and an upper width limit, at which point the page centers itself. Everything works except for one problem. I fixed my earlier problems by changing the positioning of the ad div. now it reads: "position:absolute; left:850px;". Everything else now works as intended. The problem is, I want the ad to reposition intelligently too. Secondly, for some reason I can't get the table to match the div's width - it's fixed at a larger point than my min-width. Is there some built-in unchangeable min table width? I'm using CSS to make the size and placement of all of my images scale with the size of the window. Unfortunately, I'm also trying to use an image map to link to the subsections of the website. When I program the image map normally, the coordinates don't scale with the size of the image, meaning the smaller the window gets the less accurate my links become. When you size the window smaller than the text, a scroll bar appears, and when you scroll the background no longer exists. If I put it on auto the background will only go as far as the text does. 4. (nice but not required)The cocroachs to be alligned to the left and right of the top bar respectively, and the text in the middle. 5. (nice but not required) the right column background image is being cut in half (as does the top one if you size small enough). any way to make the images ignore the collumns? don't worry about the colors I will be changing them soon how do i make a background image fit to the window. also i have a button on a page. how do i get it to close the window uppon clicking it. any help would be great.
