HTML - Links To Video Files Help
Hi all
I'm not exactly super profficient with HTML but I kinda know what I'm doing. I'm making a html document for the place that i work which stors quite large video files ona server (in the order of 1.5 to 2gig). I have the HTML document on another server, however. Basicaly what i want to do (and this is a very simplified version of my goal but its where the problem lies) is to have links from that HTML to the video files on the video server. So you click the link and it asks you if you want to save it or open it etc.. So this seems fairly simple... i've just got a <a href="\\videoservername\vod$\video_library\example.mpg">Click Here</a> which works but INCREDIBLY SLOWLY. I mean i knew it would take 5 minutes to copy the videos across... which it does if i link to the directory of the video rather than the video itself. So thats all good. But when its linked directly to the video file it takes a good 15 minutes between the 'Save or open' box and the 'where do you want to save' box. Once it does come up it saves in about 5 minutes like expected. I just dont get why it takes so long for the 'where would you like to save' to come up. If anyone knows a way around this or could even exaplain why its like this, it would be greatly appreciated. I want to Make a page that can open local video files in windows default player with the <a HREF="movie.avi"> tag , without downloading the video file (because the video files are in my local disk).I use wamp server program to work as a server.I have tried to do it but it keeps downloading the video files and it trEats them like their are not local.the options that it gives me is to open it or download it I choose to open it but it stills download it. Hey guys! I've just realized my first site html5 and all it was ok about indeed the on-line publishing on my server. Indeed every test made on the local disk were good without Firefox does not read the audio and video files. It works with Google Chrome and Safari but not Firefox. I am anxious to specify that I'm under Mac Os X and that I converted well files in format OGG and that I am rather a graphic designer who try write some code. Thanks so much, Dan Hi, Wondering what are some good ways to restrict access to files / links for a visitor until they have registered their details... for example, when a user tries to access a certain file from a download page, they click on the file link >> I want to send them to a registration page (a simple form), and - only once they've filled it out and submitted their details - to send them back to the download page with unrestricted access to that file (or any other resitrcted files). Any suggestions / pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Hello, I'm trying to create a little page that auto updates itself whenever new files are added. The system is layered such that I have the top level index.html file, then in the same directory, I can add new folders that contain other index.html files. What I want to do is have the top level index.html file pick up every sub directory, grab the name from the directory, and then create a link to that directory's index.html file and then display it in the top level index.html file. As you can see, I also want the name that is displayed to be the same name as the directory. I do not know how to automate this if I have other folders in there like directory2, directory3, etc. Can anyone show me an example of how to do this or walk me through it? Thanks in advance. Hi everyone, I hope I have posted this in the right area. This is my first time posting here. I currently have my main pages listed at the top of my site as graphics (see fussybaby.ca). I would like to potentially remove these graphics and use text links instead - I had the graphics designed for me, so I can't just go in and make new ones, however I'd like to change/rearrange the links and add some new ones. So my question is: How hard is this to do? Is this something I need to hire someone to do for me? Thanks in advance for any advice! On my website, Celtics Insider, where the picture of the banners are (right above the "About Us" and "Our History" sections), I want to change that image into a video. I want to have a video like ESPN, where it doesn't say "YouTube" or show any of that crap, just a little transparent "play" button (the image, not the text). I'm just wondering a few things. First off, how do I resize the video so it is 442 x 200? Also, how do I make it so the YouTube thing doesn't show up? And how do I make a little transparent play button to click on before the video starts? I want to be able to have text below as well with a link to the story, like ESPN does. If you don't know what I mean, look at ESPN: http://espn.go.com/ hello all and merry xmas, my client needs a free/very cheap video uploading solution. he has an unlimited hosting account and a domain. he wants to create a website where he uploads daily/weekly sermons (30 - 60 min long videos) and can share it with the web. i was thinking of 1. making video > uploading to his space via ftp > embedding in html form, but i dont think its best to leave so 'many' tasks for him to deal with on a everyday basis. 2. a blog e.g. blogger which will enable him to embed videos, but this means videos arent categorized. 3. free/very cheap video hosting. google video was a favourite but since it has shut down recently he cannot use it.
