I have been trying for two days with no luck. Thanks Per Hi All, I am brand new to the forums. If you go to my site: www.wachusettchess.org using IE it will look fine. If you view the site using either Firefox or Safari, it's a mess with lots of overlapping text and boxes. Can anyone help me determine what the Firefox/Safari problem is? Thanks in advance. Dave Couture My site works in Firefox and Safari just like I want it to, but when IE tries to read it, the divs and images get spaced out and wrapped around AND it is not centered on the page like it should be... what is my coding flaw? www.nativboardriding.com check it out in firefox or safari to see how it SHOULD be displayed, then open it with IE. Thanks, Levs Hi Everyone- I'm hoping someone out there might be able to solve a problem I've been having with my site for a number of years. The site was designed for IE but with the growing popularity of Firefox and Safari (to name a few), I want to insure that it works properly with those browsers. For the most part, it does -- except when displaying a background image in a table. For example - look at this page: http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/...anentwaves.php When viewed in I.E., the grey background image with the woman displays properly, as does the full image of the album cover within. However when viewed in Firefox or Safari, the background image repeats near the bottom for about 20 pixels. The problem also exists on a page like this one: http://www.cygnus-x1.net/links/rush/lyrics.php Where the brown background image which includes the words "Rush Lyrics" displays properly in I.E. but seems to repeat for 20 pixels in FF. This one's been driving me crazy for years and, due to some recent changes I've been making, it's come back to haunt me. If anyone has any suggestions as to why this is happening and what I can do to remedy it, I would greatly appreciate it... Thanks so much. Hi, Im trying to develop a simple HTML interface for virtual tours but I cant get the site to look the same in all browsers. The problem comes when I view the page in IE. I want the bottom table to only be the length of the window as done in both safari and firefox. Thanks http://www.ptacnik.com/index102.html When previewing through Dreamweaver in ANY of these 3 browsers it looks fine. (from my local drive) But once online it only loads in Firefox. I names the top frame as TOP, the bottom two named "menu" on the left and "mainframe" on the right. While clicking buttons on the "TOP" frame would show other buttons in menu targeting things to show up in "mainframe" i have already done a web site days ago and i am trying to redo it now : ( would be really really grateful if you can help Thank you very much indeed! On my website I have set up a table (100% wide) with three columns in, the middle column is 700px wide. (I presumed this would balance out the two side columns placing the middle column in dead center. It does(ish). I am guessing this might be a way that is frowned upon but, I am thinking of adding extra little bits of info in them outside columns later on... In safari (my main browser) it works fine and places it exactly however, in firefox (on mac) there is a slight one pixel nudge to the right which stands out significantly. (In fact, it was the first thing I noticed!) The background image is obviously the problem but this seems like the only route as I have found this error half way down the line and I do not want to go back and do a load of HTML code editing! Screenshots below: Firefox: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/5249/picture7mfq.png Safari: http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/4269/picture6kpd.png Is there any possible fix to this solution? Only logged in users can see this page so I could store a users screen width in a $_SESSION variable using PHP and then adjust this on each page? Just an idea I thought of but I doubt... any help is highly appreciated!!!!!! P.S: I have not tested in IE yet... I will in a minute... UPDATE //////////////////////////////// I just tested it in Firefox on Windows Vista.... there was no problem. And as for Internet Explorer.. everything is fine.. I am working on a website and so far it is coming together the way I intended. Looks good on Chrome, and Safari. IE is not right yet but it looks as expected since I haven't done the IE style sheet yet. However, Firefox is producing a completely unexpected problem. http://nickbogatin.com I will post code but I don't even have an idea as to where the error is yet. Help would be appreciated. Nick I am quite in shock that I just found out my page looks horrible in IE. I coded it myself, but I don't know what to do. If anyone could please take a look at the code for this page: http://www.thegearedinvestor.com I would really appreciate it. As you can see in IE, the second column is shifted all of the way down to the bottom, where it should be right beside the left column. The code for this starts at the line: <div id=centercolumn align=right> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://feedjit.com/coFilter/?bc=FFFFFF&tc=494949&brd1=336699&lnk=494949&hc=336699&ww=160"></script><noscript><a href="http://feedjit.com/">Feedjit Live Blog Stats</a></noscript> <br><!-- closes innercentercolumn2 --> I'll continue to work on it, but any help would be amazing. Thanks in advance! Hello, I'm new to the forums =) I'm currently having a problem with my navigation which involves images. Initally I used the traditional image map method using area maps and the usemap function but it only worked in the webpage itself, and when the webpage shows in an iframe the links are nonexistent. So I sliced my navigation to give the sliced images the url link instead. As usual, they work on their own but when the page is shown in an iframe, some of the links disappear (you can't even hover on them) only in Firefox, Chrome and Safari. But some of the links are also still intact. In IE and Opera they work perfectly fine. Below is the code for the page which contains the navigation and links aforementioned, which will be displayed in an iframe of another page: Code: <!-- ImageReady Slices (mainframe.jpg) --> <table id="Table_01" width="971" height="565" border="0" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td rowspan="4"> <img src="images/mainframe_01.gif" width="200" height="531" alt=""" style="z-index:-3;"></td> <td> <a href="defence.html" target="_parent" onmouseover="window.status='STET Defence'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;"> <img src="images/mainframe_02.gif" width="332" height="163" border="0" alt="" style="z-index:1;"></a></td> <td rowspan="4"> <img src="images/mainframe_03.gif" width="438" height="531" alt=""></td> <td> <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="163" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <a href="maritime.html" target="_parent" onmouseover="window.status='STET Maritime'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;"> <img src="images/mainframe_04.gif" width="332" height="134" border="0" alt="" style="z-index:1;"></a></td> <td> <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="134" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <a href="homelandsec.html" target="_parent" onmouseover="window.status='STET Homeland Security'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;"> <img src="images/mainframe_05.gif" width="332" height="138" border="0" alt="" style="z-index:1;"></a></td> <td> <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="138" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td rowspan="2"> <a href="centre.html" target="_parent" onmouseover="window.status='STET Centre'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;"> <img src="images/mainframe_06.gif" width="332" height="130" border="0" alt="" style="z-index:1;"></a></td> <td> <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="96" alt=""></td> </tr> <tr> <td> <a href="https://mail.stet.com.sg/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https://mail.stet.com.sg/owa&reason=0" target="_parent" onmouseover="window.status='Login to Intranet'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;"> <img src="images/mainframe_07.gif" width="200" height="34" border="0" alt="" style="z-index:1;"></a></td> <td> <a href="sitemap.php" target="mainframe" onmouseover="window.status='Lost?'; return true;" onmouseout="window.status=''; return true;"> <img src="images/mainframe_08.gif" width="438" height="34" border="0" alt=""></a></td> <td> <img src="images/spacer.gif" width="1" height="34" alt=""></td> </tr> </table> <!-- End ImageReady Slices --> <div id="pict" style="position:absolute;top:200px;left:10px;z-index:0;"> <iframe name="news" src="news.php" FRAMEBORDER=no name="frame" allowTransparency scrolling=auto style="filter:chroma (color=#FFFFFF)" width="185" height="90"></iframe> </div> There is another iframe in this page which I wonder might be causing the problem. However even when I removed it the problem remains. Any ideas how to fix it? Would really appreciate the help, thanks! You may have seen this question before, but I cannot for the life of me find an answer that works. I embedded a .swf flash file on a page on my website. This flash plays perfectly on IE and Chrome, but nothing shows up on Safari or Firefox. I, at first, wrote the code by hand. Then I instead used swfobject to properly write the code (this still hasn't fixed the problem) I used the w3 markup validation site to check the code, and it comes back with 0 errors. Any Ideas? The code is below: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title></title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="posthink.swf"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> swfobject.registerObject("myFlashContent", "9.0.0"); </script> </head> <body> <div style="text-align: center;"> <object classid="clsid: D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="550" height="400" id="myFlashContent"> <param name="movie" value="posthink.swf" /> </object> </div> </body> </html> (I inserted a space in the classid= tag to do away with the : D turning into a smiley) Thanks for your help. |
