HTML - Question On Repeated Headers, Footers, Etc.

Hello Everyone. The problem I am having and always wanted to know the correct way is . When adding text within a table with a background image and if the text excedes the background image thus increasing the height of the table, the background image repeats. What I want to do is have a solid color repeat at the bottom of the image so the table does not break the image, I want the image not to Repeat but to take on that solid color and repeat that color through the bottom of the Table so I can add as much text as I need.

I appreciate any help. I know this is quite common when working with table.

Hi everyone. Was just wondering out of interest, what everyone's preferred method for their website headers is.

Which of these do you prefer?

1. Setting background attributes for a #background div via your css file.

2. Having the image and anything else in an include file and using php includes.

3. Placing the code directly within your header div in the main code page.

Of these three, no.3 is one I generally just don't do.

The other two are both good options I think.

With 1, a problem that arises is you are unable to use the alt attribute for any images set via your CSS file, which obviously falls down on the accessibility side.

With 2, you can set an alt attribute for any images, I therefore prefer this method.

I have had a continuing problem where I have a small to midsize gap in my header on my site, The Final Fight.com. I also have the same problem with my forums, which the gap became apparent when I made a new forum skin that matches our homepage.

If I have an image on my web server how do I monitor the requests made for that image? i.e record the ip address and browser that made each request.

I have just started to manage a website on Wordpress. There is a header at the top of every page. It used to say the name of the website, but for some reason it has changed to the name of a post that was made a long time ago. Does anyone know how to change this header?

why doesnt ebay use headers? h1 h2 ect..

I viewed the source and was surprised not to find a h1, h2 or h3 ect.. I am just wondering if anyone knows why eBay isn't web standards compliant?

I am going to do my first website, and I need headings at the top of the page with , Home, Products, Services and Contact headings at the top but I need them to be inside a rectangular tab with round edges. So I need help in information on whether I have to format or style the headings with css eg. h1.one font-family etc etc. and then on the header <h1 class="one"> etc etc. I might be wrong but is there way I can get the headers I want to be round edged?

I am new to html so my answer might have been totally wrong just using my own assumptions.

Just getting my feet wet. using XMLSpy stylesheet designer to help
guide. I'm converting XML to HTML, which is Microsoft's recommended
way of controlling the import of XML into Excel. I've got the
stylesheet below in productive use. However, I want to make one key
change. I want the name of XML elements to become the text column
headings so I can deal with files that have dynamic column names.

Suggestions appreciated.

I am new to this group and to html programming .. sort of.

I am trying to find a way to display http headers from an html file (index.html)

The scenario is that I can display the http header variable and value information in my apache access.log file by setting the logformat in the httpd.conf file;
and
I need to verify that these are all available in the launched index.html file


And recommedations greatly appreciated.

I think PHP is a great thing...just frustrating at times - eh, we all get frustrated sometimes. I never get to vent to anyone about my lack of understanding web design.


I did indeed try this navigational menu on a website...I think it's a really neat idea, actually - boy, can this ever save some time. However I've ran into a small little problem - I'm sure an even medocre-level designer will point out some obvious problem I'm doing that is just going over my head.

I have setup a test to see if the navigational menu icons to the left would work, and voila! They did! But there's this little bugger that looks like this:



that's sitting right on top of my menu...and it's putting a little space in. See it there?

The menu 'block' should be flush up against the header block. You'll see what I mean - it's much easier understoot when simply looked at vs. explaining it. I put the following code in to "navigation.php" where I wanted the menu to appear:

I also made sure "navigation.html" was uploaded (and obviously it is because you can see it when you go to the "navigation.php" page.).

P.S. Is this forum the best one to post a question about tables/columns? I'm using a web template that I "think" uses tables (The same site above)...right? There's a column along the right-side of the page that goes all the way down (as needed) the page...I'd like to put an RSS feed there with updated content - but the only problem is sometimes, depending on the RSS feed headline/description, the column will expand toward the center of the page. This in turn screws up the look of the actual "content" of the page (which is to be the text in the "middle" if you will). Any ideas on this? If I should direct this "tables" question elsewhere please let me know and I'll gladly comply! I'm currently using Microsoft Expression web designer...I'm still in the process of finding "the best one". I made sure the "No Wrap" was NOT checked in that right-column, BTW.

Here is my problem:

I want a div layer with transparent background, but on the div-layer I want a table with no transparacy covering about 90% of the background.

Is it possible to make just the background transparent or am I forced to use two layers, one for the background and one slightly smaller for the table.

I am using a div relative to place text on top of an image. The problem that I am having is in Firefox when a dropdown list is overtop of this div tag, the div tag shows up on top of the dropdown. I do not want this to happen. It does not happen in IE and it allows the dropdown to show up on top. How do I fix this

What exactly is XHTML. how much different from HTML is it? and, do I have to re-learn a whole bunch of stuff to write valid code with it?
