HTML - What Is Meant By This Peace Of Html Advice...? Please Help!
"This will help immensely when you 1) rewrite all your pages and can use a script to replace one set of standard text with another set of standard text instead of doing all the changes by hand and 2) when someone else tries to modify or add to your collection of web pages. "
I am basically teaching myself html web-design and am trying to understand what is meant by the first piece of advice... can someone explain what is meant by this in a languge that someone who is still trying to understand the basics of html would understand? Any clarification will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Similar TutorialsHi all, I'm working on a schedule system that reads its data fro a mysql db via php and dynamically creates an image of the schedule. it then creates an image map of each object in the schedule, puts it all together and displays it. the problem I have been having for the last few days is that only the first hot spot is where is is meant to be, the rest are all off set by seemingly random amounts. Does anyone know what would be causing this? Hey guys!! I am a newbie at the whole HTML thing so looking here for some advice from you experts! I am looking for a simple way of making small buttons for people to post on either their website or social media. Like you know those sites where they ask you to give them a free link if they provide a free service for you? does anyone know of any good software or a really easy way of making a picture button like this? Thanks in advance for your help!! Cheers Hey people, First post here and I hope you guys can help me. I'm currently helping out a family friend's company with general IT stuff, wether it be designing things for them or website stuff. Now I am by no means an experienced web designer, hence why I came here. They asked me today if I can make some changes to one of the sites they run, really simple ones at that. All I need to do is update some of the text on the site, change the dates etc. I have access to the ftp, using filezilla, and for the life of me I cannot find the html files I need to change. Now I obviously don't expect you guys to tell me where they are, but is there a method you would use to track them down? Right now there seems to be a ridiculous amount a folders and files for what seems to be a relatively simple site! I hope someone can point me in the right direction, for reference this is the website I need to make changes to http://kcsfireworks.co.uk/ Hope you guys can help point me in the right direction! Cheers Hi all, Sorry for such an elementary question but up until now I have always used ../ for my references. So I don't have to duplicate code I decided to use ~/ for some referenced links and it doesn't seem to work. Get 404 on the requests. Ok.. what am I missing? Much thanks! s-one Hi people, hopefully you can help. I've made a website for a artist-run collective here in Edinburgh, Scotland and everything is getting under way. I had a few questions with some issues I have been encountering and perhaps you could send me some information on if there is anyway to fix this. http://www.modular9.co.uk/ That's the site. Some things aren't up yet but you get the idea. The main issue is with the index page anyway. I have used a collection of image paths and rollovers and if you take a look at the source you'll see my very basic, yet required, html/css. One of the issues is the delay in rollover. I understand it is because it is loading a whole image each time you rollover the tally marks, but is there any way to speed this up? Or use a script that isn't as ineffective as javascript? I don't mind the delay but I know that the rollover is meant to exist so I give it a second or two, but people coming to the site for the first time might not notice the navigation and leave :/ Also, on some of my friend's computers at college, when they click on, artists, or the about section, or contact, for example, the background doesn't show up as the colours I put down. Is this because I used css to do so? Are there actually some browsers that can't take css yet? I know it's a bit vague and a general query but any tips and things would be great to make the site more effective and smooth running. Hope you are all well. Rich Hello all. I am still new to HTML coding. I come from the dark side (flash) and am seeing the light anyway I am building a "flash alt" site and I am building it around the Cargocollective.com platform. and I DESPERATELY need a HTML or JAVA or some other iphone / ipad friendly music player for the site. I have been searching for weeks but all I keep finding are the same flash plugs that make the whole concept redundant. any help, guidance, or advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.... thanks I just changed the header on my main page http://www.bestsellersworld.com The red bar on the left does not reach all the way to the top and bottom. How do I extend this to make it lok more even? Do you think I need to make the background color where I have "All Reviews", etc. at the very top a different color to make this stand out more or does it look ok as is? Thanks. Hello i am new to web design and after i made a site i want to put to text inputs on my site and when the quest iputs a number in each text field after he presses a button a msgbox will pop having the answer text1 * text2. Thank you Hello, I'm trying to get as much help as i can to do with HTML ; I understand most of it all now thanks to alot of help on the WWB. A quick question, My friend is on about me doing a portolio to help me get a job in web design - could anyone give me any tips of what to do or how? Please have often told me to creat my own forum? or many a couple of websites? & also does anyone know any good FREE web hosts? Thank you. I'm a lover for making websites and I never used to be able to make my own designs, because I'm racking up experience I have started deisgning but I don't have enough HTML knowledge to code it. I know the basics and some CSS but I need some Advice on what HTML Tutorial Books you recommend? I'm new to coding of all kinds and I was just wondering if there was a better way to do this. I have my menu displayed through css. But when I want to display another link through the <a href> it comes up formatted like my navigation bar. Ill upload the .html file so you can check it out, it seems I have to upload it in .txt format. Please help. Thanks in advance, Fuzzycuzzy Hey everyone! I own an airbrush graphics shop and decided to make my own website rather than pay for someone to do it for me so I've read a ridiculous amount of info on html but still need help. Heres my website twizteddezign.com I just got dreamweaver 8 and redesigned the site but uploaded from nvu because all my ftp settings were in nvu. Now for some reason I cant get the pages centered in dreamweaver or nvu (Im sure its something REALLY stupid) so could someone help me out with that? I know there are probably a hundred other things I could do better also, but like I said I'm an airbrush artist-not a web designer so any other tips would be great also. Thanks in advance I really appreciate it. I have a website up www.sheridangroupdc.com When I use safari the bottom corner doesn't always display. I'm wondering if someone could provide some insight as to why this is happening. Thanks so much. the code for that portion is as follows... HTML Code: <div id="index_bottom_container_02"> <div id="index_right_text"> <div id="text_header"><img src="images/headers/new/index.jpg"/></div> <div id="txt_index_02"><img src="images/index_text.jpg" /></div> </div> <div id="index_right_flash"><img src="images/footer_small.jpg" alt="sheridan footer" /></div> </div> Hello, I have recently been asked to run the website for my church. (peacegaylord.org) If you go there, you will notice how simple it is. If you look at the source, it is REALLY messed up. I asked the previous webmaster and he said all he had done was take the one created in Word by our pastor, and converted some of the tags to work with older browsers. What this leaves me with is very messy and jumbled code. Now, what I really want to do is to simple re-write the entire site. If I did this I would: Use a style sheet instead of in-line styling Use non-deprecated tags (Obviously) Change the layout completely General clean-up/re-styling etc. Note: If I did this, I would try to make the entire thing HTML 5 compliant. However, a large amount of the people that use the site are older individuals, who may have old computers and therefore, old browsers. I know there is a way to make a browser recognize new tags by adding some javascript, but which tags would I have to do this with? OR I could simply go through and clean the current version up. What my question is: What would some of you do? If you would do the complete re-write, what kind of things would you add? Just looking for some advice Edit: The site is currently down as I am editing it a bit. Edit2: Site back online. Fist off I am somewhat new to HTML (mainly have used programs like Dreamweaver and such to create web pages). I am wanting to try and advance my skills a bit and create a HTML with some PHP code in it. My question that I have is about webpage formating. I am wanting to have a header, footer, left column and right column that has the same data in it all the time. The main body of the page however will display whatever information I search for from the mysql database but the rest of the site (footer, header, etc..) I want to display the same each time. What is the best way of going about this? I am not sure once I click the submit button to load the certain data from the database if I have to create a whole new page or if there is a way to just update the main body of the webpage with the results. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but wasn't sure if it belonged here in HTML or in PHP, I thought here was good. Any help will be very helpful, Thanks, Scott I'm wanting to make a professional website, close to the look/style of fkn0wned.com but with alot of pages and info. I DONT want someone to be able to steal it so I'm not sure what to code it in, php, css, ect. Whats the best to code in for professional websites? any ideas? There may not be many believers anymore but its all about and for God and Jesus, and other things such a help with depression, suicide, abuse, ect. Just a place to help people. I already have a few people thats going to help moderate it. Though the other site I made a long time ago, people just kept spamming porn everywhere and I couldnt stop them because they kept changing their IP, so I had to get rid of it. Anyway to stop that? But if you would like to join the team and help create it, I'm buying the domain name and hosting so I just need help making the site and moderating it and such. If you would like to join the team to help moderate or help build it then please PM me, I'd really like to use your talents , because alot of you are great at this stuff I plan on going far with this on such as having shirts made and weeky email messages, maybe a chat room with this program I could buy. So if youd like to help please post pr PM me, please dont flame, if you dont understand or think this is stupid then dont bother posting, God has changed my life 100% completly and I'm a new person, getting married, never been more happier. And this is a site to get people into God and help them with Him, this has NOTHING to do with religion. Like I said please dont flame, I'm just trying to do something good and nice. Thanks. It is not so easy to help customers design the first page, but the customer said that he hoped to it can meet w3c of xhtml standard. Then I have suffered the Internet to look for some information about the W3C standard. And I found it is very difficult for me to solve the problem. Is there any easier way you can provide us? Meanwhile the Internet also provide psd to html services: http://www.pgconversion.com, the price of which is relatively cheaper. I want to try, please give some advice. I need to design a webpage for selling livestock. I want to have a tabbed bar across the top with links to a page designated to each type of animal.. maybe 6 or 7 tabs in total. I also want a box at the bottom with contact information on every page. Each tab will just be a link a page with 5 or 6 pictures of animals and descriptions below them. What's the best way to do this? Should I even bother with CSS on a simple site like this. I want the home page to look like this: (tab for each of below) home our farm horses horses for sale sheep sheep for sale ************************page content******************************** John Doe 555-555-5555 jdoe@gmail.com I know html basics but really don't the easiest way to do this. First thing that comes to mind is just making a table but idk. I'm just using a text editor to make it. Thanks I am trying to get my pop-up opt-in form to appear on the left side of the screen, and follow as the reader scrolls down the web page. My autoresponder is with Aweber, if that is important. All their pop-ups just appear in the center of the screen. Can someone help me with this? Thanks for your time.
