HTML - Can't Get My Text To Stay Fixed When Resizing Screen
Hey everyone,
I feel like this is a noob question, but I'm going to ask anyway. How do write my site so that my body stays in the same place and doesn't smash together when I manually resize my page? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Similar TutorialsThis could be an HTML or CSS problem, but I can't figure out what's causing this and it's driving me nuts! The left column on my website will not stay a fixed width of 175px in IE 8. That seems to be the only browser having a problem. Here's the link: http://www.jrsart.net/testarea/paull...cientists.html I've linked the page that has it the worst, but if you visit the other pages and keep an eye on the left column's border, you'll see it keeps moving. Please help! I'm rapidly running out of time to fix this issue, so any advice would be greatly appreciated! Hi, I'm a little new at this, and I'm trying to put a pretty simple website together. I have a table that is the basis for the whole website design. It's pretty fixed, so I want all the widths of the table to be constant. A couple rows have fixed heights for aesthetic purposes. A couple rows I want to expand to whatever height is necessary to accomodate the content inside. the fourth row of the table has three cells side by side that I use as the header design. 1) picture 2) space 3) title I want all these to have fixed widths and heights. underneath is a cell that spans the length of all three of those. This is where I want my content. 4) content The length of this stays fixed but the height changes as more content is addes. The trouble is, the table cells display correctly for me as long as there is limited amount of text inside the 4) content cell. Whenever I enter past a few sentences, the 1) picture cell starts taking up more of the width and shrinking the 3) title cell. And this really messes up the nice spacing I had. Any thoughts on why this would happen??? I'm just stuck. I've tried a million things, but I'm sure its something simple I can't see right now. Hopefully a pair of fresh (and knowledgeable) eyes can help! Thanks so much, heres my code: [font="Courier New"] <body> <table width="875" border="0" align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"> <tr> <td height="75" colspan="5"><img src="../images/RichfieldLogo.png" width="250" height="75"></td> </tr> <tr align="center"> <td height="25" colspan="5" valign="top" class="mainmenu" style="border-bottom: solid 1px #666666; border-top: solid 1px #666666"> <h1 class="menu"> <ul> <li><a href="#" class="mainmenu">Home</a></li> <li><a href="#" class="mainmenu">Party in the Park</a></li> <li><a href="#" class="mainmenu">Info</a></li> </ul> </h1></td> </tr> <tr> <td height="20" colspan="5"><img src="../images/20spacer.png" width="20" height="20"></td> </tr> <tr align="left" valign="top"> <td width="190" rowspan="2"> <img src="../images/PartynParkPlaceholder.png" width="190" height="385"></td> <td width="20" rowspan="2"><img src="../images/20spacer.png" width="20" height="20" border="0" align="top"></td> <!-- This is where the trouble starts! Hi! I'm new to this site and new to HTML so please don't bash me. I really need help with a problem I have. I have four images as my buttons and links to various pages on my site. They're rectangles that spread out horizontally on my screen. However, not all computer screens are the same size, so at school for example, since the screen is smaller, the order of my links gets messed up. Is there any way to size an image so that it is 25% of a moniter? If so, could someone just like, right the code down so I may copy? I"m really bad at html. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! When I resize/drag window in IE8 and FF the screen remains perfect by getting a HR scroll bar, but Ie7 is not rendering images/divisions properly while resizing the window, all the text/menu get scrambled initially when dragging, but after refreshing it becomes perfect.. can I know why this happens? Is it problem with css or browser response/refresh time? I cannot give the link since this is an internal project hosted locally.. Any help appreciated.. Thanks I've got another problem with my website. I've taken a screenshot that I wanted for my website background. But since it was took on my screen, it doesn't fill the screen on wider monitors. I'm just wondering if there's any information on auto-resizing a website background. Or is it a scirpt/CSS/php style thing? This problem seems abit more complex than me previous problem. I'm on a 19 inch monitor. Here is my website for those that have bigger screens than me. http://www.dawncraftmc.com/ I have listed items inside a div that display just find in FF v3.0.1, but not in IE v7. Here is the link to my page. http://web.missouri.edu/~mdsybf/ Here is the CSS of a class div that surrounds the previously mentioned div. .MainEdit { clear:both; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px; font-weight: normal; color: #000000; text-decoration: none; float: left; padding-right: 10px; padding-left: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px; padding-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px; width: 700px; clear: right; display: inline; vertical-align: top; height: auto; } What is wrong with my code that makes the listed items appear outside the div box? Hi there, I have some text inside a layer and I am pretty happy with it. Trouble is that I would like to disable the resizing from the browser so that the user cannot choose a text size that would mess up my text. I am refering to "View > Text Size" in IE. Can u help? Thks hello all, I am facing a wiered pbm on text area resizing in chrome 2 and safari 4. I have on textarea which gets enabled/focus upon completion of one method (init()) . But after successful execution of init() method that text area doesnt enable user to type UNTIL user resizes the text area. I have put a css to disable the resizing of text area with resize:none style. but still the text area on chrome 2 and safari 4 isnt getting snabled/focus after init() method. Any one plz help me to solve this , will be very thank ful to him. I have even tried few options like increase the size of text area but didnt wrk, What worked is if while defining text area if I put default value , then only it focus the text area afyer init() method. But this options clashes with my requirment thanks Ani Hi everybody, I created a training/FAQ/general information website at work and now I'm trying to take the website a step further, both aesthetically and functionally. I don't have a lot of formal training in web page design or coding, so please forgive me ahead of time for my lack of knowledge. I have noticed that when some users view the website on their computer that their zoom or text settings take precedence over my code. Is the fix for this as simple as defining the text size or are there additional steps that I need to take to ensure that the text doesn't resize and my tables/menus don't run off of the visible page? Here's some quick info about my site: - It's essentially a series of documents viewed in a browser (calling it a web page, in the traditional sense, feels like I'm lying since there's no URL & no server). - It's entirely client side scripting...HTML and Javascript, with some external CSS markup. I don't have the resources or permissions to use PHP or ASP or anything like that since I'm not a computer administrator. - The only browsers being used are IE 6.0 and 7.0 Thanks for the help... Hi... I have two (hopefully simple) questions: First, is there any way to make a table resize automatically to fit a browser window regardless of the size of the window when the table contains images? I know how to make the table fit the window using <width="85%">, but that only works to a certain point. What I would like to have the image resize itself as the table shrinks. Is this possible? Also, How do I get text to wrap around an image. Like have the image in the upper left corner. Then the text would start at the top of the image directly to it's right and continue on to the bottom of the image. Then it would drop down below the image all the way to the images left edge. I hope I am asking this correctly. Thanks in advance! On my website I have a Biography page that has a lot of text. On Mozilla Firefox the text automatically fits to the screen so the viewer doesn't have to scroll from left to right to see all the text. On Internet Explorer, however, the text doesn't fit to the screen (no matter what size it is). Is there a way to fix this? I don't want to have a fixed width on my text because I want my page to just seem natural. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Hi, I'm doing a website and for my link i would like drop-down menus at the top but i want it to stay at the top when you scroll. Can anybody point me to these. I have no idea how to do drop-down menus that look good. Take a look at http://www.runehq.com/ and look at the menus at the top. I would like some like that. Help would be great. Thanks. ToshNeox Is there a way to ensure that text size renders well even if screen resolution is extreme? Thanks... Hi Folks, I am new to create static website and HTML. Chao RS HI Im making a site at the mo and im looking to keep the menu and a picture stay in the same position constantly. So when then user moves the scoll wheel only the text are will scroll. I dont want there to be any border or scroll bars around the text, so the only visable scroll bar will be the browsers... any ideas? I get how to align two sections of text, one at the left of screen and one on the right, but how do I put this line at the bottom of the screen? I tried pretty much every combination now, bottom:0, vertical-align:bottom, vertical-align:text-bottom, with and without a parent div container, nothing works! The moment I try to put the line of text at the bottom of the screen the left/right alignment would be messed up or it wouldn't show at all. It seems html only allows you to align it left/right OR bottom/top, but not both? Any help is appreciated. This is what I have so far: Code: HTML: <div style="clear:both;" id="bottom"> <p class="left">Text to go on left.</p> <p class="right">Text to go on right.</p> </div> CSS: #bottom { bottom:0; } .left { float: left; } .right { float: right; } Hi All This is my first post so i hope I provide all the info you need, to be able to help. I have a really short question (almost so small it's not even worth waste a whole thread on it!) But, here it goes When I go to my homepage: www.sp34k.dk and maybe select "blog", then I can see the link "www.sp34k.dk/blog.htm" and if it go to billeder (picture) then its www.sp34k.dk/billeder.htm. Are there any possibility for that I can do such it dosent change? So it would ALWAYS stay as "www.sp34k.dk"? Kind regards Mike Bertelsen Denmark I'm using NVU. I've got code that was generated by Omnipage - it is full of boxes and divs and spans which I don't understand yet. Anyway I'm doing alright except when I put a line of links (forward, back, index, main) in at the bottom of each of these pages, above the bottom-of-the-page 'credits', I find I can't keep them separate. I put a few carriage returns in and there's some clear space - four or five lines or more - between them. I save the file, close the file, pick the file up again and look at it and they've closed up again! Dreamweaver doesn't seem to be able to sort it out, either. You can see the pages and their code at mbccc.net and follow the 'parent information' link. regards, ab |
