HTML - Multiple Images To Span 100% Width
Hey
I would like to have a bar span the entire width of any screen, but by using 3 seperate images: <-- image goes on forever left ] [ central image ] [ image goes on forever right --> Is this possible? if so, would you kindly show me how? much love... Similar TutorialsMy problem is this: In the program I am working on, I want to put a javascript sliderbar in the horizontal top menu. The top menu is a fixed positioned <div> with the menu items (select boxes, a help etc) contained in it. Problem is: the javascript bar is enclosed in <div>s Since a div by default causes a line break before and after, the sliderbar is not included as part of the other menu items, but is displayed under them. I tried to solve this in either of 2 ways: 1.by changing the divs around the bar into spans 2.by adding a display:inline style to the div. In both methods indeed the slider bar is included into the bar as I wanted BUT I run into another problem that I can't find a solution to: The code (very simplified) looks like this: <div> // top menu ... menu item... ... menu item... <div style="display:inline; width:180px;background-image:url('sliderbox.gif')"> // the background pic with the slider box <img src="sliderbutton.jpg" ... and all kind of javascript to make the thing work ....> // the slider button that moves over the slider box </div> </div> Now what happens is this. when the div is a block object, indeed it is displayed with 180px length and the 15px button moves left-right in it. However, when the div is made inline (or when span is used) as in the code above, the div/span with the backgroundpic (that is supposed to be 180 px)collapses to the length of the button that is contained in it (15px) and the "width:180px" is totally ignored. In the documentation it says indeed that an inline tag automatically takes the width of its content. But I don't want that. I can't find a way out. Either the div with the sliderbox background is displayed as it should (180px), but then the whole sliderbar is postioned on a line by itself, or I use an inline method as above, but then the div/span collapses to the size of the button pic that it contains..... QUESTION: Is there any way to make an inline span/div have a fixed width, larger than the object it contains??? Thanks Here's what I need to do: I have several variables that I want to assign to various spans within a page (i.e. customer_name, customer_address, etc.). Now, I am going to have more than a 1 span that I dynamically need to assign the customer_name to. But I want it to be able to do so without me having to name them all "customer_name1, customer_name2, customer_name3" and then having to go through and manually change each one, one-by-one within the function. What I'd like to do is ultimately have the function loop through every span with the name or id of "customer_name" and change the innerHTML within it to whatever the value of the costomer's name variable is ("John Doe" for example). I've tried a few ways, most of the time it only changes 1 instead of all of them. Can anyone help? ere's what I need to do: I have several variables that I want to assign to various spans within a page (i.e. customer_name, customer_address, etc.). I know tables are tales of yore so I have recently dived into the world of divs. Well now I find myself with a coding issue that I could easily achieve with a table no problem. If I was using a table I could set a BG image and then I could put text over the image or another transparent image over that. I am wanting to achieve the same effect but with divs. If I am not mistaken all I have to do is create a div and float another div on top of that div however this I am finding is not as easy for the CSS beginner. Mind you I am not new to programming. So how is it done? here is a link to the site I am working on DeeJayOctane I am wanting to put text on top of the image in the nav div. But yet again this alludes me for some odd reason. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks I'm trying to do a profile layout design using multiple background images in the body. body background-image: url('http://www.geocities.com/korknup/HATEBOOK/LOGO.jpg') is it even possible to embed more than one image in the body, like an image gallery? Good Morning! (For those of us in EST) I am building a website that will have multiple languages and there are separate images for the header for each language. I was wondering if there was a more proper way of having separate header images for each page, other than having a blank header image as a place holder for the space and placing the image for each page in header space? Also, a side question. I think http://validator.w3.org wants to cut my throat when I put in this code. Here is my doctype - <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> and the code... PHP Code: <dd class="style2"><object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ylbObe9OgEM&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ylbObe9OgEM&hl=en&fs=1&autoplay=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object></dd> Did I mess up something big time? This was just the standard code from youtube. I am currently having an issue where Firefox allows my images to wrap according to window size but IE puts them one by one down the page instead of putting images side by side according to window size if they will fit. Example is that I have 5 images. 4 of the images are 350pixels X 400pixels and 1 image is 700pixels X 500pixels. I have code that loops through and gets images for each section that is setup. Then I am just displaying the image in 1 line of code which loops through and displays the images for each section. I have 5 sections setup with the five images listed above. My code then displays the section images with links to the sections. <a href="<%= lTemplateFileName %>"><%= (sectionMediaFile != null) ? sectionMediaFile : "" %></a> Firefox puts images side by side and since the 700pixel image will only fit on 1 row it puts that 1 image and then the next row shows 2 images because they will fit on that row. With IE using that code it displays each image 1 by 1 on seperate rows. I want to be able to use 1 piece of code that will allow images to wrap depending if multiple images can fit on that a row. I don't want to limit a <td> to a colspan and create a table out of it. I just want the images to display as many as it can fit on a window size and wrap the next images to the next row and so on and so on. Hello! I'm having this problem and am not sure if it can be solved: I have table with text. The text length varies as it is user-inputed. I want to have, as background, 2 graphics that encapsulate it on the vertical axis. They look like "[" and "]" but inverted. What I am aiming to do is have the text start with the "inverted-[", continue to stretch and then end with "inverted-]". How can it be done, please? There is only one TD and both graphics willl get covered with text, so I can't have one as background for the text TD and the last one just at the end without any text on it... Dear all. I see this done many times on many websites (especially comic websites) where an image has a forwards and backwards arrow button, and images selected correspondingly. Ideally I want the [img src="images/001.jpg"] file name to increase by one each time. So all I have to do is add more images in ever increasing filenames to the images folder, 002.jpg, 003.jpg etc. How do I add one to a filename and then refresh the page? Can I do this in XHTML ? Many thanks. Let me set up what my site looks like first, then I'll delve into the question. My site has frames, top frame, left frame, and a main frame. The left frame contains numerous thumbnail images that I want the user to click on and get a larger version of said image inside the main frame. The problem I'm having is I have to create a separate html page for each (larger)image (and it has become incredibly tedious), instead of just having a main.html with some sort of way of opening multiple (not more then one image at a time, but have an image replace the previous one when a new thumbnail is clicked) images inside of it. How can I do this? Would I use a div or what? I'm just learning so any help would be great. If I haven't explained well enough, I'll be happy to restate the question if you wish. Please help ! ) im creatinh a box containing a text. The box must be wide enough to fill a text. menu.style.width = tekst.length - this functioin gives the number of letters in text. So if the text is "hello" then the width is 5 pixels. But i need the widith of pixels needed to fit the text in a box. How can i do that? Hi, Is there away to force my website to fit an Iphone screen when viewed on the iphone. At the moment the width doesn't full span the Iphones screen so it looks bad. http://pjm.co.uk.uksite4.yourwebserv...splay&PageID=5 Thanks alot Joe Hi, I'd like to ask a newbie question. I've Googled this to death but as always there isn't a single view so I thought I'd ask the experts here. I have a piece of information - it doesn't really matter what it is but it is accompanied by an image. With the increase use of css sprites, I know find myself using background-image to set the image. The overall effect would look like this <image> some text. This needs to go inline and have a fixed height so that the image shows. There are also other bits of information on the same line. Do I make the containing unit a DIV and float it or make it a SPAN and use display:block? I don't particularly wan't to use display:inline on a DIV because it's not supported correctly in IE. What would you do in this case? Thanks John Hi, I have build up a mouseover functionality that shows a light gray boks around the 4 categories on the frontpage on http://www.jjas.dk. It works perfectly under all the browsers except IE6 and IE7. In this browsers I can only click on the text placed right from the picture. But when I try to click on the picture or the picture related text, nothing happens. Now, after I had used 5 days finding a solution I'm giving up. There is nothing wrong with the code at all, so why is it, that it won't work under Internet Explorer? This is the code I'm using: HTML Code: <div class="row"> <ul> <li> <a href="/produkter-og-loesninger/komponenter.aspx"> <span class="picture"> <img src="/media/3899/komponent-teaser.jpg" alt="Agenturprodukter" /> <span class="content"> <strong>Agenturprodukter</strong> <small>Vi er forhandler af flere produkter. </small> </span> </span> <span class="right_content"> <h2>Handelsvarer</h2> <small>Vi forhandler passive og perifere komponenter. Kabinetter, keyboards, displaysystemer m.v.</small> </span> </a> </li> </ul> </div> CSS Code: #top_section .row { float:left; width:948px; } #top_section .row ul { float:left; width:948px; list-style:none } #top_section .row li { float:left; width:474px; } #top_section .row li a { float:left; width:440px; padding:10px; height:145px; text-decoration:none; cursor:pointer; border:1px solid #eeeeee; } #top_section .row li a:hover { float:left; width:440px; height:145px; background:#dddddd; border:1px solid #d3d2d2; } #top_section .row li a .picture { float:left; width:220px; position:relative } #top_section .row li a .picture img { float:left; z-index: -1; } #top_section .row li a .picture .content { float:left; width:210px; background:url(../common/images/picture_content_bg.png) repeat-x 0 0; padding:5px 0 0 10px; position:absolute; bottom:0; left:0; height:41px } #top_section .row li a .picture .content strong { float:left; width:210px; font:bold 12px/14px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#fff; } #top_section .row li a .picture .content small { float:left; width:210px; font:11px/13px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#fff; padding:3px 0 5px } #top_section .row li a .right_content { float:left; width:200px; padding-left:20px } #top_section .row li a .right_content h2 { float:left; width:200px; font:bold 18px/20px Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#336699; } #top_section .row li a .right_content small { float:left; width:200px; font:12px/17px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color:#666; padding-top:3px } You can see it live on: http://www.jjas.dk/ (right under the slideshow) I really hope someone out there can help me with my problem. I guess it's pretty easy, though I haven't found the easy part yet Kind regards, Niels Kristiansen What exactly do the Span and Div tags do? I've read definitions on the web: "defines a block of text," etc., but I don't see any examples of what the difference is from normal text to text that is used using the span and div tags. Could someone provide any examples? Thanks, Brad Does anybody know how to get the grab hand image for the onmouseover event for spans? |
