HTML - How To Center Text So That It Validates
I have found out that the <center> tag </center> is now obseolete eventhough broswers still display it. I was wondering on how i go about centering text so that it does validate according to xhtml standards. Thanks.
Similar Tutorialshere is the (ineffective) code currently: <img style="float: left; width: 169px; height: 73px;" src="img/logo1.png" alt="" /> <h1 style="text-align: center;">random text</h1> the image shifts the left margin such that the text is centered as though the page width was 169px less than it really is. i'm not debating the code itself; the code above behaves as its meant to. aka no surprises. i just cant figure out the appropriate code to center the text across the entire real width of the page as though there was no image. i've tried div tags & all the things google hunting advised. no luck. other than finding this forum, which seems like it'll be a boon! thanx in advance for advise/comments/feedback/help. My teacher has given me an assignment that asks me to use target, but I guess he didn't know that target doesn't validate anymore. hey guys, In order to align text isnt the command something like this? <h3 align="center">Text Here</h3> Is this right? I know its something really simple just for some reason I cannot get my text to center in the webpage. Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance! when i center the search and quick link box at the top using a line height of 100.... it pushes the header image down 12px's... and spaces the header from the body of the page... any fix? http://www.pzproductions.com/home Hello there, My index page validates completely since I tidied it up using html tidy, but when i run it through browsershots it is still completely broken in firefox, opera, etc. basically anything other than MSIE it displays incorrectly. If anyone could shed any potential light on the situation it would be greatly appreciated. As you can no doubt tell, I'm no expert on creating web pages using html and css and if a page validates but still doesn't work I can't even begin to try and work out what is going on I did run my css through a validator and it came up with 30 or so instances of the same error, I hadn't ended a dimension value with px, i had just left the number, could this be the culprit? I have since corrected my style sheet so that it validates completely but I cannot upload from my FTP on the PC i'm currently using to see if it affects the browsershots results. I just wanted to put it out there and see what the ideas were of people who know a lot more about website building than I do. Bottom line: if i have an html page and a css page that validate 100% using the w3c standard is it guaranteed to work in all browsers, or are there quirky little things I need to be aware of when wanting my site to display correctly in less popular browsers such as safari etc.? Aligment sorted now let's get to the focus part. When the page loads I want to set the focus to the flash movie, and now I don't mean to remove that rectagle we all see in SP2 and IE7. No not that, that's easy to remove with some code. What I want is the actually focus in a text field in my flash movie. BUT, the movie is not vertically align. It still is horizontally, but not vertically. And this is my problem. If I combine the two examples, the one where the content is dead center, and the one where I set the focus to the flash movie it won't work, and I get this error: 'window.document.test' is null or not an object This page is right now on my site: http://www.danandrei.ro And if you double click on the small browser icon from the lower left corner, you know the one that shows error messajes like "DONE but with some errors". you can see what I mean. Is there a simple way to center a div horizontally? 'align="center"' works fine but it's deprecated. '<center>' works fine, but it's deprecated. 'text-align="center"' doesn't work. I've searched this site with 'center div,' and tried several things I didn't understand; none had any effect save one, which moved it to the right. This is such a basic thing, CSS ought to have a 'horizontal-align:center,' but of course it doesn't. I don't have a site for an example, as it is now I'm using 'align="center".' I',m going to rebuild it, and I'd like to get it right. Any and all help appreciated. |
