HTML - Tables Have Double Spacing In Firefox, But Perfect In Ie...
I hand coded my website myself, but whilst working perfectly in IE, there are some problems when viewing it using Firefox.
Specifically, the table rows have double-spacings (scroll down to the 'Education' section he www.lombrozo.co.uk/resume.html), and also table borders have a 3D look (a black border to emphasise the shadow), again, this shadow is not visible in IE... Any ideas anyone? Any help would be most appreciated! Similar TutorialsI've got a scanned in document that has been processed by OCR - Omnipage - and saved as html. The paragraphs often list five or six items. Most of the paragraphs are single space but some are double spaced. In the original all are single spaced. I would like them all to be single spaced. The code seems very complicated with 'spans' and 'divs' and 'box' and 'style' and long lists of parameters repeated frequently. Too frequently I imagine, machine generated stuff, but I'm not an html coder. The point is I couldn't figure out for the life of me what it was that caused one para to be double spaced and another to be single spaced. Here's a sample of the code that causes double spacing (hope its okay to put snippets of code in these posts, moderator? )
* To be informed of, and involved in, Centre Management and practices;

* To have accessibility to information about the Centre through written policies and programs; and

* To be provided with support and assistance in the parenting role.

<p What I'm planning to do now is copy the whole section and paste to notepad to get rid of all html and then pick it up again and put it back into html. I've tried NVU, Frontpage and Dreamweaver and I can't find a way in any of them to simply strip out all the crap and - obviously - I can't find a way to strip out this double spacing thing. regards, ab Hi there. I am upkeeping a website in wordpess and one of the posts has links which always appear to be double-spaced. I want them to be single-spaced. I have tried changing around the html coding and such but it has not changed the spacing. I don't know much about html so my attempts have been experimentational. The html tags in there are ul, li and a href=. I've tried taking each out to no avail. What should I do? Thank you very much for your help. I'm coding a simple HTML email in BBedit. Everything looks perfect and opens up fine in most email client, Gmail, yahoo, hotmail... all but Outlook 2007. Apparently Outlook doesn't like HTML because it keeps adding an extra space between sentences and extra spaces after all my
and
tags. Does anyone know what code I have to add to fix this issue? I've searched the web for the past two days and can't find an a clear answer. Thanks! Hi, I'm having trouble getting a few things to behave in IE. Please look at this page [the links don't work, coz none of the other pages are on the server yet]: http://napftest.org/ 1 -- On the upper left hand side, you'll see a 'Search' box. In FF, it lines up perfecly, it obeys the code which tells it to be in the 'middle' of the cell. But in IE, the search box goes to the 'top' of the cell. 2 -- At the bottom left, you'll see a drop down menu: 'Visit our Sister sites', In FF, the spacing between the text and the drop down is perfect. But in IE, there is an extra high space. Can anyone tell me why these anomolies are occurring. Usually, I've been able to figure out what's causing the difference, but here, I've tried everything, and nothing changes the behavior in IE. Thanks very much as the title suggests my web page just comes out blank when previewed in I.E but works perfectly for firefox. I have run validation tests with no error results so i have no idea what could be causing this. Hi I am very new to website design and html code therefore I cannot spot what may be a very simple error in my webpage code. The page in question is http://www.stephanieholmes.co.uk/videos.html I have made the page in dreamweaver. The content is layed out in a table 7x8 with the two outer column's rows merged to contain the left and right floral border. However, in Firefox the centre columns are displaced vertically, but this problem does not occur in IE which confuses me. Please help! Here is an image depicting what I want to do: Layout. I made the layout without 3 tables, just one, and it works fine. Here it is: 1 Table. But when I make three tables, like the picture shows, it messes all the spacing up. 3 Tables. I am doing all of this because I want to make a form and to make a form all of the fields need to be in one table. Here is how far I got with the form: 3 Tables and Form. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt **Also, the site looks better in firefox than IE, so view it in IE to see the real problems. Hello all, I have recently swapped from IE to Firefox, and realised in the process that my navigation bars have excessive spacing when displayed through firefox. The site is http://www.aboutfarthings.co.uk I have had a try but keep messing up the formatting. The site was created/is edited using Namo Web Editor 6.0 , and the nav bars are Namo standard bars. Thank you very much! Can anyone tell me why? Not sure what is going on here... Here is a link to the development site where you can see the problem I am having (I did not design it, but I am in charge of changing to html). http://www.vismarkgroup.com/dev/Kyrie/about.html Thanks!! Hi, I have a site that goes over about 3 pages in length and in the IE the page is longer than in firefox. This is really annoying when you have next to the page a sidebar that is supposed to have the same length as the page but in the IE the sidebar does not reach the end of the page (because the page is longer due to larger spacing). To me it seems that IE makes more spaces between the text lines like h1, h2, p, etc. Is this a common problem and is there any solution to this? Hi, I am designing my first website by teaching myself HTML using google, etc, so I am very new to designing from scratch (without using Dreamweaver, etc). My webpage is not online yet, so I can't post a link - sorry! First, I am using .png image files which look great in Google Chrome, but when I check my page in IE, the images look horrible - very pixelated. Why is that, and is there a way to fix them? My only thought would be to use a "smoothed out" image such as a .jpg, however that might make the problem even worse. Second, I am using frames and in my main frame I'm using a table with text on the left column and an image on the right column. Again, in Google Chrome it looks great with the text at the very top of the frame/table, but in Firefox, there is tons of space at the top of the table which makes the text too "tall" for the window, and a scroll bar is necessary. I hope I've explained this properly and would greatly appreciate your help - I have many more questions as well! Thanks so much, Kristen Hello all, I am working on a site and having 2 problems. 1. How do you center a whole table? I try table align="center" but it centers all the elements 2. I try to do table width=80% and in IE it works but it doesnt work in firefox Anyone have any ideas? There's something wrong with the tables on the site I'm currently working on.. There's no errors of any kind, but they're acting kind of odd.. I tried to make the code as clean as possible, but since this is a dynamic page, that isn't always easy. In Firefox i get a gap from time to time in the cell background of the page. But if i try to update it gets fixed. In Opera it stays like this all the time Here's a link to the page http://svolvar-jff.net/new/index.php?side=aktiviteter&id=12 This page looks fine in IE but tables are too wide in Firefox. Can anyone tell me what I need to change? http://tinyurl.com/2crnbe Thanks! Hi I need help in tables with 100%. Actually i am keeping a table with 100% fihed width in a
, but when i am minimising the IE or Firefox browser the columns are reducing , how to solve the problem I have run into a problem when using tables in Firefox. I code for IE 6.0 and I like my browser to determine when to put text on a new line once the table width has been reached. Rather than put breaks
in my text I just let the browser decide. When I open a page in Firefox it does not wrap the text within the table it just allows the text to flow to the right until the end of the text occurs. To fix this I now have to use
whenever I want a new line to begin but this creates other problems when others view my pages in IE 6 or IE 7 as the line breaks are now choppy sometimes consisting of one word on a line. My screen resolution is 1280x1024 but if someone does not have this resolution the page is a mess. I am using Dreamweaver as my editor and Firefox 2.0.0.15. Works just fine with IE 6 or IE 7. Can anyone help me with this? Here is an example of a page that I been forced to put
at the end of each line: http://www.outdoorphotographycanada.com/dwilson.html Thanks, Dave |
