HTML - All Text Content Of A Website In A Single Xml File
I'm writing my web site in Notepad++, using XHTML (source: w3schools tutorial) , and also getting into XML. This is my website. What I want to do is like this:
1) Move all the text content of my website to mywebsite.xml, organized in text blocks corresponding to each web page E.g.: I cut the text content from the HMTL of the "my profile" web page and paste it to the XML file as a text block under a suitable heading. By text content I mean all the text that is viewable, like "Autodidact. Freelance English-Spanish translator and style proofreader..." 2) Mark each text block in the XML E.g.: I mark the above mentioned text block with an id, "profile" 3) Place a link in the page's HTML to the corresponding text block in mywebsite.xml, so it calls the text when the page is loaded E.g.: where the original text content of the "my profile" page was, I place a link to the corresponding text block marked "profile", so the text is called and viewable when the page is loaded That way I'd manage text content more easily. For example, the text of my menu entries is the same in all pages. I want that when I need to modify the text of a menu entry (e.g. replacing "graphic design" by "visual art"), I can just do it in the XML file and that's all, instead of making the change in every web page. Also having all of my website's text content stored in a single file makes it easier to locate and modify strings. How can this be done? I have no clue. Thanks in advance. God bless you. I'm just using divs right now, but what I don't like is having to have the same page for every page. I only want the content to change, but for some reason I'm not feeling iframes. But if that's my only option, I'll sure go with it. For the drawings page, I was going to use a gallery script and have them all right there. I want it to be very minimal and simple. Then for the blog I don't really know what to do, and for the guestbook I don't know what to do. Like I said, I want everything to be really nice and simple and preferably integrated. Now they've given me the link I need to set up my store within my website, but I need to know how and what is needed to build the HTML/CSS page so that the store works. They salso said that I am able to skin the storefront with my websites look. So is just the very basics of an HTML page needed for an affiliate link to work? Or is it going to be something more advanced? Hi everyone. I am new to this forum and have very basic HTML knowledge. I've set up a page at http://www.freudiansliprecording.com/thelastsupper which, as it is coded now, automatically plays a goofy 5 second MP3 audio file when the page loads. What I would like to do is have the page randomly choose between 2 or three different of these very short MP3 audio clips and play one of them (and only one of them) when a visitor first comes to this page. So I hope I enjoy my time here Now, onto my question. I have all my files stored on my computer (.htm + graphics + other junk), and have already purchased a domain. I was wondering how to upload these files onto my site, and get my site going. I understand that I need to purchase a hosting service. I tried that, and didn't understand what to do. I uploaded all my files with the uploader provided, including the index.htm files, and nothing happened. I was then sent to filezilla - some kind of FTP someting (I don't even know what FTP is), and I had no idea what to do with that software. help please? Anyway, onto the point... I want to make an area to put all of my content like text and images and what not in that main area but I don't really have any idea how to do it. Also the background image isn't showing up in firefox, so if you have any idea how to fix that let me know. But for now I guess you have to look at it in IE. Also, I will be having galleries under the evergreen, perennials, etc. tabs, and I think I want to use lightbox, but I don't know much about it. So any tips with that would help. A lot of them are just textual changes and I would think my customers can do these themselves by editing a simple .txt file. I was hoping my choices are avalable so that I can just insert this tag into my web pages and then give them login info to their edit page or show them how to upload the .txt file. We produced a commercial about 1.5 years ago and would like to put it on the website. The problem is I don't know how, and really, if its at all possible. Also, the file may be too large, about 3 minutes long. The problem is that my advertisers might change sometimes and i don't want to update all the pages each time i decide to go for some other advertiser so i tought i should use another html file that would be displayed on all the 3500 pages and each time i would modify this file, it would update on all the 3500 pages. I would like the page to be search engine friendly too, if possible. Also don't want to use frames. So there would be small window 200 x 200 in size that would display the content of the seperate file on all these 3500 pages. So how should i do this, would java script be something to consider? I don't know much about php and would not like to use it, what would be the easyest way to do this? Also there can not be any borders in this window and it needs to be embedded in to all these 3500 pages, in exact size of 200 x 200. This system needs to work in IE, Firefox, netscape and opera!! One purpose of my website is: I want to embed a macro enabled excel file (i.e., an excel file like "***.xlsm]") into my website so that visitors can use the excel file to do some calculation. What I'd like is to have a silhouette of a few people on a gradient background. I'd like to keep the quality high, but it also makes the file size large. If there were no silhouette then I would have a one pixel strip of the gradient set to repeat. Is it possible to add two background pictures, or is there another way I can reduce the file size that I hadn't thought of? |
