HTML - Question About Dropdown Lists Using The Optgroup And Option Tags
I have created a drop down selection list using PHP that will allow users to create the elements of the selection list and organize them
them under user defined catagories, by typing the names of the catagory and entry into fields and clicking a button to add them to the list. By clicking on the entries on the list the user will be able to cause user defined actions to be performed. Just as an example, the user could create the following drop down selection list: Car manufacturers Ford Mercedes Honda Motorcycle manufacturers Harley Davidson Suzuki Honda The problem comes when I try to allow the user to delete an entry by clicking on it and then clicking a delete button.] As you can see from the example above, the word "Honda" appears under two optgroup catagories. If the user clicks on the second one, there is currently no way for the PHP script to distinguish which "Honda" entry they mean. In fact the script would go through the list and delete the fist one it comes across, which is the wrong one. How can I send the value of the optgroup that an entry is listed under along with the entry itself, so that they script can identify which entry the user is clicking on? I tried some tags in the optgroups but they don't seem to get sent to the server. Similar TutorialsI have two dynamic, dependant dropdown lists. DropdownList2 is going to be populated based on the dropdownlist1 option selected. I already know how to do it. The second dropdown list is needs to get the data from oracle table connection. And I do not know how to do it this using a java script function. THANKS A LOT! What I have is: <script language="JavaScript"> function PopulateList2() { Help needed here to populate my ListNumber 2 depending of the List Number 1 option selected. Options are in oracle table. } <tr> <td> <select onchange="populatelist2();" class="searchtext" name="list1" > <option selected value="">Select list1 ----Populating list1 here using oracle data connection---- </select> <select class="searchtext" name="List2" > <option value="">Select List2 </select> </td> </tr> Hi, I need a dropdown menu where I can assign a different link to each option (and when the option is chosen that link is opened in the same window), it should be as simple as possible so it works on the majority of browsers and doesn't get blocked by various utilities that block java/scripting and all that stuff... I don't mind if the user has to press a 'submit' button or whatever. What's the best way to do this? Thanks. Hi folks, I would really like to create a list that looks like this: A1) Item 1 A2) Item 2 A3) Item 3 ... The A ties in to a "type A" something, and another list with B1, B2, B3, etc. items will be tied into a "type B" something, and so on. So far I haven't been able to figure out how to do this. I can make an (A, B, C) or (a, b, c) or (i, ii, iii) or of course (1, 2, 3) list, but none of these will serve my purposes. I very specifically need an (A1, A2, A3) list. Am I pretty much stuck doing this manually with a table or is there a way to accomplish what I'm after using the list or order list tags? Does CSS provide a means? Hello All! Is there a way to specify "no-indent" on the <optgroup> tag. When using this tag, all the options get indented and it wastes a lot of space on the screen. Any ideas would be great. Example: <select name="blah"> <optgroup label="hello"> <option style="color: #ff0000" value="test">test</option </optgroup> </select> as you can see, the style tag works for color, but I can't find any css that will put the indent to zero. thanks. Hi, I hope I am posting this in the right place. I would like to insert the <h> tags to headings & sub headings in certain areas of a web page. But if I place the <h> tag next to the word or phrase that is relevant, it increases the font size. Am I ok to have the code like below or will the SE’s read everything between the tags, including the code & confuse the whole thing. Its just a case of wanting to not have the text as large as some of the <h> tags want to make it. <center><h1><font face="arial" size="3" color="000000"><b>My text here</b></font></h1></center> Hope you can help! Many thanks. Chris. Is this a valid format ? <a name="xxxx"><!-- --></a> I ask because it works in all browsers I use but not with IE 8 (Beta). I'm not sure if this is a bug in IE 8 or whether the syntax is strictly valid. If I use or space this will work in IE8 but again I am not sure if it is valid Thanks Harvey I've seen basic META tags for things such as Author, Keywords, Description, and Copyright (I think that's all of them). So I was wondering what are all the different META Tags and what do they do? I'm not sure if I'm using them correctly or not. Mod - Please Delete I have both <div id="images"></div> and <form> on the right column of my page. I want to overlap the two of them, because the form is hidden so that when the viewer clicks on "contact us" the images div will disappear then the form appears, through behaviors. But the form is below the images div tag, so when I click on contact us, the images disappear, but the form appears on the bottom of the image div tag, its suppose to take the place of the images div tag instead. _________ Hi all. I'm designing a website and for the first time using div tags. The style is controlled by CSS. I'm trying to get 2 div tags to be positioned next to each other, side by side. How do I do this, I just can't get it to work. Thanks I've designed a web page using WebEasy and I'm going to have to insert the meta tags manually. I've figured out where the code has to go and I know the code has to be something like this: <meta name="keywords" content="keyword, keyword, keyword"> Anyway, my question is what if the keywords don't all fit on one line? Do I let it wrap around like this: <meta name="keywords" content="keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword, keyword"> Or do I start a new line, like this: <meta name="keywords" content="keyword, keyword, keyword"> <meta name="keywords" content="keyword, keyword, keyword"> Thanks Oh, and if I change the meta tags do I have to resubmit my site to google? Thanks I am trying to build a simple, compliant HTML dropdown menu that allows users to click a "go" button which will act as a link to a new page. In my site a user rolls down to the correct state and then hits the go button. This sends the user to a web page for that state. Maybe what I'm trying to do is so easy that nobody ever thought to explain it. But I can't find an answer anywhere. Here is a basic version of my code. Thanks in advance for any help!!!!! Code: <form action=""> <select name="states"> <option value="alabama.html">Alabama</option> <option value="Alaska.html">Alaska</option> <option value="Arizona.html" selected="selected">Arizona</option> </select> <input type="submit" value="Go"> </form> Hi I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I want to know if it possible to make a drop down menu and then when you click on the content inside it adds it to a plain text field. This is for a form I'm making for my website...I just don't know how to do this. Oh and a button to remove the content again. Any help is appreciated. Thank you i'm looking for a cheap way out of making collapse/expand code. i've learned a lot of 'ghetto' techniques n thought mayb i can use something similar to the html tricks i've learned in the past. the theory i have is.. i use the title of the collapse/expand text as a link to the text below it to open and close by using the navigating tags: Code: <a name="content">opening/closing text here</a> and the title above the content: Code: <a href="#content">Title</a> to open the area of text. now my idea of a shortcut around the whole css/html/javacript combo is to make the text below it use a Code: <font size=0>content</font> at default and have the href title link change the font size to the default 9pt but I don't know if that's even possible. Is it possible with the Code: <div> tags? and if so, using that, would i still b able to make a link like that? Is it possible to trigger the action of a form with a submit button that's outside the form tags? If so, how should this example be rescripted to make the input tag work outside the form tags?
<html> <body> <form name="input" action="html_form_action.asp" method="get"> First name: <input type="text" name="FirstName" value="Mickey" /><br /> Last name: <input type="text" name="LastName" value="Mouse" /><br /> <input type="submit" value="Submit" /> </form> </body> </html>
Hi, I am using css to create a dropdown menu. It works fine in all browsers except IE6. In IE6 a dropdown list covers the dropdown menu. please see the atachment/screenshot. Here is the html/css code I am using. Thanks in advance Hello, I've been working on my website recently and I've found a problem that I have no idea how to fix. I have an unordered list that serves as the menu on the left of the site. I've been trying to remove the black dots that come with the unordered list. They only show up on the first one and they blemish the site. I want to keep it with a list because it allows for pleasing aesthetics in combination with my CSS (link hover changes the color). Is there a way I can keep the same look and get rid of the dots? Code: <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" /> <title>Bob's Page</title> </head> <body> <center> <img class="center" src="img/banner.jpg"></center> <div class="left"> <ul> <li><a href="index.html">Home</a></li> <li><a href="about.html">About</a></li> <li><a href="products.html">Products</a></li> <li><a href="mailto:robert.t.adams5@gmail.com">Contact Me</a></li> </ul> </div> <div class="right"> <p>Text goes here. </div> </body> </html> look at it he http://eco-heater.bobadams.x10hosting.com Hello, I am new here and hope someone can help. I am creating a page where I need to have several nested lists. The 'numbering' is showing up correctly but the 'nested' lists are not indented. Can anyone take a look at the page and my source code and see if you can help me figure out what is wrong? go to http://www.prewrath.com/index2.html Thank you! bzig I have some drop down list tests I am playing with he http://www.my-plague.net/list.php There are a few thing I need help with: 1) If I don't put a "select" url, if go is clicked on I get a server error. I just want it to do nothing. e.g. with the header. 2) If I put a style for a "select" that has no url, then the list reverts to a square more box-like shape. 3) I want to make the go button open the urls in a new window. 4) I don't know what the js code at the end does because it still works without it (found the code in a tutorial) : Code: <script language="JavaScript"> <!-- function gotoLink(form) { var OptionIndex=form.ListBoxURL.selectedIndex; parent.location = form.ListBoxURL.options[OptionIndex].value;} //--> </script> I put this code in : <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org.TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>My first web page</title> </head> <body> <h1>My first web page</h1> <h2>What this is</h2> <p>A simple page put together using HTML</p> <h2>Why this is</h2> <u1> <li>To learn HTML</li> <li> To show off <o1> <li>to my boss</li> <li>to my friedns</li> <li>to my cat</li> </o1> </li> <li>Because I've fallen in love with my computer and I want to give her some HTML lovin</li> </u1> </body> </html> I'm not getting the indentation or the numbers for the ordered list. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
