HTML - Uploading Content Onto Website
hi! Firstly I would like to state my first impression about this site. Judging the activity of members by the amount of posts I can see that this is the best place to discuss anything website-related. So I hope I enjoy my time here
Now, onto my question. I have all my files stored on my computer (.htm + graphics + other junk), and have already purchased a domain. I was wondering how to upload these files onto my site, and get my site going. I understand that I need to purchase a hosting service. I tried that, and didn't understand what to do. I uploaded all my files with the uploader provided, including the index.htm files, and nothing happened. I was then sent to filezilla - some kind of FTP someting (I don't even know what FTP is), and I had no idea what to do with that software. help please? Similar TutorialsHi, I'm just about to upload my website and was wondering how it works. I'm going to be using filezilla. What i'm not sure about is how do I define what page shows up as my home page. Do I need to put the web address inside the HTML code, or name the file before uploading. I was also unsure about what I need to write at the top of my HTML pages, I;ve copied and pasted an example form a webpage I have open at the moment: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html lang="en-US" xml:lang="en-US" xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> Can anyone explain what this means?? I hope this will make sense to someone Thanks in advance Dyfrig Hey everyone, I'm the owner of a small business who had a website made recently. Unfortunately, I felt the style of the designer wasn't what I was looking for so we parted ways. So, basically I am left with a mostly done website, including code for a sliding bar of pictures (sorry for the non-technical phrases) for the online shop section of the site. My problem is I don't know how to upload pictures to the bar! Right now all it has is a "coming soon" picture. Can anyone help? URL is: http://outoftheblue.ca/newarrivalsOOTB.html Thanks! Can anyone offer advice as to how do I go about uploading my music to my music webiste. www.discomixdownload.com I am currently running the "easybe 1-2-3 music shop software. They e-mailed me ftp up directories, but I don't know how to go about the whole music file upload process.?. I website is hosted by a www.fastdomain.com Truly D.J.mixhypnatist. 06/21/2008 Hey All, don't know if you can help but, my website address is: http://glycemicindexandweightloss.com if you look at the source page you will see that all of the coding is there but the website site states that it is formatted incorrectly. and none of the content shows up. If anyone can take a quick look at this and possibly see something off I would really appreciate it. thanks in advance. Michelle I know I'm probably going to get ridiculed for this being my first post, but I can't seem to find any help elsewhere. I browsed the forum a bit before posting but didn't really know what to look for. OK so this the first website I've ever made and I only have limited html knowledge but so far this is what I have. www.freewebs.com/maurerrj Here is the html: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html> <!-- Created with the CoffeeCup HTML Editor 2007 --> <!-- http://www.coffeecup.com/ --> <!-- Brewed on 1/15/2007 4:28:49 PM --> <head> <title></title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- .{background: #D6D3C0;}.{background-image: url(http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3373/newbackground4qp5.jpg);background-repeat: repeat-y;background-position: center;} --> </style> </head> </style><body topmargin="0"> <div align="center"> <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr><td colspan="0" width="750"><img height="223" src="http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/7681/banner5im9.jpg" width="724"><td></td> <tr><td colspan="0" width="750"><img height="19" src="http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7290/fillervh5.jpg" width="724" border="0"><td></td> <tr height="0"><td colspan="0" width="750"><img height="11" src="http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3912/spacer1hs9.jpg" width="724"><td></td> <tr><td valign="top" width="153"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="153"> <tr><td><img height="36" src="http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1838/filler2qj3.jpg" width="153" border="0"></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/9990/home1pp8.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8751/conifersls9.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/7016/grassesbf3.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5920/shrubsvf9.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/2730/perennialszy4.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/4079/troughgardenskr9.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5199/directionsae8.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr></table></div> </body> </html> Anyway, onto the point... I want to make an area to put all of my content like text and images and what not in that main area but I don't really have any idea how to do it. Also the background image isn't showing up in firefox, so if you have any idea how to fix that let me know. But for now I guess you have to look at it in IE. Also, I will be having galleries under the evergreen, perennials, etc. tabs, and I think I want to use lightbox, but I don't know much about it. So any tips with that would help. The lightbox website is http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/ Any help you can give me is TRULY appreciated. I'm writing my web site in Notepad++, using XHTML (source: w3schools tutorial) , and also getting into XML. This is my website. What I want to do is like this: 1) Move all the text content of my website to mywebsite.xml, organized in text blocks corresponding to each web page E.g.: I cut the text content from the HMTL of the "my profile" web page and paste it to the XML file as a text block under a suitable heading. By text content I mean all the text that is viewable, like "Autodidact. Freelance English-Spanish translator and style proofreader..." 2) Mark each text block in the XML E.g.: I mark the above mentioned text block with an id, "profile" 3) Place a link in the page's HTML to the corresponding text block in mywebsite.xml, so it calls the text when the page is loaded E.g.: where the original text content of the "my profile" page was, I place a link to the corresponding text block marked "profile", so the text is called and viewable when the page is loaded That way I'd manage text content more easily. For example, the text of my menu entries is the same in all pages. I want that when I need to modify the text of a menu entry (e.g. replacing "graphic design" by "visual art"), I can just do it in the XML file and that's all, instead of making the change in every web page. Also having all of my website's text content stored in a single file makes it easier to locate and modify strings. How can this be done? I have no clue. Thanks in advance. God bless you. Bethan Hi friends , I want to upload the contains of the text file on jsp or html page . I can able to do it on desktop application using File handling function in java but not getting how to do it to upload the contains of text file on html page . And the contains of the text file is getting updated at every hour which also need to be reflected on the page . I want that all the contains get visibled on html page as it is in text file , without changing format Thanks Hello everyone. I'm new to HTML and experimenting... I have a domain www.thomgreg.com linux hosted by godaddy. I've started going thru "Head First HTML with CSS & XHTML" and am in chapter 2. On my local computer the pages displayed fine but after uploading to the server the text displays but the images do not. I have all the images and html files in the same directory, a directory called "html" directly off of root. the img src element I'm using is: <img src="drinks.jpg"> and, again, drinks.jpg and index.html are in the same directory. The home page displays without the image though...!! Also if I try to show the drinks.jpg directly by using www.thomgreg.com/html/drinks.jpg I get a page cannot be found error. Any ideas...? Thanks...! I use frontpage to edit my page (so I can view it before uploading it to the web) It shows exactly the way I want it when I save it and view it on my HD but once I upload it to the server... it's the same... Then when I edit it again and upload the "update".... it's messed up. Could anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Thanks Lace The title sounds kind of odd.
