HTML - Detecting Adobe Reader On Client Computer
I've got a website under construction at www.banffridgeestates.com. On the design plans page (www.banffridgeestates.com/design_plans.htm), I've got 9 thumbs for the user to click on and a PDF file opens in Adobe Reader. But just in case the user doesn't have Adobe Reader or some other PDF viewing application, is there a way for me to program the link so that it detects whether the user has such an application, and to open a JPEG if he doesn't have one?

As some of you may or may not know I'm still fairly new in web designing. Recently I started making a small website for my friend who wanted a homepage for his small gaming community. While making this webpage I kept checking the validators (for css and markup) and it all came up fine. I wanted to display some "latest news" from the news blog I set up and I don't know much about stylizing and displaying rss (even after reading a few pages) so i used that website. After I added it in it came up with a bunch of errors (mostly the ampersand error and the "language=javascript" error). I wanted to know if there was a possible way to fix this? I tried changing the "language=javascript" part into "type=javascript" but the feed stops displaying if i do that.. Anyone know of an inexpensive and SEO friendly way to display book pages in an online html reader? I am developing a bookstore website where people can read the entire book online before buying, and the option of using an online flash-based PDF reader doesn't work for SEO. In the html format, the books would have to be displayed page by page so people couldn't steal and distribute the entire book easily. Is the only way to do this by programming every page or is there a program, script or compiler that is good for SEO and will do the job cheaply? My current Major is Integrative Media which web design falls under but none of my professors know anything about coding. I've probaly wasted 10 hours alone on trying to center the page with the drop down menu's. I am searching for an experienced person in Adobe, HTML and a few other codes to help me(Small reward might be given out ^_^). I've spent like 50 hours on this and gotten nowhere. I've searched the internet indepth for answers but I've had 0 success. Here are the lists of problems I have. I made drop down menus in Fireworks. This has been effecting how I can center my whole webpage. <Div Takes aren't working> Ive trade Align="center" in the DIV tag. Styles Margin Left Auto and Margin Right Auto didn't work. Even if I could center the page it wouldn't help cause I don't know how to center the JSS file with the page. I'm trying to find an easy way to move around flash tables. I don't wanna use padding(for reasons I can explain). The only way I've seen is to cut your webpage up in photoshop and leave spaces for the Tables. I am wondering if there are any other ways. I'm also trying to make news bars that Call titles from my sites forum. 0 Idea how to do this. I have more questions but don't feel like ranting. My assumption was that I'd have to go with Adobe. However, after reading a few comments on here, there are some who consider it to be too expensive given that there are other options out there which could also be better. The problem is in my situation is that when I put in a code in the CODE and it comes out in the DESIGN, it's screwed up. But when I view it in IE or FF, it's how I want it. What I want to do is embed one of those little media players in my bulletins so the song plays when someone opens the bulletin up... the file is not on a website anywhere, it is on my computer in mp3 format (i believe) so here is my question(s) How do i get the mp3 in html format? and how do I embed a music player into a mysapce bulletin? ______________ notes: Through My Documents I've opened up the file in InternetExplorer in hopes that I could use that html address...... the media player DID show up in the Myspace bulletin, however, the music would not playback (when I hit the play button it just said "stopped."
