HTML - Aligning Content On Div Layout.
All right. This may be simple for some people so hopefully I can get some help. Please have a little bit of patience because I'm not positive how to explain exactly to where people will actually understand me. I will, however, try my very best to explain the best I can. If you have any questions about what I'm asking, feel free to ask me...
I'm making a hatelisting. They're not huge sites so they only require a very simple layout. Okay, easy. I have the layout set up (except the links) and I have the HTML and CSS ready (well, CSS prepared for editting). I know where I want the layout to align and such... Everything like tha is finished. http://www.lume-di-luna.net/test/index.html As you can see, it looks okay. Nothing big and fancy, something simple. ONE LITTLE DETAIL. The content of the website is just suppose to be in the black part, not the white. The white is just a border. But the only way I ever knew how to align the text was it would be the same size as the size of the background image. http://www.lume-di-luna.net/test/bg.jpg This is the background image. You can only see the black, but there is 10px of white on each side. That's the only way I have figured out so far to get the white border to work and the background as well. I want to align the content so it's only in the black, not the white. I searched everywhere and nothing will help me at all. I'm sure HTML and CSS will have to be involved to get it to work. I've searched multiple ways on google and looked around HTML/CSS help sites and nothing will help me at all. While doing that, I've also been trashing some of the old layouts and trying to make my website more clear & surmountable, both for the search engines & the surfing user. When working on the links page, I ran into problems though. The table and images simply didn't do the same I wanted them to do, and I've been trying several re-designs to make things alright again. Here is what I've got until now (Image Removed): (A) The content on the website, is not taking 100% width & height. If I use 100% & 100% height on the page, I'll just get this. (B] The table needs the same width as the body (100%). But I am still unable to use neither width or height, as it looks like they don't really do any matters in this case. There must be a bug somewhere inside the HTML or CSS Code, that makes this page very hard to give layout. I just cannot find it myself, so I am asking for your help. It can be because I am using a wrong attribute or tag to create the layout of my website, but I am sure that you got more knowledge on that area, than I. But the content div, when needed to be higher than the menu div, will overflow its content past the container divs bg. As well the footer will only clear past the menu div, not the content div. HELP! Thanks Hello, I ran into this problem today in my Basic XHTML class, and it was enough to stump me and the instructor: if you want to put an unordered list in the middle of a page, but you want the list items to be left-aligned so the bullets are one on top of the other...how do you do it? I started with code something like <div align="center"> <ul type="disc"> <li>Wine</li> <li>Women</li> <li>Song</li> </ul> </div> This centers the list on the page, but it also centers each list item. I tried placing a <div align="left"> around the list items, individually and collectively, but depending on the positioning it either had no effect or it nullified the center attribute completely and gave me a left-aligned list on the left edge of the page. Attempts to change the style of the <li> tag, which I haven't done in months and was never all that good at, failed. I know I can do this in ten seconds by putting the list inside a one-cell table, and with much fiddling I could probably do it with a spacer GIF...but what's the 1.0 Strict way? How would i go about aligning everything on a page so instead of starting on the very left of the page, it starts X amount of pixels away from the side? Also how can i adjust the space between each line of text? However, when I apply it to my own list I run into a problem and i can't see the problem. Ive got a table which is say 40 pxls high, ive split it into 2 columns and on the left I have text links and on the right im trying to put an H1 tag. Anyway when I convert my text into an H1 tag its like its been top aligned in the table and obviously I want it to sit vertically in the centre. Ive tried changing alignment options in dreamweaver with no effect. The text links in the left hand column display normally also. Thanks! Hello there i have just created a simple website using div tags as layers to position link elements on the page. I have 2 pages the first page has an image link that takes the user to the second page and the image link has been aligned in a div tag to position it onto the screen. When i test the first page in most browsers the aligning seems to be perfect and is aligning well in all browsers. The problem im facing is on the second page, i have done exactly the same procedure to align a form element and an image link but when published and previewed in safari it is aligned perfectly but in most other browsers the div aligning for the form and the image link are not aligned at all. i cant figure out this problem because the first page is done exactly the same way and that works in all browsers, could someone please please have a look for me its probably something really simple but i cant see it. Hey All, So I have this frustrating situation illustrated by this screeny: www.kiddyjunction.ca/images/pic.jpg The yellow box (which is an iframe) aligns to center itself between those beige flash tabs on the left, and the other side of the white box, which is PERFECT. However, the logo, represented by the red box, aligns itself to be in the center of the white box, instead of between the edge and the flash material, despite all being in the same container. Hi, I seem to have lost the code I had for aligning text. I know it's simple, can someone help me. Take a look at my newsletter at http://www.ilovejesus.com/lot/awesomebks/news.shtml. You will note the text is not lined up correctly with the book covers. I don't want it to be completely lined up like a newspaper, just look a little better than it does. Thanks. |
