HTML - Included Header Bleeding Into Main Content
Hello-
I'm having a problem with my header. When I first started building this dumb thing, it was in IE7. Everything was looking fine with that, and then I tried to switch to Firefox, and nothing was where it should have been. My doctype wasn't valid, which is now fixed. Anyway, the problem. When I put the header content into the page's html, it displays like it should, but when the header is in a separate file, it leaks down into the main page. I browsed the forum a bit before posting but didn't really know what to look for. OK so this the first website I've ever made and I only have limited html knowledge but so far this is what I have. www.freewebs.com/maurerrj Here is the html: Code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <html> <!-- Created with the CoffeeCup HTML Editor 2007 --> <!-- http://www.coffeecup.com/ --> <!-- Brewed on 1/15/2007 4:28:49 PM --> <head> <title></title> <style type="text/css"> <!-- .{background: #D6D3C0;}.{background-image: url(http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3373/newbackground4qp5.jpg);background-repeat: repeat-y;background-position: center;} --> </style> </head> </style><body topmargin="0"> <div align="center"> <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr><td colspan="0" width="750"><img height="223" src="http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/7681/banner5im9.jpg" width="724"><td></td> <tr><td colspan="0" width="750"><img height="19" src="http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/7290/fillervh5.jpg" width="724" border="0"><td></td> <tr height="0"><td colspan="0" width="750"><img height="11" src="http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/3912/spacer1hs9.jpg" width="724"><td></td> <tr><td valign="top" width="153"><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" width="153"> <tr><td><img height="36" src="http://img260.imageshack.us/img260/1838/filler2qj3.jpg" width="153" border="0"></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/9990/home1pp8.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/8751/conifersls9.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/7016/grassesbf3.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/5920/shrubsvf9.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img86.imageshack.us/img86/2730/perennialszy4.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/4079/troughgardenskr9.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr> <tr><td><a href="#"><img height="22" src="http://img91.imageshack.us/img91/5199/directionsae8.jpg" width="153" border="0"></a></td></tr></table></div> </body> </html> Anyway, onto the point... I want to make an area to put all of my content like text and images and what not in that main area but I don't really have any idea how to do it. Also the background image isn't showing up in firefox, so if you have any idea how to fix that let me know. But for now I guess you have to look at it in IE. Also, I will be having galleries under the evergreen, perennials, etc. tabs, and I think I want to use lightbox, but I don't know much about it. So any tips with that would help. The lightbox website is http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox2/ Any help you can give me is TRULY appreciated. Hello, I'm working on a site, but have run into a problem I'm not sure how to deal with. The contents of the footer area of the page are centered within a Div as you can see at the url: http://www.mylessinclair.com/testsite/ However, I think it might be easier on the eye if the links and content were centered underneath the main content panel. I'm trying to avoid the use of tables in achieving this, so I'm thinking that I need two Divs side by side for the footer. One 150px wide as in the side bar above it, marked up as float left - and then just center the footer contents in the other Div ? Am I on the right track here, or is it a bit more complicated? Hope someone can advise. Many thanks, Myles Hello I'm trying to work out a way of allowing my main content to increase without it stretching my nav and ruining the formatting. I have a table, 2 columns, 10 rows, cell spacing 4 I've set the main content (right) to span all 10 rows. I want to be able to increase the main content without it stretching my rows. Row height set to 40px. My answer so far has been to add an 11th row, turn it white and set the height so that the combined height of the cells in the left had column matches the height of the right hand one. This is fine, but a bit of nuisance if you want numerous pages where the main content takes up a different amount of space. Is there anyway to set the 11th cell on the left hand column to stretch along with my main content, without it messing up the height of the 10 calls above? You'd think you'd be able to set it to height = 100% or something, but apparently not. Many thanks, monki I understand that external CSS is great and a better choice, however, I am using a script that has many functions I need and is written this way. So I just want to finish up with what I have , instead of re-write this script. An "in-line css" suggestion worked fairly well except that I have a gap between the white background and the Header, and the white background and the Footer. Can someone help me eliminate this gap so the white background extends all the way to the Header and Footer, please? Here is the code, and I've attached an image for visual aid. Thanks! For this you should have a user-friendly, interactive and professional looking website. This is the first step to start a successful internet marketing process. Those who don’t have websites can ask for web design services from a professional web designing firm. Here are a few important things that you should prepare before contacting a web design firm. Those who are planning to make a website should first create a good portfolio of their works. The portfolio should contain a detailed list of all the happy clients of the company. If the company has a good customer base which can be shown clearly in the portfolio, it would be the best method to advertise the services of the company. You should also give a comprehensive idea about the location of the company and the detailed addresses of the various offices of the company. This will increase the credibility of the company among the visitors. You can prepare detailed pages for the services/products section where you can include all the details related to it. Make it a point to say about the uniqueness that your firm has, as it helps a lot in marketing your products/services. It can be a newest technology or service that you offer, the method of delivery of products/services, or the widespread network that your company has. You can approach a web designer to know more about the things which can be included your website. Hi guys, I have a problem with HTML I've not experienced before relating to include files. I'm running IIS on Windows XP Pro and have an HTML file with a single include (this isn't the actual project I'm working on but a test I picked up off the web to demonstrate the problem) Test.html: - <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> <title>Untitled Document</title> </head> <body> <!--#include file="testinc.htm"--> <br>To see this work. </body> </html> Testinc.htm: - ************************************************** ***** This is a test ************************************************** ***** When I open, in IE, http://localhost/test.html all I see is the text "to see this work". If I view the source, it is identical to test.html (ie, the include is in the source which would signify to me that it's been picked up as a comment). I've tried replacing Include File with Include Virtual (not that it should make any difference in this case as they're both located in wwwroot) but to no avail. Any ideas what's missing? Cheers in advance. So.. whats wrong? Im a total noob.. and it isnt even that I started from scratch.. some of it was already there. Appreciate your advice I am working on an index page with menu for a friend and originally did the page an menu separately....I was able to get them to work together but when i do the In-Dreamweaver preview does not work...This is very important because she will need the preview to make her changes... Everything looks fine upon viewing in browser but no preview.... I think it probably has something to do with me using two different body tages with two different csses....Can somebody take a look and see if they can find my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! You can view an online version at: http://www.firstpresgreenville.org/NEWFPATEST/menu.html THIS PROBLEM IS WITH --IE-- ONLY I have this piece of code that I simplified as much as I could to show a simple example: PHP Code: <table width="50%"> <tr><td colspan="2">short</td></tr> <tr> <td width="128"><img src="" width="110"></td> <td>a<br>a<br>a</td> </tr> </table> <table width="50%"> <tr><td colspan="2">long long long long long long long</td></tr> <tr> <td width="128"><img src="" width="110"></td> <td>a<br>a<br>a</td> </tr> </table> For some reason when long-long-long text is long enough, it pushes a-a-a-a to the right even through one of the cells is limited to 128 pixels.. If I color the backgrounds of the cells in different colors, it is evident that it is the cell pushing, not text-alignment problem Question, why the cell is affected but the upper cell text length even through it is properly col-spanned..? Hey all (And thanks to all who helped in my last post).. http://wessell.net/david/project/newdesign/index.php I'd like to put a shadow around the left and the right, of the entire box (Including headers and footers).. But I'm at a tad of a loss. I'm finding a lot of information on shadows on pictures, using CSS.. I'd be interested in any suggestionons as to which way to go.. Thanks! David I'm getting rid of my index.html file, and replacing it with a brand new index.php file. But I have a problem... I have a forum which has an index.php file... If I rename my websites index.php file to homepage.php, am I able to have that page load up when someone visits my website, or does it have to be named index.php? |
