HTML - Are There Any Iframe Alternatives W/o Scroll?
I'm in the process of making a page where the menu/navigation is on the left, and to the right of it is the content area. I'm planning on using an iframe like I have in the past, so that the only place that reloads every time you click a menu option is the content area.
The thing is, for the first time this website will have more content than my others, in which case a scroll bar would appear for just the content iframe ... is there any way around having this scroll bar appear? I would rather the height of the iframe just continue to extend as far down as the actual content goes, then stop. This way, the only scrollbar that appears on the webpage is the main scroll bar on the side of the browser. Is this possible with the iframe? if not, is there a better alternative?? please help!! EDIT: Edit: Okay, so I found a script that actually works but now I have another tiny problem. This is the code I found that works: http://www.milonic.com/mfa/2005-Apri...djustment.html But see on the javascript code it has a section that says "//extra height in px to add to iframe in FireFox 1.0+ browsers" ... this code actually does add extra unwanted space at the bottom of the iframe... extends it further than necessary. But I can't find the part where I can adjust/remove this? Could someone help me out with this?? Similar TutorialsHi, i need to add a box to the bottom of every product page of my site, (latest updates) kind of thing, i thought of an iframe, but it can't have borders, it needs to be invisible, or slight borders but no scroll bars. So i can update the contents of a "updates.htm" file and the results will be reflected on every page the iframe thing is on. kinda the same effect the "latest updates" boxes do on filehippo.com, go to an actual download page and you'll see, latest updates and most popular, i want a similar thing, using css if possible. Does anyone know where i might find a guide to that? It's for my download center of i-CONICA.net. Thanks. I'm currently developing a website using iframes and was wondering if it's possible to have an iframe's scroll bar tied to the actual browser scroll bar (the main scroll bar to the right in case I'm not explaining this well). The iframe in question is in the direct center of the page and the scroll bar for it makes it very ugly. I had a thought on maybe making the iframe's height scale with the size of it's src page so that it would never even need to have a scroll bar but I don't know how to do that. Any help would be appreciated... Hopefully none of these questions are really stupid. I've been doing this for about a week and am still trying to get my bearings. Thanks Hello dear forum, This is a big one, and I need some serious help. Have been trying to figure this one by myself, but I just couldn't, so I hope that you can help! Let me explain: I have a page with a Header/Menu which is a simple table, and an Iframe (frmMain) with some content. Here's what I need to do: onLoad & onResize the frmMain should get re-sized The main scrollbar on the page/window should scroll the frmMain content Re-size: The header should always stay 45px in height, but the frmMain should re-size to fill out the page vertically. Scroll: The scroll-bar on the main window/page should scroll the content of the frmMain of necessary. I have made an illustration to try explain my problem: Hello there.. I was searching on the forum for a little help to how I can change my scrollbar color inside my iframe, but I didnt rly find anything that helped, I only found solutions to: How to change scroll colors but that didnt have any effect inside my Iframe.. Ok try go to this site: http://www.sp34k.dk/Bluevis/index.htm - Now try look to the left, you can see a scrollbar there, but what I wish, is to make it smaller, change its colors, or just do anything to make it "fits" inside the design. I hope some of you guys could help me, I cross my fingers.. Kind regards Mike Bertelsen Denmark Please help. I have a set of web pages with a horiz nav bar across the top that has buttons that load various pages in the iframe target area on the lower 3/4 of the screen. We want the entire screen scrollable with one scrollbar as one solution, OR the entire iframe area scrollable with a single scroll bar as another possible solution, does not matter which. What we do not want is for the user to have two manipulate two scroll bars (the iframe one and the outside one) in order to view the bottom of the iframe area. Thanks in advance, Ron E. i have spent about 45min reading through alot of Iframe related threads but none of them have helped my problem. I have a website with iframes, on my index page i am trying to put an iframe into the content box so when you click the links up top it will load them without refreshing the whole page. So thats fine i put in my iframe code like this <iframe name="homeframe" width="780" height="250" border="0" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" padding="0" marginwidth="0" scrolling="auto"src="homeframe.html"> And on the html document im trying to put into it "homeframe.html" it open up but it scrolls horizontally not vertically and all the writing goes onto 1 line horizontally. The width of my content box is 780px so i made the table in the homeframe.html document 780 so it wouldnt have the bar but it does. im stumped. thanks in advance. Please help. Thanks in advance, Ron E. ---------------------- Can anyone help me out? I've set up a test site for a project where I have a scrollable table within an iFrame. Techincally, its an iFrame within an iFrame which gets you to a scrollable table I also added an auto-scroll with anchor-links. Everything finally works, but I really want to remove the horizontal-scroll bar that shows up, while keeping the vertical-scroll bar. (Upon testing, I found without the vertical-scroll bar, the anchor-links and auto-scroll don't work correctly.) here's the link to the test site: http://www.thegrandamerican.com/ here's the line of code I think is the correct place to make corrections: The hierarchy works as follows: index.htm > spotlight_news.htm > oprah june 09_news.htm The reason for all the iframes is to have elements on the higher pages that will stay in place, such as a music player and dynamic menu bar. other notes and associated files (for the auto scroll) a smooth-src-comments.js smooth.pack.js Thanks. - J I am trying to pass some HTML code though XML but the browser is ignoring the HTML tags as oppose to turning them into HTML tags. In the example below, I want to create a link to Google with CData, but the browser outputs "Google" as oppose to creating a link to Google. Code: Google Hi guys. I need some expert about an issue I'm having. Site: Zhentor Online The website content is loaded into an IFRAME (which you can see just below the advertisement box, below the part where it says "Zhentonian Time"). However, the website uses a dynamic IFRAME resizing script, which as you can guess, resizes the IFRAME to accomodate the contents, removing scrollbars. However, for this to work, the IFRAME needs to load twice. So you can imagine that can get a little annoying over time, having each page load twice... I load the contents into the IFRAME to prevent from loading the heavy graphics again and again. But I'm getting really annoyed with the double load issue, and would like an alternative, or a better script which only loads the IFRAME once. I'm looking for a scrollbar-free solution which is why I've neglected framesets. I also used another script a while back which loaded documents into a DIV but for some reason I was unable to submit forms through the DIV, which rendered it useless. JUST to make sure, the IFRAME I am concerned with is the 2nd bordered box from the top of the page. The first one holds advertisements, and the second one, which starts with the header "Zhentonian Time" is the IFRAME that loads all website content. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please free to put them forward. A superior IFRAME resize script would be awesome, or any other way which might be suitable. Thank you. I am trying to make my code more standards compliant and use the "strict" DTD. But when I try to validate using the W3C validator, there are a few things that I'm having trouble with. Target: I was using <a href target="blank" ....> to open some external links in a new window, but this isn't allowed in HTML 4 strict or XHTML 1 strict. What is supposed to be the replacement? The only thing I could find on a web search was a javascript, which I know little about. Is that the only alternative? (Seems a bit silly if it is, as this must be a commonly used feature.) Align: I used this to centre graphics, but this isn't allowed either. Are we supposed to set up different image classes in the CSS to allow centering, left, etc? br: Use of the
tag is allowed in HTML 4 strict, but there seem to be some paces where it isn't allowed. Does anyone have a reference to the rules for this? Thanks Heyas, I'm creating a project at the mo that needs a rather large number of tables. The whole project so far is CSS, but with the amount of data that needs to be displayed (with up to and beyond 150 on some pages) I think the div option is out as nesting them correctly would probably be a nightmare. On attempting to validate my html with a strict doctype, the only error I'm getting is that td width="###" isn't allowed. So is there any other alternative, or some other way to specify cell widths that will validate? Getting everything to validate properly was a bit heavy on the workload, and if possible I'd like to be able to stick with strict and not have to migrate to transitional. Also just to add that the tables are pretty simple. E.g. Table set one is 2 columns wide. Column 1 and column 2 stay the same width throughout an unlimited number of additional rows. E.g. Table set two is 5 columns, and once again, these width are constant throughout an unlimited number of rows. In short, is there any alternative to using td width that will validate as a strict doctype aside from creating and nesting 400 divs? Cheers, Mopy I think it was Pegasus who gave me this code for vertical alignment: Code:
But it doesn't work for what I'm tryin' to use it with.. I'm tryin' to vertically align some google adsense advertisements on an image. I got the ads to show up on the image correctly, thanks to the people here.. but I can't get'em to align vertically for some reason. Are there any alternatives for vertically aligning something?? I'm working on an application where the user will be able to build a page made up of several unrelated blocks of information. Since I'd like to generate some ad revenue from these pages, I'm concerned the disjointed nature of the information will tend to confuse ad networks (e.g. AdSense), leading to sub-optimal ads, fewer click-throughs, and less money. It would be very easy for me to create each block of information as a separate page ("sub-page"), containing its own ad code, and then pull them (and their ads) all together in the user-created pages using frames or iframes. Based on my (limited) understanding of how the ad networks work, it seems this would enable better-targeted ads based on each of these sub-pages. If I'm right, the only problem is the frames and their associated headaches. 1. Am I making too much of the ad relevance issue? 2. Is there a non-frame solution that will achieve the same results? 3. Are the benefits of frames worth the problems? Thanks. Involute I've made a site (http://sketch.uk.com) that hides and displays divs according to the browser size. However, ideally I'd like to prevent the hidden divs loading their content until they are visible. A good example is the index page of the above link. There is an iframe for the flash animation that changes to a static picture when you resize to a smaller window. If you were to open the site on the smaller window (such as a tablet or mobile for example) it would be better that the iframe were never loaded at all. Any suggestions? Ive been looking EVERYWHERE for a site with a code for a scroll box with a trasparent scroll bar, Ive seen the code where I can edit the size of the box as well as the color of the box itself and I know how to do THAT. how do I make it where the code displays the scroll code as well so I can fully customize it? it seems that its always hidden.. I have 2 IFrames on a page. I am going to end up with a long list of shows to catch-up on. Is there a way I can embed an IFrame with the list, and when you click on a show, you it will change the Playing Show http://tiny.cc/catchup <---The page I am referring to. hi, i've a very simple html page, where i have an iframe. The problem is that i want to add some text below the iframe. however, my text keeps showing up on the right hand side of the iframe. i've looked at the tutorials discussing the tags available for iframe, but surprisingly, none seem to relevant to this. Code:

This should be displayed below the iframe but actually gets displayed on the right

any help / guidance in this will be much appreciated. thanks in advance! Hi! I've been cracking my head trying to solve this: How can I insert a iframe [i.e. 300x200px] inside of another iframe [i.e. 700x500px] and pull different web content n each one? kind of concentric iframes or like a 'Donut iframe' Now here is my problem. I'm not familiar with other laguages then html and a little bit of javascript and I wanted to make a site for me and my brothers photography company. I currently using dreamweaver and have figured out the way I want to make this site. I tried using ordinary frames, but I want the website to be aligned in the middle and I could make that happen. That is why I went into iframes and a regular table on the index page. My problem now is that I have several iFrames and I want a link from one to open in another. http://www.trans4mind.com/personal_d...e/iframes3.htm here is a link for this to happen, and the simple solution is to name the frame and then target the link. but I have tried that and when the link is from one iframe to another it won't work. If the link is on the index page and target the iframe then it works. Do you have any idea why this happens? I know it's possible since the link above does it. |
