HTML - Tables And Content Alignment
Hello, im trying to make a webpage and figured invisible tables would be a good way to structurise the page, ive ran into a problem tho as in the cell content alignment is wrong.
heres what im trying to achieve: Code: ____________________________________________ | navigation |text starts from up here | | navigation | | | navigation | | | navigation | | |____________|_____________________________| but while the navigation bar is always the same height the text cell is sometimes taller sometimes shorter thus i get situations where the small amount of text starts from the middle of the cell instead of top as i want it to and when there is alot of text the navigation bar moves to the middle of the streched out cell heres the html im using right now Code: <table> <tr> <td> <a href=blah blah>link</a><br> <a href=blah blah>link</a><br> etc </td> <td> here is the text </td> </tr> </table> please help Similar TutorialsHi Normally, when you have more than one table in your code, the tables will be placed one under each other. Example: <table> ... </table> <table> ... </table> When you want the tables to be placed next to each other, you need to set the align attribute. Example: <table align="left"> ... </table> <table align="left"> ... </table> BUT: When you do it like in the 2nd example (tables next to each other), in Firefox, the tables will wrap to a new line if there is no more space. In Internet Explorer, the tables will not wrap. The result is a horizontal scrollbar or "hidden tables". Why this? How can I make the tables wrap also in Internet Explorer as it does in Firefox? Is it possible with a special CSS definition or with a special DIV/SPAN tag? Thanks for your help praiser Hello, Can anybody help me out? I have a nested table as such: =========================================== <table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="3" border="1"> <tr> <td>Joe <table> <tr> <td>A </td> </tr> </table> </td> </tr> </table> =========================================== How can I get "Joe" and "A" on the same line without changing the table structure? (Can't change structure cuz this is how my server side code spits it out. But I can add styles and attributes.) I've tried all manner of floating, margins, padding, aligning, hspacing, vspacing, and nothing seems to work. Thanks for any help. No 1. I can't seem to get the two columns of my tables to line up straight; and No 2. Can anyone help me out with getting the text and the YouTube video to line up as well? The code works fine in a sandbox, but when you look at the page it's all bodged. Ideally I'd like *just* the video in a table so that I can have the text free to run the other side of it (like it would with an image). *some of the irrelevant text deleted so I can be within the word limit* HTML Code: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Out/In</TITLE> <STYLE type=text/css><!-- body {scrollbar-3dlight-color:black; scrollbar-arrow-color:black; scrollbar-track-color:black; scrollbar-darkshadow-color:black; scrollbar-face-color:gray; scrollbar-highlight-color:gray; scrollbar-shadow-color:white} --></STYLE> <SCRIPT type=text/javascript> <!-- // copyright 1999 Idocs, Inc. http://www.idocs.com/tags/ // Distribute this script freely, but please keep this // notice with the code. var rollOverArr=new Array(); function setrollover(OverImgSrc,pageImageName) { if (! document.images)return; if (pageImageName == null) pageImageName = document.images[document.images.length-1].name; rollOverArr[pageImageName]=new Object; rollOverArr[pageImageName].overImg = new Image; rollOverArr[pageImageName].overImg.src=OverImgSrc; } function rollover(pageImageName) { if (! document.images)return; if (! rollOverArr[pageImageName])return; if (! rollOverArr[pageImageName].outImg) { rollOverArr[pageImageName].outImg = new Image; rollOverArr[pageImageName].outImg.src = document.images[pageImageName].src; } document.images[pageImageName].src=rollOverArr[pageImageName].overImg.src; } function rollout(pageImageName) { if (! document.images)return; if (! rollOverArr[pageImageName])return; document.images[pageImageName].src=rollOverArr[pageImageName].outImg.src; } //--> </SCRIPT> <META content="MSHTML 6.00.6000.16587" name=GENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY bgProperties=fixed background=http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b378/th13teenskulls/tex3a.jpg> <CENTER><BR><BR> <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=20 width=800 bgColor=#000000 border=2> <TBODY> <TR> <TD vAlign=top width=800 height=1300> <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="100%" bgColor=#000000> <TBODY> <TR><ALIGN="CENTER" bgcolor="#E6E6E6" valign="middle"><FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color=#666666 size=2><BR> CENTER></TR><LEFT><BR> <CENTER><TABLE cellPadding=1 width=70 border-width:1px;> <TBODY> <TR> <TD><FONT face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" color=#666666 size=2><PRE style="FONT-FAMILY: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif" size="2"><BR>JAMES: Mary…?! I just started making a site for myself today, the specific one is http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/rosebowl.html Anyway, I've got three problems, and appreciate any help anyone can offer on any of them: 1. I'm new to frames, and am told to stay clear of it. But I don't know php, so this is the only way I know to make a header, middle and footer on all 20 pages that I'm going to have where I only need to edit one to change all. So I have 3 frames in the frameset, header, mainrosebowl, and footer. I understand that cols="220,*,100" will make the header 220 pixels, the footer 100 px, and the middle part the rest of the window. But I'm trying to figure out a way to have it go deeper than the window. As you can tell, I've got a scroll bar on that middle frame. I want that frame to extend to more than 100% and push the footer below the visible window. So I'm really looking for a big scroll bar for the entire window to scroll down, not a mini scroll bar just for the middle frame. Is this possible? Having the cols add up to only the size of the window isn't what I'm looking for. 2. In the header frame, I've got that drop down menu (says "Bowl Events"). When I put the form in for the drop down menu, it kind of expanded the height of the table. It had less space before in that row of the table with the blue background. When I put the form in there, it kinda messed up the spacing. I essentially want to delete that space below bowl events to make the height of the row of that table like half the size. Any ideas? 3. For that same drop down menu, I'm trying to target each link in that menu to open up a new window (like target="_top"). But putting it after <option value="URL" target=..."> does nothing. Am I supposed to put it in the javascript? Here's what I have now: <script type="text/javascript"> function goToPage(dd) { var ind = dd.selectedIndex; if (ind == 0) { return; } var url = dd.options[ind].value document.location=url; } </script> <form> <select name="eventlist" onChange="goToPage(this); return false;" size="1" style="border: 0; BACKGROUND: navy; COLOR: white; FONT-FAMILY: arial; FONT-SIZE: 15px; font-weight: bold;"> <option value="">Bowl Events</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/bcschampionship.html" onclick="header.location.href='_top'">BCS Championship</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/rosebowl.html">2009 Rose Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/orangebowl.html">2009 Orange Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/fiestabowl.html">2009 Fiesta Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/sugarbowl.html">2009 Sugar Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/chickfilabowl.html">2009 Chick-Fil-A Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/capitalonebowl.html">2009 Capital One Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/cottonbowl.html">2009 Cotton Bowl</option> <option value="http://www.bcsticketsnow.com/holidaybowl.html">2009 Holiday Bowl</option> </select></form> Does anyone know how to fix this? as you can see, there's random content at the bottom left there. it's not supposed to be and is supposed to be located in the column that's very wide there, but for some reason is throwing it down below the left column. how can i fix this? http://erocsteady.freehostia.com/tes...ents/index.php ^you can see what im talking about here I need help/ I applied an opacity on my table background. But the problem is, i have content such as images and text areas in my table which are getting affected by the opacity i placed on my table. I applied a 14% opacity to my table and now its making my images and textbox inside my table invisible. anyway to fix this problem. here is an example of my code HTML <table class="home"> <tr> <th>Welcome</th> </tr> <tr> <td width="100" height="200"> <p><img src="Web Photos/welcomebanner.gif" class="feature" width="1025" height="200" /></p> </tr> CSS table.home td { font-size: small; border: 1px solid FFFFFF; background-color: #FFFFFF; filter: alpha(opacity=14); } Hello I'm trying to work out a way of allowing my main content to increase without it stretching my nav and ruining the formatting. I have a table, 2 columns, 10 rows, cell spacing 4 I've set the main content (right) to span all 10 rows. I want to be able to increase the main content without it stretching my rows. Row height set to 40px. My answer so far has been to add an 11th row, turn it white and set the height so that the combined height of the cells in the left had column matches the height of the right hand one. This is fine, but a bit of nuisance if you want numerous pages where the main content takes up a different amount of space. Is there anyway to set the 11th cell on the left hand column to stretch along with my main content, without it messing up the height of the 10 calls above? You'd think you'd be able to set it to height = 100% or something, but apparently not. Many thanks, monki Hi, Im trying to make my footer content align correctly to the main content when a window resizes. The apdivs don't seem to want to move at all even with a relative position etc. I have tried everything but just cant get it to work can someone help please? http://pjm.co.uk.uksite4.yourwebserv...splay&PageID=5 Also some one commented before on the amount of css and JS pages. These will al be stripped out as its an Open sources system im using! Thansk alot Joe Hey everyone, I'm new to these boards. Somewhat a newbie at web design, but I know basics. I'm looking to put 2 tables adjacent to each other inside another table. My problem is I can't get the tables to line up the way I want them to. I'll post a picture of how I want it to look, how it looks now and my code. How I want it to look: How it looks now: I want the tables to line up at the top and re-size according to each other so they're always aligned at the top. Code: coming in next 2 posts Hey guys, I used to know a lot about html, but then just completely stopped doing anything with websites for too long. I was just wondering how I can replace a word or number with a specified word or number. What I want to achieve: I've got a forum with a couple thousand members and it's picking up in activity and I want to make some names stand out for being helpful. I want to replace their names with an image. But to do so, it'd have to be a code made and added into the footer template. Because obviously I can't edit a username for html image code. So I just need the code to find all instances of a certain username and replace it with what I specified. ------------- Man I really wish I remembered how to do this haha. Thanks guys. I don't understand! On my end when I upload it to the server and open an html file in the browser, everything looks fine. But when other people look at the site, it looks totally different. Text boxes are disgusting, I use CSS positioning and it puts everything totally off of the layout. Hi Guys Here is some css I use for my footer, I want it to be centered but only span 98% of the distance, however when I change the width to 98% it only cuts off the 2% from the right hand side and justifies the footer to the left. Any Help? I am working with a programme that uses three templates to structure the web site, feeds articles, author page and site map on a daily basis to my web site. I attempted to insert Adsense ad units to templates and unfortunately everything is out of line now. this can be viewed at http://daviddutch.com/currency/articles/index.html Question is how do I bring everything else back in line please as when I look at coding there is no clear place to put the adsense HTML code to get things lined up correctly. Hope someone can offer wisdom and guidance. cheers Good morning, I cannot figure out how to get the images one on top of the other (in a straight line) here http://divamaggie.com/?p=60 . I tried Code: <br>, <p> and simply line spaces, but nothing seems to be working. I'm really hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong. This is the first site I've done. I want to add some screenshots to the center of the page but can't figure out how to keep the links in place at the left. When I add the pics the links move down to make room for the pics. How do I get the links to stay in place at the left of the screenshots? Thank you for any help. Krytin http://ghostfleet.bravehost.com/ghostfleet.htm It's not that huge of a deal because its only an under construction page... but I'd like to know how to get this page looking the same in both IE and Firefox. The only real issues with IE right now is that the image isn't centered and the yellow tape bg is 1px off from where it should be... thanks for any help! http://www.pzfantasyfootball.com Code: <html> <head> <title>PZ Fantasy Football » Under Construction</title> <style type="text/css"> * {margin: 0; padding:0;} p {margin-top: 15px;} h2 {font-size: 25px; border-bottom: 1px solid #fff; margin-bottom: 10px;} body { background-image: url(images/Metal_Texture-PhotoshopTower.jpg); background-color: #000; color: #fff; font-family: calibri, arial, verdana; } a, a:visited, a:active {color: #09f;} a:hover {color: #06c;} #wrap { width: 800px; margin: 0 auto; } .yellowtape { position: absolute; bottom: 0; width: 100%; height: 524px; background-image: url(images/yellowtapebg.gif); background-repeat: repeat-x; } .construction { position: absolute; bottom:0; background-image: url(images/pzfantasyfootballunderconstruction.jpg); width: 800px; height: 600px; } .text { position: relative; left: 300px; top: 225px; width: 500px; font-size: 18px; text-align: left; } </style> </head> <body> <div class="yellowtape"></div> <div id="wrap"> <div class="construction"> <div class="text"><h2>11/1/07 » Site Under Construction Again</h2>Well once again we enter construction mode. I just wasn't feeling the league site, no one really used it much, it didn't have much content that Yahoo! couldn't already offer, and it just really ended up being a waste of time. So now I'm going to give it a shot with a fantasy help site. I know I've done this before, but my future may hold something in the sports industry, so now I look to try and establish a well read site in order to help achieve my goals. I'm not 100% sure if the new site will be done before the end of this season, however it should be done in time for the 2008 NFL Draft. Hope to see you all soon! <p />Oh, and feel free to contact me via the forums <a href="http://www.pzfantasyfootball.com/forums">here</a>. </div> </div></body> </html> |
