HTML - Search Engine Robots
hi all,
I read somewhere that in order to help the search engine robots/spiders find my web pages I need to put in some code. I have looked around, but cannot see it anywhere (typical). anyone help me here please and tell me what lines of html I need to add to my page/s? also, is it really worthwhile using or paying someone for seo? I dont like to part with money at the best of times, but I cannot actually believe that this is a worthwhile investment- aren't all search engines different, in thast they use different 'collection' methods? I was thinking of using ppc (Google perhaps?) do this sound a better way to get noticed on the web (providing that I choose my keywords properly, of course)? many thanks Ed Similar TutorialsFor example, this scenario: 1. My page contains the text "giraffes in corduroys" 2. somebody googles that text - either as a phrase or just the words 3. google points them to my page 4. the user clicks to go to my page... Is there any way to determine that it was the text "giraffes in corduroys" which brought them to my page? Would the crux be getting the previous URL in the browser history? I like to use drop down menus and other forms of navigation. I have heard that BOTs from search engines can't navigate through them. My question is if I were to keep these drop down menus but want to create a way for serch engines to navigate through my page is there a way to do it. I am reasonable sure an addition of text based links will solve this problem, but being that I want to keep my drop down menu it will be overkill for visitors to my website. Is there a way where I can make text links available for search bots but invisible for visitors? Is it possible to have links show up under your URL when your site is searched in a url? I've attached an example of what I'd like. Thanks! how do i make my own search engine? i dont even know if you use html, but i need help... also on the cgi script part, thats all i know that you need is the cgi script... but i still think it could be in here..... Hello all, I am looking to place a search engine within the my home page so as that visitors can search the sites content. the problem is that my website is a sub domain (from a free DNS provider)and having trawled the web I can only find HTML source code to search top level domains (for eg Googles Custom Search Engine....). I have tried Googles CSE on another site (*.co.uk) that I run and it works perfectly, but not with a subdomain. I would be grateful if someone can tell me if this is possible and if possible where I can find the source code to insert into my home page so as that it can be searched thro' my site, regards munkyn Hey all, New to the forum here, looks like a great place! Anyhow, need some help / direction. I've been given the task to create an intranet search engine at work, but the level of coding is a bit over my head, so any help would be much appreciated. Long story short - I need to make a search with drop downs and I can't figure out how to make all three drop downs dictate what is searched for. Take a look at the two drop down set up KBB has for an idea of what I mean: http://www.kbb.com/kbb/NewCars/defau...=41&ModelId=23. I'm pretty sure this can all be done in HTML, but if I'm wrong tell me. Can anyone help on this or atleast point me in the right direction? Thanks a bunch! Steph could someone tell me different techniques for proper SEO besides meta words and whatnot. Thanks, Tham. Hello all, In firefox i' using this code: Code: <a href="javascript:window.external.AddSearchProvider('http://localhost/tr.xml')"><strong><font color="#2E3436" size="3px">Search</font></strong></a> This add search provider to browser. tr.xml Code: <OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/"> <ShortName>search</ShortName> <Description>search</Description> <InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding> <Image width="16" height="16" type="image/x-icon">http://localhost/favicon.png</Image> <Url type="text/html" template="http://localhost?search={searchTerms}"></Url> </OpenSearchDescription> But it only work for firefox, i wanna do that for Opera, Chrome and IE. Maybe someone would provide "good/working" script for that ? Hey guys, First of all im new to this forum so please let me know if i posted this in the wrong section. Im trying to find out what kind of coding a need for a auto search engine. I want to make something like this http://roboswag.com/search/ It would be used to auto search for swagbucks.com(if you dont know this site, you earn points by searching, and you can get giftcards and stuff) so please let me know if you have any ideas on how to do this Hey, I need help replicating the model search engine from weather.com I need a search box where you start entering text and then up pops the completed searches to choose from. I have a list of about 4,000 one or two word names that I need to link to the appropriate page. If someone could help me code this in any way I would greatly appreciate help & thank you in advance. Daniel i'm only new to website building, so i thought i'd start with a free template and have a play around and see how things work. i've got most of it happening, but i can't find any kind of script for an in-site search engine. there's the 'search' tab, but when you enter a word nothing happens. i've googled search engines and they all want you to pay by the month for it. is there anywhere i can get one for free? i only want a really basic one for about 6 web pages. Any hints on how to implement a search engine for my site? It could be a ready engine or something. The more easier it is to program the better. I can barely code HTML now. Hi, I have two test versions of my site: 1: http://www.monkeygambling.com/new%20...indexnew.shtml 2: http://www.monkeygambling.com/new%20...0working.shtml However the search engine spider simulation doesn't see any text on (2) http://www.webconfs.com/search-engin...-simulator.php Can anyone see why? thanks First off, this forum seems great! I've been stressing over this for a while now and hope someone can point me in the right direction... I'm not looking for a freebie, just some guiding light. I'm making a homepage for myself, and to avoid visiting a thousand search engine sites individually I'd like to make my own drop down menu to search from. I have it set up with a text box, drop down menu and a submit button... I'd like to be able to enter my text, select the search engine I'd like to use and then click submit and have a new window open with the search engine site and the search results (pretty much cut out the search engine main pages)... Has anyone done this? Any info will be greatly appreciated... Thanks! Jim. Another idea that I've had is to be able to select multiple search engine and have multiple windows open up... Save some time... Anyhow, Thanks so much... Hello, Making a site and i would like to know how to make a search engine on my site... the thing is i don't know where to start.. thanks ____________ conservatories Fruit Machines Ive been trying to set up a search input type box where the only portion entered into the search is the actual string. The HTML code works great when using a Google search such as this simple code: ------ <form method="get" action="http://www.google.com/search"> <input type="text" name="q" size="31" maxlength="255" value="" /> <input type="submit" value="Google Search" /> </form> ------ What im trying to do is use a search page such as the one on the apple discussion website. Issue comes up that i need it to specifically search criteria,. Exactly, ii would need it to use the search string criteria form the first code, then chose specific criteria on the actual site page. In the apple page example, i would need it to search say a specific forum from the drop down menu. I tried running a blank search and using that URL as my search site but it doesn't seem to work. It never search that specific forum. ANY HELP ? Hi guys, Just wondering, I'm working on a new site and have been asked to put in a search bar, so people can search through the site. I've never done this before so I'm baffled! I suggested the google search bar but the owner would prefer just a standard blank one. How would I go about doing this? Thanks PS Sorry if this is in the wrong category but I'm not quite sure where it should go! Hello all, I currently host my own website at home (work related) which is a sub domain of a free dynamic DNS provider- dyndns.com I am looking to place a search engine within the home page so as that visitors can search the sites content (technical). Having trawled the web I can only find HTML source code for top level (from providers google, yahoo....) domains for eg. if my domain was mywebsite.com but in my case I require it so search htttp://"my website hostname".dyndns.org. I would be grateful if someone can tell me if this is possible and if possible where I can find the source code to insert into my home page so as that it can be searched thro' my site, regards munky This maybe complicated or really easy, im a beginner lol... But basically my website has tons of images and I want to tag them with specific terms somehow. There should be a top row with 5 drop down columns. And each column describes a different attribute of the image. Imagine the page populated with images and when you drop down a certain attribute only images with that attribute showup and if you drop down another column attribute, the page becomes filled with those images that fullfill the first and the second attribute, and so on and so forth. Kind of like google images, especially the new one where the image just expands when clicked with information. In the most basic sense, I want to create an image search engine for my website that searches based on tags on drop down boxes. Thanks !!!! |
