HTML - Organizing Files And Folders
I am a beginner at wp design and a newbie at actually coding html but I can already see the need to develop a clear set of guidelines for using folders to organize my work. For example, I am inclined to want to make 3 folders for each website, one called webpages, one called images and one called CSS. Is this useful/ a good idea? Or should I create a folder for each webSITE and then a folder within for each webPAGE? I am guessing that mirroring this structure on my webspace would be helpful - would facilitate uploading and downloading. Please comment also on relative references - at least I think this topic is related.
I would appreciate any insight from some of you veterans out there to keep me from pulling out what little hair I have left Similar TutorialsI'm writing a program that (tries to) detect pairs of html files and their associated folders. For example if you save a website to disk, then you get something like "foo.htm" and a folder named "foo_files". The problem is, this naming schema only applies to websites saved with english versions of common browsers. With a german version, for example, the folder looks more like "foo-Dateien". Is there any safe way find out which folder an html file is associated with? Thanks in advance for any help! Will organizing code into tabbed lines and line breaks create an inconsistency in the way web pages look in different browsers? Example: Code: <html> <body> <head> </head> <div> </div> </body> </html> Hey, So I have a form which right now...gets the job done, but my boss doesnt like the way it looks >.> he wants it to be less columnar and more uh...ya know like multiple text boxes on one line, just make it look nicer and less like a businessy form, although thats what it is Ive tried doing things like removing <tr> tags, but then the form just looks like crap, with like half my screen spacing ... lol Let me know if it is even possible to have this much control over a form (without a immense knowledge of website development..) Thanks, Paul Hi, I've seen that in many websites the url in the web browser are folders instead of pages: www.site.com/folder1/ www.site.com/folder2/ www.site.com/folder1/folder3/ I guess they use a server configuration. Could you give me more information about it ? Or indicate a tutorial ? thanks on my server i have a _vti_pvt folder - and on filezilla it has an owner/group thing next to each folder/file - and on this it says owner - my username, group - 99 , and the cutenews folder which is hacked on my site is also called 99. i'm suspicious this is what i see inside and also, how do i delete a hacked folder if i cant even upload to the folder or do ANYTHING :s Hello I am not sure if this is the correct area for this question but i'll give it a shot I'm just wondering if there is a way to make a custom icon for a zipped folder? this is a file that would be e-mailed Thank You Hiya, The default page for my website (e.g., www.mywebsite.com) is www.mywebsite.com/index.htm. However, I want to be able to tell certain people to go to "www.mywebsite.com/info" to get served a special page. Is all I have to do: 1. Create a folder called 'info', 2. Insert my content into a file called index.htm and place in that folder. I've tried the above with FF and IE and it seems to work fine - am just checking it's the best way of doing it. Thanks, James Guys n Gals. Is it possible using HTML to search local folders for files. The scenario: At work we have a networked folder, that is constantly being updated with either txt files or xml files and such. This changes on a daily basis. Is it possible to search using html. I don't wish to build a database, as this would require constant attention. I would like to send out a small HTML page, with our company logo, that references the newtrk location. If so, would anyone know or have the code to do this. Java would also be suitable. Hi all, not sure if this is posted in the correct place... please move if not...! Problem is, of course, whilst the IE plugins work, they don't have full functionality. I read somewhere that you could change the default settings in Windows, but part of what I'm trying to set up is on a business computer and of course, things like file associations and registry are tied down pretty tight so they can't be accessed, so I need to do it from within a page of links. Many thanks (in hope) Could anyone please tell me the code to call an external html file? I need to refresh my memories! Open Mozilla Firefox and go to this site: http://www.mm-theory.com Scroll down a bit until you see a table titled "Download PDFs" on the left-hand side. Click any one of them. Does anything happen, or do you get what I get: a blank window? Explorer doesn't seem to have this problem. I click on any of the links, I get the option to either open the PDF file in the browser or download it. If I choose to open in the browser, it does just that. Why would it not do the same in Firefox? The code for the links are as follows: Code: ... <tr><td class="PDFs"><a class="PDFs" href="../PDFs/Website Introduction.pdf">Website Introduction</a></td></tr> <tr><td class="PDFs"><a class="PDFs" href="../PDFs/Preliminary Concepts.pdf">Preliminary Concepts</a></td></tr> ... Thanks for any forthcoming help. I have some text embedded within a '.gif' file and dont know how to change the text. I downloaded Adove Photoshop Elements 6.0 but when i use the horizontal type tool and type over the text, it makes the original text fuzzy and does not enter the new text. What am i doing wrong ? Thanks hey... i didnt know what forum to post this in, so admins, do what you want with this thread... I've recently taken over the web designing for a company... the site is already made, and the previous designer has dropped out, and the company needs me to make updates, add articles, etc. There are .htaccess files in almost every directory and subdirectory throughout the site. When I go to add an image, and make a link to it on a page, the image is not found, even though the source is correct. ex - initially, the page links to an image at "images/image1.jpg" . I make an image2.jpg, place it in the right folder, and try to link to it - "images/image2.jpg" but the image cannot be displayed on the site (says it cannot be found - same as a 404). I am assuming this has to do with the htaccess permissions and all that stuff (also in each directory is a "_notes" subdirectory and another directory like that) but I'm not sure. I wikipedia'd htaccess files, and read that they were made for apache servers... the server hosting the site I am working on uses IIS... another confusing problem. Is there anyway to edit these .htaccess files so that I can add more images to the site? Also, why cant I see images these 'blocked' images? Is there any way to disable this blocking? guys i have a page with a link. when i click the link i want to print a file. assuming the file already exits.. say a doc file or something thanks guys your help would be mightily appreciated Hi all. I am redoing my homepages but have a problem that is driving me sane! A set of files work perfectly when checked by Firefox on my computer. When that same set of files are uploaded to the Homepage a few (not all) embedded jpgs do not appear, though their titles do. The files are not corrupted, I have checked. The jpg's are right there where they belong. To see the effect the Url is. http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~Sspinett/Index.html Internet Explorer 7 has the same result Cheers. Pete.
