HTML - Spacing Navigation Buttons.
I have some buttons I made for a navigation that goes across the top (horizontaly) and I have quite a few. So they don't all fit in one row. What I want to do is make a second row of buttons benethe the first row.
like for example, button button button button button button button button ect. I knew using breaks wouldn't work, so I don't know why I tried. I used a generator so I know nothing really about divs or tables or anything like that, but if someone could show me where to add like a break for this type of html that would be great!! HTML Code: <td width="3"></td> <td><div class="wg-button"> <a title="Quotes" style ="POSITION: relative" href="../quotes/index.html" ><img alt="" src="../_frame/button.png"><span style="LEFT: 18px; WIDTH: 77px; CURSOR: hand; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 18px" >Quotes</span></a></div></td> <td width="3"></td> <td><div class="wg-button"> <a title="Glitters" style="POSITION: relative" href="../glitters/index.html" ><img alt="" src="../_frame/button.png"><span style="LEFT: 16px; WIDTH: 77px; CURSOR: hand; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 11px" >Glitters</span></a></div></td> <td width="3"></td> <td><div class="wg-button"> <a title="Icons" style="POSITION: relative" href="../icons/index.html" ><img alt="" src="../_frame/button.png"><span style="LEFT: 18px; WIDTH: 77px; CURSOR: hand; POSITION: absolute; TOP: 18px" >Icons</span></a></div></td> Similar TutorialsHello, I painted web design with Photoshop and used slice tool to slice it. Than exported to html file. No css file. And I got a problem. When in page are a lot of text wich goes down, my navigation buttons gets far away from each other. I attached screenshots. Looking to the website with Opera browser, everything is alright, but browsing via IE it looks bad. Editing with dreamweaver everything looks good like with opera, but editing with FrontPage, it looks bad like via IE. Maybe someone can help me? Thank you. Sorry for my bad english. LINK TO THE WEBSITE Hi I'm new to web design but have created a 1st shot. Unfortunately the 9 navigation buttons (spread horizontally) spill over onto a 2nd row. My guess is tat this is because the wording for some of the buttons is a bit wordy. I don't want to lose the words at this time. Any ideas of how I can arrive at a neat solution. Ideally I would prefer that all the buttons fitted into a single row. Is there any way of achieving this? (even if the text within certain cells is split over 2 rows within the cell) Thanks for any help you can give Chris you can see the sort of results I'm getting at www.universal-campus.net Below is the tswtabs.css style sheet referred to in the code for each web page and which contains the settings for the navigation buttons /* tswtabs.css 1.0.2 Please use the CSS Menu Button Wizard at http://www.thesitewizard.com/wizards...-buttons.shtml to generate your own customized menu buttons. */ #tswcsstabs ul { margin: 10 ; padding: 0 ; list-style: none ; display: inline ; } #tswcsstabs ul li { margin: 0 ; padding: 0 ; display: inline ; text-align: center ; list-style: none ; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif ; } #tswcsstabs li a { color: #000 ; background-color: #36b4d6 ; border: 1px outset #00f ; padding: 8px ; text-decoration: none ; display: inline ; } #tswcsstabs li a:hover { color: #ff0 ; background-color: #0000c0 ; } Below is the code I'm using on each page to set out the navigation buttons <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"> <html> <head> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://www.universal-campus.net/tswtabs.css"> <meta content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1" http-equiv="content-type"> <title>about</title> </head> <body> <ul> </ul> <table style="text-align: left; width: 1360px; height: 282px;" border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="2"> <tbody> <tr> <td><a href="worldheader.jpg"><img style="border: 0px solid ; width: 1348px; height: 265px; float: left;" alt="" src="worldheader.jpg"></a></td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <table style="text-align: left; font-family: Arial; font-weight: bold; width: 100%;" border="1" cellpadding="2" cellspacing="5"> <tbody> <tr> <td> <div id="tswcsstabs"> <ul> <li><a href="index.html">Home</a></li> <li><a href="about.html">About Global Campus</a></li> <li><a href="portfolio.html">Our own Business Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="business.html">Getting more from your Business</a></li> <li><a href="investment.html">Maximising your Investments</a></li> <li><a href="coach.html">Your Coach & Mentor</a></li> <li><a href="exit.html">Making the most from your exit</a></li> <li><a href="feedback.html">Contacting Us</a></li> <li><a href="associate.html">Working as one of our Associates</a></li> </ul> </div> </td> </tr> </tbody> Here's a link to the page I'm currently working on. http://www.vancouver4condos.com/test/ The big map picture is set up as an image map, with all the areas already specified. Each area gets highlighted when viewer hovers the cursor over it. Also, right above the map is a navigation menu, with all the buttons corresponding to each of the areas on the image map below. I was wondering if there is a way to connect each of the navigation buttons with their corresponding map image areas in such a way that when the user hovers the cursor over a button, its map area will automatically get highlighted. Ideally, the opposite would also be true - when hovering the cursor over one of the map areas, its corresponding navigation button would also highlight. Hey guys, EDIT: I figured it out. There was a phantom image that I had between the two that no longer belongs. Nevermind! Thanks, ~C-Style~ Ok so I'm learning along the way by playing around with what my web designer started. I'm having trouble working out what part of the html does the spacing between my text and the input box. Here's what I'm stuck at: You can see how where it says 'click for more fonts' the box isn't in line with the others. Any help would be much appreciated.... I'm starting to go cross-eyed lol. Hey folks... I've searched and searched for an answer for this, but with no luck. Probably because I don't know how to exactly describe my problem. Anyway, the issue is my page is displaying differently in IE and Firefox (surprise!). The spacing between the top image and the body divs are different. I'm not sure if it's an HTML issue or a CSS one. The page in question is: http://www.project-43.com/ The CSS file is he http://project-43.com/images/style.css It displays the way I want it too in Firefox. If you look at it in IE, you'll see the top image looks short, but that is because the spacing between the left menu area and the body on the right is too big. I appreciate any pointers that you might be able to offer. Thanks! Hello Everyone: I am a novice HTML user - I use it to create a Help file (for an MS/Access database), using HTML Help Workshop. My question concerns line spacing, using the following code: <b><u>Server:</u></b> <ul> <li>First List item...</li> </ul> Using this code, there will be a blank line between "Server" and "First List item...". Is it possible to eliminate this line and have the list start in the next line after "Server"? Thanks. . . Tony N. Alright i'm having a little trouble. When I add stuff to the side boxes, they are farther down then i want them to be, here is a pic: I'm wanting to move it up some, but I don't know how, I have been trying for a long time though. Here is the HTML Code: Code: <div class="box2 margin1"> <div class="tail-right"> <div class="corner-right-bottom"> <div class="corner-left-bottom"> <div class="corner-right-top"> <div class="corner-left-top"> <div class="indent"> <h3><span><span>Partners</span></span></h3> <div class="indent2"> <center><a href="http://www.elitepvpers.de"><img src="http://img230.imageshack.us/img230/2364/31421454.png" border="0"></a></center> <center><a href="http://www.4botters.com"><img src="http://img814.imageshack.us/img814/2599/88029646.png" border="0"></a></center> <div id="vent"><div style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 12px; text-align: center;"><a href="ventrilo://94.75.238.76:4696/servername=EQGVent" style="text-decoration: none;"></a></div></div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> Here is the CSS: Code: .box2 {background:#bec2c5 url(images/box2-bottom-tail.gif) bottom repeat-x;} .box2 .tail-right {background:url(images/box2-right-tail.gif) right repeat-y;} .box2 .corner-right-bottom {background:url(images/box2-corner-right-bottom.gif) right bottom no-repeat;} .box2 .corner-left-bottom {background:url(images/box2-corner-left-bottom.gif) left bottom no-repeat;} .box2 .corner-right-top {background:url(images/box2-corner-right-top.gif) right top no-repeat;} .box2 .corner-left-top {background:url(images/box2-corner-left-top.gif) left top no-repeat; width:100%;} .box2 .indent {padding:4px 6px 6px 4px;} .box2 .indent2 {padding:15px 12px 0px 6px;} Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. I've set up a <ul> with some breaks between each <li>. The spacing differs between FF and IE. It seems that the first <br> is ignored by IE, but not FF. Anyone know why, or a workaround? Thanks. http://www.mattburnsey.com/test.htm I'm having trouble getting the tv and the mirror to stay connected. I should have room to widen the tv iframe a little more and I've tried cellspacing and cellpadding. What am I not trying that I should be? Thanks. how to solve the problem? Here's a screenshot of what it's doing: I want to eliminate the spacing all together so my Flash element can sit exactly within the div. If there's a better way of positioning the Flash please tell me! I am having 2 issues with html coding, First off here ****HIT MUTE OR TURN VOLUME DOWN BEFORE CLICKING**** MY tables are too close together and i can not figure out how to space them out. Secondly on the first table (the hockey playoff bracket) I want to center the text but when i try to use the only align=center(or something like that i have it used in the table below) it clears out the next cell, removing the bracket. Can you help me fix these 2 issues please. Thank You tech-chef So, I am working on a website for the final project for one of my classes, and while it looks fine in Firefox and Safari, there is some funky spacing in my divs/table set up with my inline frame in IE: (I have IE 7, but I would like this to work in all versions as I'm not sure what browser my professor has) http://grandmas.host-ed.net/ in IE, you will see there is a space below the top banner and another one between the footer and the border... how can I get rid of these? Here is my code (image map removed b/c it's long and unneeded for my question) Code: <html> <head> <title>Grandma Mae's Country Naturals</title> </head> <body background="bg.jpg" bgproperties="fixed"> <center> <table Cellpadding="0" Cellspacing="0" border="0"> <tr><td> <div style="border: solid 0 #a34c30; border-left-width:3px; border-right-width:3px; border-top-width:3px; padding-left:0ex padding-right:0ex padding-top:0ex padding-bottom:0ex"> <img src="gcn_nav2.jpg" usemap="#mymap" border="0"> </div></td></tr> <tr><td> <div style="border: solid 0 #a34c30; border-left-width:3px; border-right-width:3px; padding-left:0ex padding-right:0ex padding-top:0ex padding-bottom:0ex"> <IFRAME name="inlineframe" src="home.html" width=854 height=350 frameborder="0"></IFRAME> </div></td></tr> <tr><td> <div style="border: solid 0 #a34c30; border-left-width:3px; border-right-width:3px; border-bottom-width:3px; padding-left:0ex padding-right:0ex padding-bottom:0ex padding-top:0ex"> <img src="footer2.jpg"> </div> </td></tr></table> <font color="FFCC99" size="1" face="Georgia, Times New Roman, Times, serif"><b>This site is not affiliated with Grandma Mae's County Naturals</b></font> </center> </map> </body> </html> It's kind of improvised and I am no html expert so perhaps there is a better way to get the look I was going for? Also, I know there is some extra/unneeded code there, but it's all stuff I added when trying to fix the spacing (and it didn't work) and was too lazy to take away. haha Thanks a ton, Nathalie I'm new to HTML/XHTML, so thanks for helping me understand the spacing rules that are applying he HTML: Quote: <div id="nav"> <ul> <li><a href="index.html">Main</a></li> <li><a href="resume.html">Resume</a></li> <li><a href="portfolio.html">Portfolio</a></li> <li><a href="contact.html">Contact and Networking</a></li> </ul> </div> CSS: Quote: #nav { height: 37px; text-align: center; background-color: #858585; } #nav ul { margin: 0; } #nav li { display: inline; } #nav a { padding: 9px 12px 9px 12px; line-height: 38px; border-left: 1px solid black; } Between every link in my horizontal navigation menu, there is a space (which I don't want). In order to get rid of this space, I have to change my HTML code to... Quote: <div id="nav"> <ul> <li><a href="index.html">Main</a></li><li><a href="resume.html">Resume</a></li><li><a href="portfolio.html">Portfolio</a></li><li><a href="contact.html">Contact and Networking</a></li> </ul> </div> ...which in turn sacrifices readability. This all seems very counter-intuitive to me, since I was under the impression that I could format my code readably without having to worry about its presentation. I can only guess that my line breaks (textual line breaks, not actual <br /> tags) are being interpreted as white space within my <ul>. If this is the case, my only other option would be to display my <li>s as block elements with zero margins, float them, and then use margins to push them to the middle (which is all WAY uglier than being able to center them with text-align). This is how I understand what's going on. If I am correct, does this mean I'm forced to sacrifice readability for functionality? Hello, I have a table text spacing problem. I'm trying to have two text elements (p's, spans's, whatever) stacked vertically or as close as possible underneath one of other. I cannot for the life of me remove the gap in between. I've tried margins, padding, cellpadding/cellspacing, border-collapse, and still, nothing works. I've attached an example using primitive HTML. Anyone have any ideas? The code: Code: <table width="650" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0"> <tr> <td>TEXT</td> </tr> <tr> <td>TEXT2</td> </tr> </table> Thanks! Edit: Line-height did the trick. Hi all, I'm having a problem with trying to get a table to have a tidy border. I want the border around one td cell to join the image in the cell above it, but because there is a border around the cell the border in the cell below isn't joining with the one above, there is a white gap between the two. This is the relevant code in the html file: <table class="core"> <tbody> <!-- menu --> <tr> <td width="200px"> <table class="menu"> <tbody> <tr> <td><img src="images\menuheading.jpg" alt="Mojo Menu" border="0"></td> </tr> <tr> <td class="menumain"> Link1<br> Link2<br> Link3<br> </td> </tr> </tbody> </table> </td> <!-- main body --> <td valign="top">Test Main</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> This is the code in the css file body { vertical-align: top; font-weight: normal; font-size: 12px; color: #000000; font-style: normal; font-family: Verdana; text-align: left; margin: 0; } table.headerfooter { background-color: #000066; vertical-align: top; text-align: left; border: #000066 0px solid; width: 100%; color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 10px; text-align: center; padding: 10px; } table.core { vertical-align: top; text-align: left; border: #000000 0px solid; background-color: #FFFFFF; width: 100%; padding: 10px; font-size: 12px; } table.menu { vertical-align: top; text-align: left; background-color: #FFFFFF; width: 100%; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; } td.menumain{ border-left: #000066 1px solid; padding-left: 10px; padding-right: 10px; padding-bottom: 10px; border-right: #000066 1px solid; border-bottom: #000066 1px solid; margin: 0px; padding-top: 0px; } td.headerfooter-left { text-align: left; } td.headerfooter-right { font-size: 10px; text-align: right; } p.menubody{ color: #FFFFFF; padding: 4px; border-left: #000066 1px solid; border-right: #000066 1px solid; } Any help would be appreciated as I'm stumped! In static FBML (which takes HTML) how do you decrease the spacing after the </p> tag? I have a heading and a subheading that and am separating the two via </p> but the spacing is too much. I can increase, but can't decrease it. I want to remove the space between the top frame and the main frame, but the div on the main frame doesn't start on the top of the frame... http://black1c3.awardspace.com how can i do it??
