HTML - Forcing Reload Of Html Page With 'href's
Hello
I have an issue where I have two web pages generated from Java servlets in NetBeans 5.5. The first of these pages requires some user input and when the page's form is submitted, this input is sent to the server. The server processes the input to generate a text file which is used by a graphing tool to plot a graph as a 'png' file. This text file and graph are then displayed in the HTML generated for the second page using 'href's in a table. This works perfectly well but if the user wants to alter the graph, they have to go back to page one and change the options and resubmit the form. This is where the problem occurs; in Firefox all is well but in Internet Explorer and Opera, when they resubmit the form, page two displays the original graph rather than the changed one. A hard 'refresh' is required via F5 to force the displaying of the new text file and graph. I have tried various of the HTML: meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0\"> alternatives and forcinf reload upon loading the second page but the graph and text file still show original data. Is there a way to force the browser to 'pick up' the new text and graph generated so that the page display is correct? I see this more as an HTML issue rather than a servlets one hence its inclusion in this forum. Thanks Martin O'Shea. Similar TutorialsI have need to include a button in a SharePoint page that will refresh that page, but strip out everyting after the .aspx in the URL (meaning "?blablabla"). I know the simple code <a href="#">click me</a> will load the current page. But is there a code that will strip out everything after the "?" portion? I have plain HTML on the main page and <iFrame> tag on it, inside tag i have URL to other page that using some script that forces host page to reload and show page from frame instead of it. Can i somehow stop it from messing my entire main page? I have a page and need an image to load from the server whenever the page is loaded (even if the user hits the back/forward button). I am aware of doing it with a META tag, but I only want it with one image - not every image on the page. Thanks in advance for the help! I've got a page that, on starting, checks its URL for a hash extension and behaves accordingly. So the hash, or lack thereof, is important. I want this page to contain some hyperlinks to itself, with various hash extensions. It doesn't work! If the URL is just to the page (eg. mypage.html) it reloads fine. But if the URL is, for example mypage.html#&e=extrastuff, the page doesn't reload at all. Is there a solution to this? Hello, I'm not sure if what I'm asking is possible using html, but I'm going to ask anyway... I'm trying to figure out how to have a sidebar randomly cycle through a series of images each time the page is loaded/refreshed. I'd like the same image displayed at the top and bottom of my sidebar, one image each at the top and bottom of my menu list. But I want to make sure that the image displayed at top and bottom are the same one. Here's my current version of the site: http://home.comcast.net/~blayne81/l5rrpgweb/ You can see the menu on the left side of the page and the two images at the top and bottom of the menu. I have another eight or so images I'd like it to display randomly or cycle through in order (it really doesn't matter which), whenever the page loads/reloads so I don't have to manually pick which image appears every page I write, the code will do that for me. Thanks for your help, Brienprime Hi, I am working on adding non java-script buttons on my website using CSS style sheets. I used a technique given at http://builder.com.com/5100-6371-5323375-2.html. I modified the colors a little but it is basically using technique 2 at this link. Everything works well with the exception of one issue. In Internet Explorer, when I press a link and then use the back button on the browser to return to the previous page, the link for the previous page is still selected and the button appears to still be "pressed". You can see this by going to http://www.apexmoves.com with internet explorer, clicking one of the buttons on the left side of the site, and then using the browser's back button. You will see that the link that was clicked is still selected and this button appears to be stuck in the down position. If you click anywhere else on the screen, the button is released. This is because the link for the pressed button is has the status of active. Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this. Is that a way to make the status of this link "visited"? Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Brad Hi-- I was hoping someone could tell me how to edit this contact form so that it does not redirect to another page (the php page)? I'd like it to just simply send the message without leaving the page. The trick here is that I am using a javascript link to submit the form, NOT a button... Any help would be most appreciated! HTML PAGE: <body> <script type="text/javascript"> function submitform() { document.forms["form"].submit(); } </script> <form id= "form" method="POST" name="form" action="mailer.php"> Name: <input type="text" name="name" size="19"><br> <br> E-Mail: <input type="text" name="email" size="19"><br> <br> Message:<br> <textarea rows="9" name="message" cols="30"></textarea><br> <br> <a href="javascript: submitform()" >Searchthis</a> </form> </body> PHP FILE: <?php $to = "info@abcsofufos.com"; $subject = "ABCs of UFOs"; $name_field = $_POST['name']; $email_field = $_POST['email']; $message = $_POST['message']; $body = "From: $name_field\n E-Mail: $email_field\n Message:\n $message"; echo "Data has been submitted to $to!"; mail($to, $subject, $body); ?> My site uses several "tabs" on some pages to help the reader find information of interest. Tabs are working just fine, except for the behavior described below. They are HTML based - essentially anchors using the # sign, using CSS to be pretty and located properly, and are defined like this: <ul> <li><a href="#tab-1">Specs</a></li> <li><a href="#tab-2">Features</a></li> <li><a href="#tab-3">Documents</a></li> etc etc </ul> I have 7 tabs PROBLEM: In some cases, additional code includes an href to another tab on the SAME page, but clicking the link fails to refresh the page and show the new tab. Example: Assume current URL page is: "www.mydomain.com/product.php#tab-5" On this same page, within tab-5, I want to include a link that simply points at tab-6. So my URL link would simply be: ...<a href = "www.mydomain.com/product.php#tab-6">Jump to the next tab</a>... Note the only change in the URL is the '#tab-6' portion. Upon clicking this link: 1) The Browser URL address DOES change to 'www.mydomain.com/product.php#tab-6' 2) The page itself DOES NOT refresh - it stays on the #tab-5 page. Wierd, huh? 3) If I then click on the browser refresh button, the page refreshes properly and it will display tab 6 If the link were to point at a different page - say "www.mydomain.com/services.php#tab-6" - it would work just fine. It only fails to refresh when I am linking to the same, current URL, but different tab. A web developer I know thought he could build a "custom handler" (in Javascript, maybe?) that would solve this; it just seems to me it should work as is. I'm open to any suggestions. My initial thought is that I need the href AND a way to force a refresh in the same step, but maybe there is something more elegant or appropriate out there. Befuddled in CA, tc I have a webpage that has about 100 links on it. All of them point to the same 900+ page document, but go to a different page. This document changes, so that a page may get added prior to a certain page. because of that, I'd prefer not to have to hardcode each of the 100 page numbers. I'd like to have a rolling reference page, so that if the first link started on page 150, and the second link would go to page 155, then I'd like for it to be #page=var1+5. Here is the hardcoded version that I've started creating: <a href="http://.../PDF_file.pdf#page=155">O15_test_setup .... page 5-16</a> the #page=155 would be indicative of the second link above. I'd like to set up an array that i can use in the href tag for each of these links, that will allow me to goto the correct page. and if a page gets added, then it would only take one change to update the file. I've also looked for a way to open the PDF file, and search for the "O15_test_setup" text, but haven't found a way to do that. My thought of how it could be done is with javascript, declare the array, and fill in the array. Something like array(1,1) = first link text (http://...pdf_file.pdf#page=150) array(1,2) = first link displaytext (O14_test_setup) array(2,1) = second link text (http://...pdf_file.pdf#page=155) array(2,2) = first link displaytext (O15_test_setup) Then in the HTML part of the file, have something like <a href = array(1,1);array(2,1)> What is the correct way to do this? Hi, Background: I have a small page that need to be embeded into a bounch of other html pages. Help needed: 1. Please provide the html chunk that I can use to embed the small page in to other html pages. 2. Is there a way of not using iframe? Can I use <Object> or <embed>? How? --------------------------- mba colleges in london hospitality management diploma I have a table with three cells in it, one cell at the top and one cell at the bottom with an image in i.e borders. I then put text in the middle cell, enough that it forces the cell to be greater than the height of my screen and then pushes the bottom cell off the bottom of the screen. How do i make the middle cell (with the text in) a fixed size and create a scroll bar for the text that is off the screen thus keeping the bottom border nice and tidy at the bottom of my screen? Nobody in the ActionScript/Flash community seems to have any answers so I thought I'd try here, since it's really an HTML issue anyway. I built an 800x1400 SWF in Flash CS5 and exported the file in an HTML wrapper, automatically generating the appropriate HTML code in an HTML file for upload to the server with the SWF. The problem is, my resolution is currently set to 800x600 and the HTML page won't scroll down so I can't see any of the content below the top 600 pixels of the SWF. Nobody seems to know how to force the page to add a scroll bar that will scroll down far enough for me to view the entire SWF. Any thoughts? Thanks for your help, ~Josh Generally when you click a link to e. g. JPEG image, it is open in browser window. When you click a link to a ZIP file, it is downloaded. Is there a possibility to force a browser downloading e. g. a JPEG image? pls click on my website (only 80% finished) he http://www.welcometotherash.com the main body is a frame-based environment (except the index page u see first) but i want to force frames so it works properly. if you click on the 'road rash cd' link it brings up the frame page (force frames) but the wrong page is in there - if you use the sidebar and hit 'road rash cd' - thats the page that should be force framed what am i doing wrong? any advice would be gratefully appreciated, thx Hi, When I put some text in a <h1> tag it automatically starts a new line after </h1>. Can I stop this from happening as I want text after it as part of the same sentence. Thanks Paul Hi All I am very new to HTML, and have employed the services of a junior designer to come up with a site for me. It can be seen at www.360ukproperty.co.uk, please excuse some of the pages are not completed yet. When clicking on the menu items, the relevant page loads in the faded out frame. This works on most computers, but for some reason it forces a new window to open up on my PC at home. It wirks fine on my designers's PC, my work PC and my laptop. This problem is on IE6, IE7 and Firefox. Very weird! The code for the homepage is pasted below: Hopefully its something simple.....~? <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <title>360 UK Properties</title> <link href="style.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> </head> <body> <div id="frame" align="center"> <div id="main"> <iframe style="padding-top:94px; float:left;" src="title.html" name="mainFrame" scrolling="no" id="mainFrame" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0" width="659" height="506"> </iframe> <div id="menu" align="left"> <p><a href="index.html">Home</a></p> <p><a href="why.html" target="mainFrame">Why 360?</a></p> <p><a href="how.html" target="mainFrame">How it Works</a></p> <p><a href="gallery.html" target="mainFrame">Gallery</a></p> <p><a href="faq.html" target="mainFrame">FAQ</a></p> <p><a href="price.html" target="mainFrame"> Prices</a></p> <p><a href="contact.html" target="mainFrame">Contact</a></p> <div id="bottom"> <p><a href="mailto:gustavbasch@yahoo.co.uk">info@360ukproperty.co.uk</a><br /> phone: +44 7875374689</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> </body> </html> Hello, I've got a simple page with frames and a list of links.
