HTML - Tables Running Way Too Long In Explorer
Hey guys, I'm new here, and still somewhat of a noob when it comes to html and web design so be easy on me.
One of my new projects is creditcardrewardzone.com, which I thought was looking pretty good until someone told me that it was completely screwed up when they looked at it in Internet Explorer on their windows machine. I myself work on a mac and check it with safari, firefox, and IE, and everything looks fine, but for some reason in IE on windows, the tables run really long to the point where the site isn't functional. If you go to the site and click on cash cards, you can see what I mean. Can anybody look at my code and see if there's something I'm doing wrong? Thanks, Nightfoxx I am not the most technically inclined, so the wording may be iffy ... but I noticed that when I use a table to align images (like jpegs or gifs), my webpages get skewed only when I view them in Windows internet explorer 8 (things seem to be okay in Mozilla, Safari, Chrome, etc etc) ... anyone know why? here is an example: I put an image with a width="32" and a height="29" into a 'TD' tag (data for table) that is also designated a dimension of 32 by 29 pixels ... for some reason in explorer the images skew the table and distort my webpage. note: I set in the table tag: cellpadding = 0 cellspacing =0 border=0 ALSO i set inside the img src tag a 'border=0' to be safe look at the following example (in explorer 8 then the other browsers that seem to work): http://missko.shacknet.nu/cityofrose...bleexample.htm .. in the first (very small) image to the left you can see a green background color just below the image (only in Windows internet explorer 8) meaning it did not fit within the 'table data' boundaries for that particular table. i hope this makes ANY sense .. this is driving me CRAZY! it is happening with ALL my stuff .. i have a feeling there is no way around this. any ideas? thanks. If more 200 items are selected, it will get URL too long when submitted. The url looks like this: http://aha123.com/do?&i=1&i=2&i=3&i=4...... i=1 means item 1 is selected by the user. Is there any workaround in designing the form so that more than 200 selected items can be send to the server? I have a list of music (about 400 items) and I want to put the text in a div the best way. I heard from somebody else that I should put it in a javascript file and link to that to keep my html clean of 400 extra lines. Is that a good idea and how would I go about doing that? If I just do put it in a body tag, is there an easier way of making each item on a separate line like it looks like in a text document? As of now, everything just runs together because there are no <br> tags and it would take forever to do each individual one. Is there an easier way? Thanks. Hi Normally, when you have more than one table in your code, the tables will be placed one under each other. Example: <table> ... </table> <table> ... </table> When you want the tables to be placed next to each other, you need to set the align attribute. Example: <table align="left"> ... </table> <table align="left"> ... </table> BUT: When you do it like in the 2nd example (tables next to each other), in Firefox, the tables will wrap to a new line if there is no more space. In Internet Explorer, the tables will not wrap. The result is a horizontal scrollbar or "hidden tables". Why this? How can I make the tables wrap also in Internet Explorer as it does in Firefox? Thanks, Kev My webpage has become very long. The scrollbar goes on and on, which is perfectly OK. The problem is maintaining the code! In order to show all the data that is displayed, I need one .html page. There are about 10 distinctly different sections, each within their own <div> tag. Each section contains ~1000-10000 lines of code to show all the data. Yes, the page can take a while to load, depending on connection speed but this is how it must be...for now. So, my thought is that I would have something like a "div_section1name.txt" file. The contents of the file would start and end with <div></div> tags. The html document would use this file as if it were in the page, but NOT like a <frame>. I have external .css and .js files for this page. Can I create an external file (extension unknown) that contains only portions of the html, then linked to just like the .css file, for example? Is there a valid mime type for <link> to make this work? How else could I do this? BTW, I'm pretty sure I could not database this. Many, many thanks in advance! Hi everyone I have read a few articles on this and I would like to explain what I am doing. In the site I am developing I have put the sites logo in a div and in the CSS I have put the image of the logo as the background-image. I would like to know if there are any tricks when adding the alt, title and long description tags? I am also using a h1 inside the div with the logo bg image with a text indent so the text doesnt show. This helps with SEO. I have given the div a title with the logo's name inside the title. But can I do more by adding an alt tag and long description? Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks! I am trying to display some long text in a <PRE> tag to preserve formatting. When there is really long text in a <pre> tag, part of the text is not displaying on the screen when you scroll over. All of the text is there when I do a view source, but on the screen part of it is hidden and only shows up when highlighted with a mouse. I am not sure if there is some kind of character limitation in PRE or what but I just cannot figure this out. And like I said, this only happens in IE. It seems that when I combine a right-aligned TD with a UL in the following row in a TD with a colspan of "2", where the content of the right-aligned TD is a word with no spaces, IE goes into spasms. In Opera, Google Chrome, Firefox, and Safari, all is well. Yet in IE, right-padding seems to get automatically added to the right-aligned TD. If I either remove the UL, get rid of the first column in the first row, or break up the long word, it displays fine. Yet, if all those things remain in place, IE just doesn't seem to be able to get its act together. Anyone? Somewhat a newbie at web design, but I know basics. I'm looking to put 2 tables adjacent to each other inside another table. My problem is I can't get the tables to line up the way I want them to. Just a red cross upon the corner (I've tried to view on Firefox and Internet Explorer) When clicking propeties on the picture and entering into the Firefox html I am met with, This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it.
