HTML - Inserting Flash Navbar [was "help Needed!"]

I'm currently having a question about the best way / proper / easiest way to make a navbar, out of an straight 50px box.

(The name of the css element is #Navbar)


So, what i'm trying to do simply is to split this "line" or box up into pieces (take 5 for an example). what would be the right way to do this to keep it simple?

Im moving to a strict Doctype and I can't be bothered inserting alt = "" tags to images that need them. Can anyone provide a regular expression that I could use in dreamweaver that would insert alt = "" into an <img > tag if it already didn't contain the alt = "" attribute

I am using swfobject javascript to write flash content to a div. while there are many great advantage to using this method one i rather like is how easy it is to display alternative content if the user does not have flash player installed. You simply put whatever you want to be displayed inside the div, if flash player is not installed it is displayed, if it is, the flash writes over the div content.

Since i'm using javascript to load the flash anyway, i took it a step further and used javascript to load the alternative flash content.

The only problem is in ie, i receive a null error because when the flash is writen to the div the noflash div is "deleted" so when the javascript trys to write to it it doesent find it and i receive a null error.

One solution was to make a second hidden 'noflash' div but then i have a validation problem with duplicate ids.

I've seen on some sites, adobe.com for example, where a Flash movie appears to 'hover' above the contents of the rest of the site seemingly not confined to a cell. Many of these are triggered by rollover of a link presumably coded in the HTML. I'm wondering how to do it. I know how I would do it if I authored the entire site in Flash, but these pages that I'm seeing are HTML, ASP, JSP, etc.

Anyone??
