HTML - I Am A Newbie...anyone Know A Good Html Software???

I'm in need of a software that searches text in html files and replaces them ignoring the html tags. As example replace 1 with <b>1.</b> it should ignore tags like color="111111" and not make color="<b>1.</b><b>1.</b><b>1.</b><b>1.</b><b>1.</b><b>1.</b>" out of it.

REally, I don't have that much time to be an expert at HTML or CSS - but was wondering what CMS' are quick to learn that has a lot of templates. I know WordPress is one - just wondering if there are anymore...I'm sure there is.

Kindly let me know if I can get professional templates which can be amended according to one's needs.

I'm a noob here and I'm at my wits end. The real problem here is that I know just enough to get myself into trouble, but no concept on how to dig myself out of it. The website I'm working on is he

My problem is that it looks OK in Explorer, but looks like a trainwreck in Firefox. It was designed by retrofitting a template I bought years ago, so it's like trying to decipher the amatuer translation of a Russian mad scientist's codex. I apologize in advance.

I've been moving DIV's back and forth for days and Explorer doesn't seem to care. Things just keep getting worse and worse in Firefox.

I think the main issue is that I have a left column and then the header that spans the middle and right columns. I can see how Firefox might hate that...

The next problem (and I'm hoping someone might have an idea on this): I used a modern header calling this whole mess XHTML. I know exactly squat about the differences between HTML and XHTML except that XHTML loves to have everything "/>"ed.

Would all of this work if the header called it transitional HTML and give myself a little leeway? What code should be at the top of my page?

I m wondering which hmtl editors everyone here prefers. I have downloaded HTML-Kit & Page Breeze but I am not the sharpest tool & I end up getting frustrated as I need a more user friendly editor. Something for the ADHD adult I really won't be using advanced things like media for now, only basic HTML & CSS. What I am trying to accomplish is to get a website done without media or movable images.

Also, someone told me that there are some editors which come with ready made commands, for e.g maybe such as creating a table by just clicking anywhere. Of course, I will have to specify other things.

Are there any editors which automate a lot of your work & save time?

Can anyone recommend a good tutorial site for learning HTML? I'm just starting out. Free is good, but I know you get what you pay for, so if the tutorials are good, I wouldn't mind paying for something of good quality. I don't want to get in over my head too soon and get discouraged. I'd really like to find some video tutorials.

Hey, i have an idea regarding html templates and im not sure whether its a bad way to use html or good idea, my idea is that you make or download a template and set it as your background, then you just add the content over the boxes and stuff where it needs to go. also if thats bad html then how do you set out a template with all the content not messing up the page. all opinions greatly appreciated.

Hello! I' completely new at this so bear with me!

I have one of those floating opt-in boxes (hover ad) on my site and when the visitor types in his email and name and hits submit I want the little pop up window to be automatically closed too, leading him back to the homepage.

I've tried "onClick= close.wondow()" but that closes both the window and the homepage. Is there any way around this? This is the html part of the code for the subscription form.

Hey guys

I'm trying to build my own website and sell an e-book on it *too poor to afford a webmaster at this point so I'm using a friend's Dreamweaver program to build my site*

I have five panels for my menu but 6 pages for my website. the last page is a download page where they are taken after after paying for the book and this is not listed in the web menu panel as it contains the download link. if i used this as my html reference link, would this work if the page is loaded on the server ?

eg www.dreamtime.com/thankyou_yourpurchase.html

the code would be something like this and the page is already loaded on the server but would it work and if not, what should i do ?

Any advice would be so helpful as i thought i could do this but when i typed in the download page, it didn't come up though the page is already on the server.

As a newbie to html I can just about manage to build a webpage with text in the middle, photographs at the bottom and even adding an e-mail address.
I would like to make the page much more proffessional looking by adding buttons on the left hand side, splitting the text into two columns with perhaps photographs as part of the second column.
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction as to where to start.
I do not mind finding out on the web the code etc needed but would appreciate a little guidance. For instance do I need to make tables or is it forms!
Do I need a table for the buttons and then a table for each column. You can see I am getting confused....

Is it possible to a background as a layer(that is the background is a centered layer no matter how big a monitor's screen is)?

A simple javascript won't be bad, i'm still a html beginner, i've done the first part of a university course on html but i'm designing a website that may need some features more advanced than i've gotten in the course.

Also, can someone explain to me how forums work or how they are written in html. I don't understand how to make a forum that can accept posts immediately (kinda like this one). Is a javascript necessary for forums?

So I'm trying to implement a chat-room software on my website.

It works fine on FireFox and Google Chrome. It also passes the XHTML validation from w3cschools.

So, what is the issue? It won't work in internet explorer.

Please someone give me a hand with this!

I just need to write an html page (or asp) or whatever, that takes a varialble from a form and opens/makes an http call to another page using the variable the user input. For example, the user enters there name (Bob)on a page and hit submit. I need Bob at the end of the call.

I then need the following opened/called or whatever.

I am very new to programming and just need this for a quick work project.
