HTML - Search Engines Nightmare
Similar TutorialsHi, I want to make a search box on my website. The thing is that I would like the search bar to be able to search on multiple search engines. For example I can type a movie in the search field and then I can select if I want to search for the movie either on google or on IMDb. Despite the code seemingly correct, Google & Yahoo seem to ignore it. I have heard Google takes at least 6 hours to propagate any changes in the index.html, but it's been about 12 hours now and nothing has changed. Here is what Google displays: (see attachment) As you can tell from the attachment, it's retrieving text from the body of my index file. This is NOT what I want. It needs to read from the meta description instead. I have a particular page on my website that I DO NOT want to be spidered by search engines. I have done research and read about the following META tag code: I see that there are basic tags and then there are separate tags for MSN, AOL, and other sites in general. I guess there is no way to prevent every search engine from finding you but does too many meta tags cause confusion or just do their job? I am so confused Thanks for the help in advance I am having troubles with frame navigation...I have 2 sites with the same frameset configuration of a topFrame and a lower mainFrame. I want a link on the mainFrame of site A to open a page in the mainFrame of site B. The page that I want to open is located on site B but whenever I click on the link in site A it opens in the mainFrame of site A. I know that specifying the target as _parent will take it out of the frame it's in, but how do I target it to open in the mainFrame of site B? A friend asked me to help validate their code. Like a mug I said yes. How hard could it be? Then I found that FrontPage does not appear to use CSS (gulp) and is steam-powered or something. Aarghh! Well - I sure bit off more than I could chew this time. I figure I'll add a CSS external file, let's say main.css, and reference it in the header. There are dozens of errors of course, things that no sane person has seen before... Like for example a 'microsoftborder'. Hmm, no wonder FrontPage died! Anyway, my friend can't change now, the site is too big and complicated. We just need to get some important pages to validate - like the index page for example. The first job is a whole-page border she has: it's a 5px gold border, stepped in by 5px, all round the page. That all fails miserably in validation as it's got stuff like [bordercolordark="#c0c0c0"] etc. Yikes. So I want to strip that out and put something sensible in the CSS. Anyone tell me what the CSS code for a whole-page 5px border is, stepped in 5px all round, please? You'll be helping a poor FrontPage victim. My page contains the text "giraffes in corduroys" 2. somebody googles that text - either as a phrase or just the words 3. google points them to my page 4. the user clicks to go to my page... Is there any way to determine that it was the text "giraffes in corduroys" which brought them to my page? Would the crux be getting the previous URL in the browser history? I'm trying to do two things...first: I'm trying to set up a search box in frame 1 that will search, scroll to and highlight text in frame 2. Is this possible? I've been searching around for days looking for answers, and have so far come up short. I managed to create a search box in frame 1 that reloads frame 2, but that's not really what I'm after. ---------------------------- Now for the second thing I'm looking to do (along the same lines): I want to click a link in frame 1 that scrolls to a target in frame 2 and highlights it. Basically I have two sites, one has thousands of sound effects on it, the other is more of a portal site. On the portal site I want to add a search box that will link into the other sites database so that the user would navigate away from the portal site and be taken to the stabndard search results page of the main site based on thier queory. I'm using IE8 to test Hi, I'm trying to add a google search box (in a table) to my web page, but for some reason it the input button links to the page I am currently on. The strange part is that I put the same exact code in another cell right next to the other google search box and that one works wonderfully while the first one still links to the current page. It is the same with any search engine (yahoo, bing, ask), the first search box links to the current page and the rest work great. What I need is to create two input boxes in html: 1 needs to be a drop down menu 2 the other needs to be a text box From those, the info in the two inputs will be thrown into a new page as the address, along with other information. How can this happen? code is preferred. |
