HTML - Trouble With Disappearing External Links To Free Photo Hosting Sites
Hi, I'm new to this forum and would like to apologize in advance for the "general" nature of this question. I am a new moderator for another Forum type website. The website has for years had no image upload feature and had users place in their posts external links to free photo hosting sites.
Recently, the website added a feature to upload images directly onto their server, allowing them to be locally archived rather than remotely linked to the other photo hosting website. Now, 99.9 % of the Forum users have never purchased prints from the photo hosting site, including myself. Though the host site has never sent me any notification on my account, the older picture links on my posts have ceased to work, displaying only red X's instead. This is now beginning to happen all over the Forums, creating a slow errosion of images from the older posts. It would be ideal to create some type of program or utility to "saveas", then convert all of the older images to the new local hosting, thus eliminating the problem. This would solve the problem for the newer eternally linked images - unfortunately the older ones are probably lost. Does anyone have any ideas or sugestions on this? (I did a search but was unable to find anything) Thanks! A&N Similar TutorialsAre there any sites you can run your site or pages through and it will let you know if there are any html errors? Like
but forget the
, etc? I recently uploaded files to fatcow and they can be see here http://kovcreation.com/ This is the html for the links.

<a href='index.html'"><font color="584842"vlink="#bb2826"alink="#584842">Home

<a href='Portfolio.html'"><font color="584842"vlink="#bb2826"alink="#584842">Portfolio

<a href='Contact.html'"><font color="584842"vlink="#bb2826"alink="#584842">Contact

It works locally but once uploaded to there servers I get a "page not found" after clicking a link. The link to the index page works but not the others. The people at fatcow where completely useless and just kept saying it was a scripting issue. however, if it were a scripting issue it wouldn't work locally. Any insight? Hi guys, Does anyone have any links to where I can upload (give) a free template. I Googled it but quite surprised to find a lack of "submit a template" links! Is it possible to log the amount of times an external link has been clicked on your site? I've got lots of external links on one of my pages, I say lots - there's one in a PHP echo that directs someone to a route planner, and this url goes http://routeplanner.rac.co.uk/showmu...it=1&daddress= [First part of address going to postcode] %20 [Second part of address going to postcode] &daddress_limit=1&vaddress1=&vaddress1_limit=1&vaddress2=&vaddress2_limit=1&vaddress3=&vaddress3_lim it=1&vaddress4=&vaddress4_limit=1&vaddress5=&vaddress5_limit=1&rtype=fast&preferences=3&trafficcondi tions=3&nextgengeo=1 This does not validate, and returns me 409 errors ( nice )... ...So how would you a validate the link ? Thanks for any ideas Hi everyone, I have a problem, Im in the process of designing a new ebay listing template for my company and want to add this new template to my listings gradually as i edit them. i cant add it to them all in one big lump as i have over 2000 listings and this would take stupd amoutns of time which quite simply i dont have if i was adding it all at once i would add the "shop categories" bar on the side of the screen which shows the categories of your ebay shop in clickable inks. but i cant do this because when i do it messes up the listings i havent changed yet anyway, ebays not the problem. what i need to know is, is it possible to make a links section much like the shop categories section that i can put on my listing design now youre probably thinking "what! is this guy retarded you just gotta put a few links in a table" but heres the thing, im making everything on the listing template updateable from externally so that i can edit things on it without having to go trhrough each template, for example i am making all my payment information sections and returns policy sections .GIF files so i can link them all to the same image and change them all at once just by changing that image. so what i ideally need is a links section that i can have on another site or something (was hoping youd all be able to explain this to me) that i can have also on my listing templates so i only need to change it on this site to change it on all of them. as im not a vastly experienced web designer the only option i have thought of is embeddign a flash file that uses actionscript to make the links.. but obviously browsers hate flash and not everyone has it installled, also it takes a while to load just for a few links, so this is not a good option if anyone can help i would be very appreciative! So... I am making a website to learn some web design but I am having trouble. On this wesbite, the main site is composed of a layout, and all the links and whatever get opened in an Iframe. There is a nav bar on the left with links like "Music, Videos, Games" etc... and on the music section there is alot of music files (that I am hosting) to listen to. What I want to do is embed an object on the main frame, the one with the Iframe on it, and when you click one of the songs, instead of downloading it (or playing it in a new page) it plays it in the embed. I have looked for a few sites, most of them arent compatible with IE7 and Firefox at the same time... which is important (Mainly firefox though =] ) I need some help All my music files are stored in ".../Files/Music/" and the iframe is set up in the Index.htm, which links to "Music.htm" which has about 60 links to music, which I dont want people to download, I want them to be there to listen to! Hi, my name is Josh, and I'm fairly new to website design, so therefore, also a little new to HTML. I apologize in advance for the length of my post, but I feel I really need to be specific as much as possible. Let me be honest with you. I have very limited knowledge on the subject, but I am a quick learner. Anyway, I'm creating a directory on my website where the visitor would be able to clink on one of 51 links, aligned in 3 columns, to take them to a page listing businesses within one of the 50 states. The 51st link, of course, would be directing visitors to an international listing page. Then below the links for the different states, there is supposed to be 26 links, one for each letter of the alphabet, so the visitor can find a business by name. Following that, of course, would begin the listing of the businesses. Basically, I've been teaching myself HTML so far by viewing the source code of pages I visit, and I discover a basic idea of how to do different things with web design. Let me show you the format I've been trying to grasp with this project by giving you an example code. The following code places the links for the states all at the bottom, and also they are not aligned properly, as the first column appears higher than the second which is also higher than the third. I'm not sure I quite understand the way this code works, or what mistake I'm making with it. What I would actually rather do is have a code creating a drop-down box which the visitor would just select their option, and be directed to the requested page immediately, but I don't know how to do that either. At any rate, I do also need to figure out how to get those state-by-state links to appear at the top of the business listings instead of at the very bottom of the page the way it is appearing now with this code. If anybody could help me figure out what the heck I'm doing, I would really appreciate it. I placed three dots "..." in many places to signify where large irrelevant portions of the page have been omitted, especially where I eliminated the thousands of business listing codes...lol. It may also have not been necessary to provide as much of the code as I did, but I just wanted to make sure that what I need is understood so perhaps I can get some help. Thank you everyone in advance for your assistance... Anyone know of a good one? I want to add one to my site, but the good ones you can't customize for free, and the ones you can customize are lower quality. Hey everyone im 13 ive finally finished a website that has been going for ages ive typed it all up on notepad and i was wondering if there were any tips on web hosting. like it will have videos and music so i was wondering like what would be a good path to take. Any help appreciated and when ive put it on the web illl post the adress cheers PS its my first post I need a web hosting.I live in Pakistan but i don't know which feature in web hosting is best . is bandwidth really important ? how much bandwidth i need? when bandwidth finish what will happen ? is bandwidth onlu occur when some one download or just view any page? my website will be 1 gb to 2 gb space? so how much bandwidth how much i need ? I know this is NOT the place to put this but im really not sure where to put it and thought that this would be the best place to get it moved to the correct place quickly. Sorry for any inconvinience caused by placing this here. My problem: Ive been working on a website for a friend for a week or 2 and have just finished it. I have been hosting it on my own computer while developing it and everything worked fine when i viewed and anyone else did (from the internet). I just uploaded it all onto their host (namesco i believe) and only 5 of the 8 webpages load. The other 3 are accessible via ftp and can be viewed through that so i know they are there and working but through http its asif they dont exist. I have tried changing the file types from html to, htm and php. Both with no luck (also changing the links in the files of course). This has really got me stumped and cant figure it out. Thanks for helping people I ran into this article and thought I would share it . there is a criteria at the bottom on how the hosting companies were selected. http://www.bestwebhosting2008.com/?g...FQUsPAodjm-jPQ Great artilce. Some have affiliate links at the bottom for designers to join. I am looking for a hosting site that lets me use Wordpress Multi user (WPMU). For whatever reason, fatcow.com doesn't allow me to use WPMU. I am looking for price and ease of use for my coders. Thanks for your input!! K so a while back ago I created my website using microsoft frontpage 2003, but since then my harddrive has crashed (got one up and running now) and I cant find the CD to install it again on my new formatted harddrive.. So I took the source code off the website that was up and worked with that in notepad. Eventually figured out what I needed to do to get it to do what I needed (basically I just wanted to add more pictures in my gallery, was easy to figure out just by looking at the source code). So now I have, what appears, to be working html code (when I open the .html file in internet explorer, all the links seem to be in working order). But I'm not sure how to get the new source code applied to my website. When I was using frontpage, I was able to 'publish to web', and that seemed to take care of all the file managing. So without that 'publish to web' button, I'm at a loss. My web hosting is omnis. I figure I have to do something with the file manager when I log in. But, for instance, I'm not sure what to do with the actual source code to apply it, and exactly how to set up directories and whatnot manually. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated (or atleast has some links to some good tutorials/help websites. I've been looking around and can't seem to find what I need. ) Thanks My newspaper's TownNews web hosting format gets REALLY screwy when I use the title attribute. Can anyone help? I write for a weekly newspaper that utilizes the TownNews web hosting company for the paper's site. Posting the paper's stories to the web for each edition is my responsibility, one that I take seriously and would like to develop. TownNews uses its own in-site software to post stories, with built-in text fields for "Insert Title Here," "Insert Byline Here," etc. You can use standard HTML within these fields, but based on the pre-made structure of the site's layout, certain features cannot be used. Or at least it seems that way. I'm hoping I'm wrong about this. The main trouble I'm having is the title attribute in HTML. I know now, thanks to friendly and helpful responders here, that it's as easy as "title=..." within HTML code. But if anyone else out there knows the TownNews format of posting stories, you know it doesn't like the title attribute because of its own site structure. Is there any way around this? Has anyone else encountered similar dificulties? I desperately want to use the title attribute. Thanks. ok im messing around with cpanel (just got hosting from inmotionhosting.com) and i downloaded a layout and im uploading the index.html, images, and the css file to cpanel but when i go to view the page, the pictures dont show. what am i doing wrong? Recently our web devolper for our karnival group has stepped down. He gave me the user name and password for the ftp and for strato.de . I want to create a database but I can not figure out how to becuase I do not know what my web hosting software is.(IE Plesk) Is there a way I can find this out because I can not contact the old web master... Thanks! Matt Ok i have all my html codes my index.html and everything now i just need to know how do i host it? im going to use http://www.dot.tk to host it but how do i take my raw html files and host it to a domain? Thanks! I was wondering how to get rid of some pesky html code 000webhost.com puts at the bottom of my site. They insert it when I upload the site. When you search the site in google is comes up "Free Hosting", and I have my own domain. Is there a way to override this? Here's the code inserted: HTML Code: Thanks in advance, - D-Technodude |
