HTML - Linux Browser Font Issue
First Post! Yeah now thats out of the way...
I've just designed a Linux Tutorial site for a friend who is a Linux fanatic. However, I've used Arial as the font. When the site is viewed in Linux (I think its the Mozilla browser) it appears in this odd font. I was wondering if anyone knows which fonts Linux broswers display best - so I can assign it to the 2nd choice in the CSS. Arial being number1 for Windows browsers, then going to the 2nd choice if its Linux and it cant find the Windows font. Any help whatsoever would be appreciated. Thanks! Similar TutorialsI am in the process of re-designing my website. old site www.ghilliesuitsource.com new site still a work in progress www.ghilliesuitsource.com/gss_test I am struggling with 2 things on my new site. 1) The parallelogram (tilted rectangle) images in the background are seperated by paragraph breaks so that I can alternate between left and right aligned. While all of the forground "stuff" text and product images are AP DIV elements so they hold their spacing. Page looks like I intend it to in IE but netscape/firefox appear to use a different paragraph break line size causing the forground "stuff" to appear lower and lower with respect to the parallelograms, and it gets worse the further down the page you go. 2) It appears as though IE will not change text size inside an AP DIV element when you go to "view-Text Size" This is good because I am using a graphic to act as a border around text. Netscape and Firefox do change font sizes in AP DIV elements so when you select a larger fontsize the text "spills" out of the border. If you can help me out with either of these problems I would certainly appreciate it. The project I have been working on is using the 'Cooper' font. I have noticed that the 'Cooper' font is not installed on a few of the computers I have tested the site on. What can I do to insure that the webpage is viewed the way I intended it to be viewed? Is there a work around to this issue? or do I need to use a pre-installed font? Hi, I've get this website http://jigsawpropertiesuk.com and it looks perfectly fine in firefox but once you use internet explorer thats when things start going wrong. the login/register thing at top is moved all the way to the right and so is the right fade picture. In addition near the bottom of the page where the posts are located the text is out of position. I have no clue what so ever why its doing this since I've never had this issue with other websites. The css is located he http://jigsawpropertiesuk.com/wp-con...ties/style.css Any help is appreciated I have studied my code and for the life of me can't figure out why the header is not showing up in IE7 (windows). It shows up in all other browsers just fine. Can someone help me and take a look at my code and tell my what I may have missed? http://www.kingcrabshack.com/ Thank you for your time. Hi all, I created a HTML page with CSS. While i ran the code in IE 8.0, the alignment was in order. But when i ran the same HTML code in other lower versions of IE, i am facing some alignment problem like submenu arrangement, displacement in the page contents. Please anybody suggest me with a solution. What is that i should do to rectify it.. Thanks and Regards.. Hello folks. I have been trying out this site as a beta for a hockey team. I am developing a site and have an issue with ONE page in particular. Every other page looks great! http://web.mac.com/chris.ducasse/force_beta/staff.html That is the culprit. I have looked over the source code, and cannot find anything that would cause it. What happens, if you don't see it, is that the page does not take the entire site width, it wraps the text at about 2 inches or so away from the right edge of the page. Any help is appreciated. Also, I got the navigation bar (modified it myself) from Open Source Web Design and want to give the artist credit - where do I do that in HTML code? Thanks again. i have created / installed a new drop-down menu. i would like the menu to stretch 100% of the header / page, but, when i resize my browser i dont want the menu to resize along with the page. i want it to stay static and not resize as it is messing up the menu. if you have a look at http://www.bmwgallery.co.uk/ and resize your browser around abit you will know what i mean. please i hope somebody has a simple fix. many thanks Hi, I have had a new template developed for osCommerce, most browsers display the site correctly such as Firefox but Internet Explorer has some issues. IE shows the site as being aligned differently with some other design issues. I think it may be a problem with the stylesheet. My domain is InkRound.co.uk Here is the CSS code from stylesheet.css My site is using a HTML based template with osCommerce. When you go to my site www.sforu.com with IE 6 or IE7 the picture is all misaligned, So could you take a look and let me know whats wrong with it, because it's driving me crazy Thank you Please help me make my menus compatible in more than just firefox... aka Safari and IE lunch dinner thank you! Greetings, This is my first post... I'm a novice web developer and pro drummer running www.ProMusicTeachers.com. The site is php/mysql, we have a search function smack in the middle of the index page that is set up as a <table>. The table should have a background image... this is the code I'm using is <table border="0" bgcolor="#FF9900" background="/images/searchgraphic.jpg" align="center" cellspacing="3" cellpadding="0" width="617"> to create the table, then comes the form. However, the background image shows up only in Safari, but not IE or Firefox. This seems like a very simple tag... and I swear last night it showed up in Firefox too but this morning will not. Any suggestions? Much thanks, Brian IE8 and Chrome display this as I would like. Firefox does something strange: any cell that doesn't have a corresponding cell in the next row down will be extended into that row. Any ideas? HTML Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head><title> Untitled Page </title> <link rel="Stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/SMSTool.NET/css/StyleSheet.css" /> <style type="text/css"> table{ border-collapse:collapse; border:solid black 1px; } td, th{ border:solid black 1px; } </style> </head> <body> <table> <tr><td>TD</td><th>TH</th><th>TH</th><td>TD</td></tr> <tr><th>TH</th><td>TD</td><td>TD</td></tr> <tr><th>TH</th><td>TD</td><td>TD</td></tr> <tr><td>TD</td></tr> </table> </body> </html> If anyone can help with this problem I would be very grateful. It's a problem I notice on a fairly regular basis so I guess I am over looking something when I am working with tables. Basically my table sizes look completely different in IE than they do in Firefox. Here is an example of a table I'm working on that appears massive in firefox yet is keeping its correct dimensions of height 287 pixels in IE. http://www.orolin.co.uk/prices.html Can anyone shed any light on this problem?. It would be much appriciated. Many Thanks, Jamie Using AJAX & php to return a randomly generated number of single column tables, and drop them into a <div> element. ( http://www.thegreatmartinicompany.co...ace-value.html ). I've set the div to text-align: center, and put auto margins on the tables. The result is the tables are centered and equally spaced in the div element regardless of the number of tables returned. As appropriate FF and IE display the tables side by side, but Safari stacks them on top of each other. An example of the returned code is below. Any ideas why Safari does not display this as IE and FF do? <table style="margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto"><tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> </table> <table style="margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto"><tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> </table> <table style="margin-left:auto; margin-right:auto"><tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> <tr><td></td></tr> </table> Does anyone know of a font face generator that can convert a TTF or OTF font file into the 4 formats (woff, svg, eot, ttf), that's not font squirrel? That site only supports English fonts with a very low file size limit, and can't convert any foreign fonts. Already tried http://onlinefontconverter.com as well, doesn't work either as I waited like an hour then the server simply deleted my uploads without so much as an error pop-up lol, and now the website is not responding. This is for usage in CSS using the @font-face function. Thanks. Hello, When I try to set a font in HTML it works, but if I set a rule in my CSS to set the same font, it doesn't. Here are the three things I do (not at the same time of course): <font face="Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica"> ... ... ... </font> vs body { font-family: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica; } or even... body { font: Verdana, Tahoma, Arial, Helvetica; } Out of all of those, only the first can change the font in my browser...is this a CSS issue because, somehow, the browser has superiority over CSS, and HTML has superiority over the browser? I would appreciate input. Thanks. Hi, Wonder if you can help please. I have a long established ASP page called carkeys.asp - which does not work on my new Linux hosting (whoops should have know that). Before I change back to a windows platform is there anyway this page can be bounced to the replacement page at carkeys.html? The .asp page is well ranked with google and I would like its statistics to be directed to the new html page. I have code for the re-direction, but the page cannot be viewed to get this far. http://www.lockcity.co.uk/carkeys.asp > http://www.lockcity.co.uk/carkeys.html Many thanks for any help you can give Abi Hi, This is in the wrong place... but I didn't know where to put it!!! I wanted to put it in the server administration, but that was divided by Unix, Linux, and Windows anyways and I didn't know if I should just choose one or what. I think this can be moved if someone knows where the best place is. Right? Getting to the point... I have no idea what the difference is as far as Windows and Linux web hosting servers? I am using one of Brinkster.com's shared server plans (because they are cheap!). They give an option between Windows and Linux. Which one is better? Which one should I use? Any suggestions? Thanks!!! Can anyone suggest a good html editor for linux? i am looking for something that has code/element shortcuts, is not a WYSIWYG editor and has a preview function. Thanks. |
