JavaScript - Error Message For Function If No Result Found

I have got a script for chat room from hotscripts however the author has left the site and I am not able to contact him. So if anyone here can guide me a bit? It is basically a php/ajax chat room script using javascript. It runs fine here is a demo:

i have set it up properly and it is even using mysql database. My question is that I want to make log of what ever the chat is happening (even the private ones) as I am admin. I am very good at php and understand what he has done in php but I when it comes to javascript i am not a person for it. So if anyone can help me with javascript? Cause when I see the msg send button source code it shows onclick is javascript:void(0) means it is using a java script. And there are total of 4 js files used:

Note: log saved in database only remains for 15 minutes or somewhat like that cause i checked the data the old conversation was gone so I am now trying to use PHP fwrite code. i know how to write and implement it but again it has to go in some js file where the send button is related and I am not sure which file and exactly where. So any help would be appreciated.

Hi there, I have this form that validates a few textboxes & a dropdownlist. And when it is not filled in, the border of the textboxes and dropdownlist would turn red, followed by an alert message notifying which field have not been filled in.



Else, the border will revert back to black, and the form will be submitted successfully. There's a problem whereby when everything is filled in, the alert message still pops up. Any kind souls to help me? Thanks in advance.

Hello all,

I am new to these forms, and new to Javascript as well. I have gone through some lessons, and have been trying to write a simple script on my own. Here is what I am trying to do:

I am calculating a volume, and want to display the result of that calculation. I then want to take the result and multiply it by 2 and display that as well. Here is what I have so far:

So far so good... but I cant figure out how to then take that result that was displayed in the console and save it as a variable (if that would be the correct way to do it) so that I can modify the result by 2.

I have tried several things with no luck.

How can I save the result of a function or pass it to another function?

Hi friends,

I am trying to use the window.setTimeout feature so that a message pop-up with yes/no appears on the screen asking whether to extend the session. The actual sessions expires on 5 seconds.

*If yes is clicked, the current page reloads.
*If no is clicked, nothing happens. (the session will expire anyway).

Many pages is open fastest, but other delays several seconds or minutes!

I am a newbie in JS, and have already been stuck with this problem for

Basically I want to display a var returned from a function with
<fmt:message/> tag. It sounds easy, but somehow I just can't get it

I am working on creating a basic calorie calculator with Javascript and my code is not showing the results after the user makes their selections. I've created a simple function to obtain the user's weight, activity and duration info but when I use the GetElementById to retrieve the result, it does not show up. Hi,
I have dozens of pages on my website which have just started showing an 'Error on page' message at the bottom left of Internet Explorer 8.0.
These messages do not appear when using Mozilla Firefox.
My website is www.lakesandcumbria.com and an example of a page showing the error message is http://www.lakesandcumbria.com/view/walks/ambleside.htm which contains a javascript drop down list. All other pages using this type of drop down list are showing the same error message (dozens of them).
I have ensured that 'Script debugging' is disabled in Internet Explorer but this hasn't helped!
Help - How can I stop this happening in Internet Explorer 8.0 please?

Hi, first post here. I was working on code for opening a link in a new window when clicked. I read somewhere that it's a good idea to remove all of the javascript elements from the HTML. So I pieced it together and it works. But I get the following error in IE8:

Hi,

I have written a function to compare each character in startString with another nominated character (nomChar). If they are the same this character is written to outputString, in the same position. If they are not the same a character is lifted from the same position in altString and placed in the same position in outputString instead. I hope that's clear!
