JavaScript - Sound Plays Locally, Downloads On Site
Hi,
yes I have 2 questions up related to audio! Not sure Javascript is the problem. I am trying 2 completely different methods. Either would be OK if they worked. With this method the audio works fine testing locally in the browser, popping up a window with a helper player BUT when on the site it opens the window which then downloads the mp3 instead of playing it. http://museum.spps.org/pop_up_audio.html This is the script Code: <script> <!-- function wopen(url, name, w, h) { // Fudge factors for window decoration space. // In my tests these work well on all platforms & browsers. w += 32; h += 96; var win = window.open(url, name, 'width=' + w + ', height=' + h + ', ' + 'location=no, menubar=no, ' + 'status=no, toolbar=no, scrollbars=no, resizable=no'); win.resizeTo(w, h); win.focus(); } // --> </script> This is the code for the link text Code: <a href= "uploads/2ndGraders.mp3" rel="nofollow" target="popup" onClick="wopen('uploads/2ndGraders.mp3', 'popup', 350, 150); return false;"> 2nd Graders talk about Museum Magnet</a> hope someone can help. I am not a javascripter, I just hunted down a couple of things that looked like they might work. thanks Mark Similar TutorialsHi, I worked on this website : http://www.kesslercareers.com/index.html and cannot find out why it does not work in IE while it works in other browsers. The small video does not play while the sound does. As far as I can see it works fine in FF and Chrome. Anybody any idea? Thanks Purmar Hi, am developeing application in java. here wat i have to do is to highlight words in html file. ie) i have one html file and same content in audio file. when i open the html file audio should play n it should highlight the word in html file on which audio plays. for eg) i have html file with content " hello world". i have same audio file saying "hello world". now when i open html file and click audio, and if audio says hello, hello should highlight in html file, then audio says world, world should highlight in html file. how to do this. can u please suggest some idea. thanks. I must make clear that I am not a javascript programmer; I am simply trying to get this script to work on my website. It functions perfectly locally (with all browsers), but after uploading to my website, it shows the controls at the top, but not the content. Below is the code for the FreeMind Flash Browser which can be found he http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki.../Flash_browser It requires 2 additional files, flashobject.js and visorFreemind.swf plus the FreeMind file (*.mm) that stores the content. The FreeMind file that has the content displays perfectly on localhost, but not on the website. I have all of these files in the same directory and have double checked everything, but it still doesn't function on my website. I have other flash files and scripts on the same website in other pages that function perfectly. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1" /> <meta name="description" content="freemind flash browser"/> <meta name="keywords" content="freemind,flash"/> <title>MINDMAPS</title> <script type="text/javascript" src="flashobject.js"></script> <style type="text/css"> /* hide from ie on mac \*/ html { height: 100%; overflow: hidden; } #flashcontent { height: 100%; } /* end hide */ body { height: 100%; margin: 0; padding: 0; background-color: #9999ff; } </style> <script language="javascript"> function giveFocus() { document.visorFreeMind.focus(); } </script></head> <body onLoad="giveFocus();"> <div id="flashcontent" onmouseover="giveFocus();"> Flash plugin or Javascript are turned off. Activate both and reload to view the mindmap </div> <script type="text/javascript"> // <![CDATA[ // for allowing using http://.....?mindmap.mm mode function getMap(map){ var result=map; var loc=document.location+''; if(loc.indexOf(".mm")>0 && loc.indexOf("?")>0){ result=loc.substring(loc.indexOf("?")+1); } return result; } var fo = new FlashObject("visorFreemind.swf", "visorFreeMind", "100%", "100%", 6, "#9999ff"); fo.addParam("quality", "high"); fo.addParam("bgcolor", "#a0a0f0"); fo.addVariable("openUrl", "_blank"); fo.addVariable("startCollapsedToLevel","3"); fo.addVariable("maxNodeWidth","200"); // fo.addVariable("mainNodeShape","elipse"); fo.addVariable("justMap","false"); fo.addVariable("initLoadFile",getMap("blues.mm")); fo.addVariable("defaultToolTipWordWrap",200); fo.addVariable("offsetX","left"); fo.addVariable("offsetY","top"); fo.addVariable("buttonsPos","top"); fo.addVariable("min_alpha_buttons",20); fo.addVariable("max_alpha_buttons",100); fo.addVariable("scaleTooltips","false"); fo.write("flashcontent"); // ]]> </script> </body> </html> Hello, I'm a novice with java script and I can't figure out why my script will work locally, but not live. Here is the link. http://www4.uwm.edu/recsports/ There is supposed to be a rotating slideshow in the header, but it's just a black box. Thanks! Ok, This one has plagued me for some time now. I am parsing an XML file for a search feature. On my local machine, the code below works fine in FF, but when I upload it, I get an error stating y[0] (the root element) is undefined. I think the problem may be with my onload method but I can't be sure. Code: function importXML() { if (document.implementation && document.implementation.createDocument) { xmlDoc = document.implementation.createDocument("", "", null); xmlDoc.onload = createTable; } else if (window.ActiveXObject) { xmlDoc = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLDOM"); xmlDoc.async=false; xmlDoc.onreadystatechange = function () { if (xmlDoc.readyState==4) createTable(); } } else { alert('Your browser can\'t handle this script'); return; } xmlDoc.load("catalog.xml"); } // and now for the part that fails var y = xmlDoc.getElementsByTagName('data'); var dcount = 0; for (t=0;t<y[0].childNodes.length;t++) { //this is the line where FF reports the error if (y[0].childNodes[t].tagName == "record") { dcount++; } } The xml syntax is as follows Code: <data> <record> <item 1>text</item 1> <item 2>text</item 2> <item 3>text</item 3> </record> <record> <item 1>text</item 1> <item 2>text</item 2> <item 3>text</item 3> </record> </data> I just can't figure out why this works locally and not on the server. IE works fine, but then again it uses the activeXObject method so it should function differently. Hi, I am working on the following page: http://www.reutin-international.com/redirect.html There is a news script on the right-handside which rotates news items (a kind of scroller). Locally this works without any problems, but once I've uploaded it to the hosting server this doesn't work. There is no javascript error sign. I have double checked with the hosting and they support javascript by default. If anyone has any ideas it'd be appreciated! Thanks! I'm sure this is older code, but I need help with a GreyBox. The php script, for a video site, that I'm using (I didn't write the script) is suppose to play the video in the box that pops up over the page, when a video thumbnail is selected. However, instead of showing the player inside the box, a file named loader_frame.html downloads (each time). This file is in the greybox folder. Here is the script: Code: <script type="text/javascript">var GB_ROOT_DIR = "/greybox/";</script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/greybox/AJS.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/greybox/AJS_fx.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="/greybox/gb_scripts.js"></script> I'd be glad to provide more info or files. Any help/guidance to remedy this, will be appreciated. Hi I'm wanting to add a sound to an image when it is clicked. Basically when you click a picture of a mouse is squeaks. Hello Everyone! I am looking for help with this script and I was wondering if someone could help me out? I want to play a sound on a mouse click, which there are a ton of scripts out there that do this. Here is my problem I want to be able to let the users shut the sound on and off. This is for a feature to my site that I am building that is just using javascript and html. Here is what I have so far below. I would also like to have a div to show if the sound is on or off. The only thing that I am looking for the javascript to play and stop the sound file. Code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" /> <title>Untitled Document</title> <script type="text/javascript"> var theSound = "on"; function playSound(){ if(document.getElementById("mute").checked == false){ document.getElementById("theSound").style.display = "block"; //isert play sound code here } } function muteSound(){ document.getElementById("theSound").style.display = "none"; //insert stop sound code here } </script> </head> <body> <form name="soundTest"> <input name="sound" type="checkbox" value="on" id="mute" />Mute </form> <p onmouseover="playSound()" onmouseout="muteSound()">Mouseover this to make the "Sound".</p> <!--This is just a div that represents a sound playing.--> <div id="theSound" style="display:none; background:#FF0000; padding:10px; font-size:36px">SOUND!</div> </body> </html> Note: That this script just shows a mute check box. I think I am going to to buttons for start and stop. Thanks for the help in advance and look forward to hearing from you. Chris Ok, I'm working in dreamweaver cs4 I'm trying to make my links have a sound on mouseover. The tag for this is under the depreciated behaviour section. I tried it to test it. It added the following code to my link: Code: To View Full Product Line<br /> <a href="http://herbal-nutrition.net/yesifeelgood/products" target="_blank" onmouseover="MM_controlSound('play','document.test','sounds/Sound 378.mp3')">Click Here</a> <embed name="test" src="sounds/Sound 378.mp3" loop="false" autostart="false" hidden="true" width="0" height="0" enablejavascript="true"></embed> My only problem is that when this loads in a browser on mouseover it loads the window as a quicktime sound then directs to the link preview on the following link (the link where I added the sound is underneath the slideshow: http://www.designfoxmediaworks.com/c...e/carlene.html is there something i should be changing to make this work properly? I have a self project I am exploring. I would like to play a simple sound file each time a function is run. The function runs every second, so, basically, I am just trying to get an audible click sound file to run every time the function runs. I do not know how to play a sound file thru javascript. Any ideas? Here is the code file thus far... Code: <html> <head> <title>Timer</title> <link href="timer.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <embed src="click.wav" autostart=false hidden=true name="sound1" enablejavascript="true"> <script type="text/javascript"> var seconds = 0; var clockId; var running = false; function runClock() { seconds++; document.timer.timerClock.value = seconds; } function startClock() { if (!running) { clockId = setInterval('runClock()',1000); running = true; } } function stopClock() { if (running) { clearInterval(clockId); running = false; } } function resetClock() { document.timer.timerClock.value = 0; seconds = 0; } </script> </head> <body> <form id="timer" name="timer" action=""> <div id="header"> <p> <span>Timer<br /> </p> </div> <div id="intro"> <p>Click to begin timer</p> <p id="buttons"> <input onclick="startClock()" type="button" value="Begin Seconds Counter" /> <br /> <input name="timerClock" id="timerClock" value="0" /> <br /> <input onclick="stopClock()" type="button" value="Stop Timer" /> <br /> <input onclick="resetClock()" type="button" value="Reset Timer" /> </p> </div> </form> </body> </html> Which is the best way to play sound using javascript in a controlled manner ? I need a solution which work across all browsers. This is for my bingo game page which is fully based on ajax. Thanks . I was wondering if there is a javascript code that works in all browsers and will allow when a person clicks on a certain tab I have that it plays a short beep.
