JavaScript - Defining A String That Contains A Link
Similar TutorialsNeed to know how to define hex characters for the following; var x = hex value var y new Array(hex value, hex value, etc) document.write(hex value) Working on a simple JS/jQuery-driven game where the user clicks on a cup to see if it is a winner or not. If so, it plays a happy sound; if not, it plays a sad sound. Everything is working great so far, except for the sound. The html is being set correctly when a cup is selected, but Firebug is telling me the sound files are undefined. Same when I enter the function: playSound("[filename].WAV") in the console. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Code: var cupRaised = false; var winningCup; function determineWinner(raisedCup){ if(raisedCup == winningCup){ playSound("applause.WAV"); } else { playSound("sad-trombone.WAV"); } } function playSound(file){ $('#sound_element').html("<embed src='file/"+file+"' hidden='true' autostart='true' loop='false' />"); } function raiseCup(num){ if(!cupRaised){ var cur = "#cup" + num.toString(); $(cur).animate({"top": "-=100px"}, "slow"); cupRaised = true; determineWinner(num); } } Hi, I'm trying to code a script that will display an approximate postage price based on different combinations of variables, but the numbers I defined for each case aren't reflected in the text box. I'm using a switch statement for all the different combinations of options, which the user will choose by selecting check-boxes. I'd really appreciate if anyone could point out where I'm going wrong. (Additionally, I know that this code probably isn't a very efficient way of doing what I'm doing - I'm open to suggestions on how to improve it.) I've attached all the relevant parts of the code, including how I defined variables originally. Many thanks in advance, Gil Code: <script type="text/javascript"> function count() { var firstclass = document.calc.firstclass.value; var postcard = document.calc.firstclass.value; var numpages = document.calc.numpages.value; var nms = document.calc.nms.value; var large = document.calc.large.value; var numpages = parseInt(document.calc.numpages.value); if (document.calc.grabber.checked) { var vweight = (numpages + 8) * 0.17636981; } else { var vweight = numpages * 0.17636981; } var postageprice = 0; switch(postageprice) { case document.calc.postcard.checked: var postageprice = 28; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && vweight <= 1: var postageprice = 44; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && vweight <= 2: var postageprice = 61; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && vweight <= 3: var postageprice = 78; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && vweight <=3.5: var postageprice = 95; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 1: var postageprice = 88; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 2: var postageprice = 105; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 3: var postageprice = 122; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 4: var postageprice = 139; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && vweight <= 1: var postageprice = 64; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && vweight <= 2: var postageprice = 81; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && vweight <= 3: var postageprice = 98; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && vweight <= 3.5: var postageprice = 105; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 1: var postageprice = 122; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 2: var postageprice = 139; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 3: var postageprice = 156; break; case document.calc.firstclass.checked && document.calc.nms.checked && document.calc.large.checked && vweight <= 4: var postageprice = 173; break; default: var postageprice = 0 } document.calc.pay.value = postageprice } </script> <form name="calc" method="POST"> <input type="text" name="numpages" size="10" value=10 onpropertychange="count()" onkeypress="keypress(event)" onclick="SelectAll()"> <input type=button name=clearnumber value="Clear" onclick="document.calc.numpages.value=0"> <p></p> <input type="checkbox" name="firstclass" size="10" onclick="count()"><p> <input type="checkbox" name="large" size="10" onclick="count()"></p> <p> <input type="checkbox" name="nms" size="10" onclick="count()"></p> <p> <input type="checkbox" name="postcard" size="10" onclick="count()"></p> <p> <input type="checkbox" name="grabber" size="10" onclick="count()"></p> <p>$<input type="text" name="pay" size="10"> $<input type="text" name="perthousand" size="10"> </p> </form> Thanks again. I'm installing a Disqus commenting system on a news site. Javascript attaches a comment thread to the end of a story page, based on the story's url. Our issue is that many stories may have multiple urls, and we want a single comment thread on those stories. A single story may have a url like this: www.newspaper.com/ci_12345678 and this: www.newspaper.com/entertainment/ci_12345678 Disqus provides an alternative var disqus_identifier I'd like to define disqus_identifier to the final 8-digit story ID, read from the url. Here's the way the code looks: Code: <div id="disqus_thread"></div> <script type="text/javascript"> /** * var disqus_identifier; [Optional but recommended: Define a unique identifier (e.g. post id or slug) for this thread] */ (function() { var dsq = document.createElement('script'); dsq.type = 'text/javascript'; dsq.async = true; dsq.src = 'http://newspaper.disqus.com/embed.js'; (document.getElementsByTagName('head')[0] || document.getElementsByTagName('body')[0]).appendChild(dsq); })(); </script> I'm not sure how to define var disqus_identifier. Can anyone help me out? Hey all, I have a simple example below showing how when I pass in the value of the value attribute of option node, and then use if operator to check whether parameter is a string or not, even though it's a string, it converts it to false boolean and triggers the else statement rather than calling a function: Code: <body> <select> <option value="createMsg">Add Message</option> <option value="removeMsg">Remove Message</option> </select> </body> Code: var menu = { handleMenu : function(callback){ if(callback === "string"){ menu[callback](); } else { console.log("Issue occurred") } }, createMsg : function(){ var content = document.createTextNode("Please give additional information."), heading = document.createElement("h1"); heading.appendChild(content); document.body.appendChild(heading); }, removeMsg : function(){ } } document.getElementsByTagName('select')[0].onchange = function(){ menu.handleMenu(this.value)}; callback should be a string so why is it saying otherwise? Thanks for response Hello, let me try to explain better what I'm trying to do. I'm a real newbie I don't know much javascript but I understand more or less the logic behind it... tell me if this solution should work and if you know how to do it please show me. I have this page. http://felixdeportu.com/5/ The images are inside a div#content div#photo. I need to make div#photo's width to match the total width measurement of all the images it contains. If you load the page and you don't touch the size, it will work fine... but that's not realistic. If I resize the page, which will happen often on this kind of page (I'm assuming), the whole thing goes haywire (try it, scroll to the last image and resize the page you'll see what I mean). What can I do? Is my idea the right solution? Am I not explaining this clearly enough? Let me know please, I'm desperate. I've been trying to get CSS to do this for me for 3 hours now. Nothing works... Hi all, I have an <img> place holder in my HTML, and when users 'onclick' different button's, a javascript function is called that makes different images appear within the <img> place holder. ie. the src changes. See below: Code: <body> <img id="image_space" src="" /> <button type="button" onclick="imageChange(/image1.jpg)">Image 1</button> <button type="button" onclick="imageChange(/image2.jpg)">Image 2</button> <script> function imageChange(image){ document.getElementById("image_space").src=image; } </script> </body> Strait forward enough. I also have a third button, which activates a different javascript function to display an image within a different <img> place holder. BUT, I only want this button to work IF "/image2.jpg" is the ACTIVE image within the original <img> place holder (with id="image_space"). How can I write some javascript code that will identify that image as being ACTIVE? The final code with the missing "link" is described below: [CODE] Code: <body> <img id="image_space" src="" /> <img id="image_space2" src="" /> <button type="button" onclick="imageChange(/image1.jpg)">Image 1</button> <button type="button" onclick="imageChange(/image2.jpg)">Image 2</button> <button type="button" onclick="thirdImageChange(/image3.jpg)">Image 3</button> <script> function imageChange(image){ document.getElementById("image_space").src=image; } function thirdImageChange(thirdImage){ if (missing code here that says "/image2.jpg ACTIVE in <img id="image_space">) { document.getElementById("image_space2").src=thirdImage; } } </script> </body> Sorry it's so long winded! I hope I made it clear enough. Your help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks for reading! I'm working on a technical document that has a glossary section. When I use a technical term, I link to its definition in the glossary then provide a return link to return the user to whence they came. But if I use that same term again, and if I want to link it to the glossary, I need to duplicate the glossary entry in order to provide a return link that returns them to the right place. Is there some way I could link them to the glossary and embed a unique return link in the link to the glossary?

Can someone show me the code to get the number "800014352" part from the url???? http://testebiz/ebizbtest/ShoppingCa...2/Default.aspx I was looking at this page, and came across "%" used in strange context. It appears that the mod operator can be used in Strings?? http://download.oracle.com/javase/tu...vaOO/enum.html What does this do/ mean? Thanks!!: System.out.printf("Your weight on %s is %f%n", p, p.surfaceWeight(mass)); I need help with the following code below. It just doesn't turn out okay. Any ideas? Code: function changing() { A = document.exempel.Amount.value B = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_2_qty")%>") C = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_3_qty")%>") D = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_4_qty")%>") E = ("<%#Container.DataItem("Price_5_qty")%>") if (A < B) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_1")%>"} else if (A = B && (!(A >= C))) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_2")%>"} else if (A = C && (!(A >= D))) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_3")%>"} else if (A = D && (!(A >= E))) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_4")%>"} else if (A >= E) {document.exempel.Price.value = "<%#Container.DataItem("Price_5")%>"} } I am trying to use some string functions with no results. It appear what I'm using them on are not strings. my_string = document.getElementById("link5").onclick; document.write(my_string.lastIndexOf("5")); This gets nothing! And document.write(document.getElementById("link5").onclick.lastIndexOf("5")); gets nothing. BUT if I make a string and put what the onclick is set to with: my_string = "function onclick(event) { reveal(\"5\", \"2\", \"1864\")"; then my_string.lastIndexOf("5") will yield 34. So why is my original my_string = not working? And how can I get it to work? I'm trying to determine whether a word exists in the URL and if so, change the CSS of a div. I know how to do each task individually, but combining the two is giving me trouble. So far I have: Code: function checkSent(divname) { if(document.URL.indexOf("sent") >= 0) *document.getElementById(success).style.display = 'block'; } var sentornot = checkSent(); // If the URL contains the word, sent, then change the display of the element "success" to block I can successfully determine whether the string exists in the URL by adding an alert, but the Javascript to change the CSS doesn't work. The CSS for the div element "success" is as follows: Code: #success { display: none; } Any help is appreciated! Thanks! Edit: If needed, this is the code I used to test whether the "check URL" portion works: Code: function checkSent(divname) { if(document.URL.indexOf("sent") >= 0) { alert("found"); document.getElementById("success").style.display = 'block'; //this line doesn't work :( } else{ alert("not found"); } } Hello, I have the following Javascript function: Code: function loadReviews(){ var url='http://search.twitter.com/search.json?callback=?&q=test'; jQuery.getJSON(url, function(json){ jQuery.each(json.results,function(i,review){ jQuery("#divroller_container").append('<div class="reviews" id=item'+i+'>'+review.text+'<br>Reviewed By: '+review.from_user+'</div>'); }); start(30000, 1); }); } I'm trying to use this in a PHP page. I tried to make do an echo ' and then display the Javascript but I'm struggling on how to convert the following line to PHP to that it still works like it should in Javascript: Code: jQuery("#divroller_container").append('<div class="reviews" id=item'+i+'>'+review.text+'<br>Reviewed By: '+review.from_user+'</div>'); I still need the Javascript variables to function the same etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! Hi, I'm working on refining my search function. At the moment it works fine like this: Code: function searchLocations() { var found = false; var input = document.getElementById('autocomplete').value; for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) { if (gmarkers[j].myname.toLowerCase() == input.toLowerCase()) { found = true; gmarkers[j].show(); myclick(j); } } if ( ! found ) alert("No matches found. Please check your spelling or refine your search."); } but you have to get the input exactly the same as it is in the array for it to work (as it should, being that that's the way it's written). I wanted to split it so that for example Black Cat Hotel would pop if the user entered Black OR Cat OR Hotel (or any combination of the above). So I thought that this might work: Code: function searchLocations() { var found = false; var input = document.getElementById('autocomplete').value; for (var j = 0; j < gmarkers.length; j++) { var s = gmarkers[j].myname.toLowerCase().split(" "); if ( s == input.toLowerCase()) { found = true; gmarkers[j].show(); myclick(j); } } if ( ! found ) alert("No matches found. Please check your spelling or refine your search."); } but obviously not. Is there some better way to do this? When comparing an empty string "" to another string like "1232", javascript is returning true. Why is that?
