JavaScript - Is Javascript Being Used To Return To A Page?

i have a html page that has a link "OPEN POP UP" when this link is clicked a new pop up window is opened. and this pop has two LINKS first is ONE and second is TWO.
what i want to do is.
when any of these LINKS is clicked on the popup the should close and the my main html page from where the popup came should execute a javascript function.

My problem is that I want doajaxfileupload.php to return a variable to javascript/change some html form value. The code works as it is for the file upload, I just need to add something for the output, any suggestion?

Edit: I just noticed that some previous part of the code is still the the part that changes the color of the button depending if the file is uploaded or not. Now I want those values to change depending on what file is uploaded.

Ok, guys. I'm new to JavaScript, so go easy. I'll be asking bunches of "dumb" questions for a while.

1st question, and the only one for now ...

Say I have the following function:

I don't care about the return value of the function itself, but I do need the new values of SwapVal1 and SwapVal2. In ASP when I do this, the values get returned. How do I get this to work in JS?

I don't understand the logic of Break, Return False, Return True. It was never really covered in our college class, and I see everyone using it. I got an A in the class, if that 'proves' that I really tried to apply myself.

NOTE: I understand what the function is doing. I just don't understand WHEN to use break, return false or return true if the the translator can determine the conditional statements.

if the the translator can determine the conditional statements, why not write it like this:

Questions:
Why use return true, if the translator knows it's ture? Why use "return false" if the translator knows it's false and the alert window has already gone up? why not use "break" to stop the code? Why use the "return false" at the end "else" statement?

I'm developing am income tax calculator, and everything is going swell. Currently the user can type in their adjusted gross income (AGI), hit submit, and learn the amount of income tax they would pay, their tax rate, and their income after tax.

I've played around with the events to get the submit button to work in FF, IE, Chrome and Safari -- and I've gotten the enter button to work before with some stock code, but here's the catch: when the user presses enter, i want the focus to leave the input box. I don't care where it goes (submit button, I suppose?) but i need it to leave the input field so the onfocus="clearText(this);" event can fire when they return to type in a new income.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I am pretty novice. I do not know much about the compilers or how these things run. I do however have a good eye for trends and can figure just about anything out by looking at it.

I have a game that uses a exe launcher with a built in patcher.

I have found the code for the launcher. There are several "jquery" scripts for basic components like scroll wheel. There are also things like "downloader.js", "inputs.js".

I am interested in seeing what (and more precisely how many) ip addresses are being retrieved. I fear this patcher is using a hidden bittorrent like download system.

The code for "downloader" is pretty basic. It clearly uses some other script, but I am wondering if you can point me in the direction of a utility to monitor running JS so that I can see what is being returned.

I have tried on several occasions to teach myself programing. I can get the commands and syntax fairly easily, and I am pretty good at 'coming up' with ways to get something done. I just don't have experience in this field (I'm in medical school) so I do not know about the tools and utilities programers use and scouring the internet has been less than fruitful.

I am Aditya. I am explaining below the exact scenario where I need the help:

I am developing a web application in which I need to integrate a javascript/html editor on some of the web pages and then provide 'Edit' buttons on those web pages so that users can edit the content on that partciular html/jsp page (like editing in wiki pages) and then, when they add some content and click on submit button, the new content should appear on the web page with all the formatting (i.e. bold, italics, color and so on) which was applied by user when he was entering the text.
Now, I need help for the below issues:
1. Please suggest me a good javascript/html editor (freely downloadable) which I can use to integrate with my web pages.
2. Once the user has entered some content using the above javascript editor, how to make that content reach the server and update the corresponding web page.

I am new to web development, so may be that these questions are too simple.
But, I need some help from you.

The Javascirpt is the Facebook Share button that basically allows users that have Facebook to share the page there currently on in their Facebook status by pressing the button, but if there not logged in it shows the login page, not a problem just continue the script.

Hay guys, here is my problem.
I need to make Javascript code which will enable me to search my page for key words.The particular page consists of nearly 30 scinetific achivements, all sorted by the scinetists that are responisbile for those acihevemnets.You can say that the page consists of 30 paragraphs.What i should do, is make a javasrpit code that searches the page by putting in a key word, finding all the paragraphs with that keyword, and then displaying only those paragraphs, while hiding all the other ones which don't have that key word.Im not really sure if this should happen in a pop up window, on the same page or new page, but the overall format must be the same as it was on the original page with 30 paragraphs( like displeying the same page but with only, for example, 3-4 paragraphs).

I dont expect anyone to write me the whole code, but any hint or advise would be helpfull.Also if anyone knows of any code here on this forum, or somewhere on the web which might help me, I'd apprecite if u would give me the link.
